I avoided going to the dentist for years, so finding Cumberland Dental was truly a game changer for me. From my very first visit, the entire team made me feel so comfortable and completely put my nerves at ease. The staff is absolutely amazing--everyone at the front desk and the assistants are so warm, welcoming, and genuinely kind. They go out of their way to make sure you feel cared for and never judged. Dr. Whipple is incredible. He's extremely knowledgeable, gentle, and takes the time to explain everything in a way that makes you feel confident and informed. You can tell he truly cares about his patients and wants the best outcomes for everyone he treats. I've actually since moved farther away, but I still travel back for my appointments because the care here is just that good. Here is my honest review. It's a little lengthy but worth it, I promise. I'm not usually the one to write reviews but this has to be said. I had an absolutely outstanding experience with Dr. Whipple and his entire team. From the moment I walked in, I felt like I was in great hands. Dr. Whipple is not only incredibly skilled, but he also takes the time to communicate everything clearly and make sure you're comfortable with the treatment plan. His efficiency and attention to detail are truly impressive. I was especially amazed by the same-day crown service--it saved me multiple appointments and the result was perfect. I've also had a root canal done here, and the process was far smoother and more comfortable than I ever expected. It's clear that Dr. Whipple really cares about both the quality of his work and the experience his patients have. The entire staff contributes to making the office such a positive place. Nallely, the dental assistant, is wonderful. She is extremely polite, attentive, and does an amazing job of making you feel comfortable and relaxed during your appointment. Her friendly attitude really helps ease any nerves. Marlene is also fantastic--she is incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to insurance and payment options. She took the time to explain everything clearly and helped me understand my coverage so there were no surprises. I recently moved and was looking for a new Dentist . I wanted to call around and ask questions about services they provide and if they work with my insurance. I called three different times and started to think i was being a pain but the receptionist was so funny and nice, she reassured me that i wasnt being a bother and answered all my questions. She was very courteous and helpful. Some other offices didnt have answers and needed to call me back but she was very knowledgable and had a answer for every single question i had. Cant wait till I make my appointment and get to meet her face to face . Very pleasant to talk to. read more

The only reason I give this dental office one star is because of the front desk staff. I needed additional documentation for the flexible spending account people. I needed one document from them and was treated very poorly. Lot's of attitude. I left a message for Dr. Parilla concerning this matter and he did not return my phone call. As a customer spending hundreds of dollars a year in this office, I don't think faxing one document is too much to ask. I'm now seeing a different dentist. read more

I didn't get to visit the place due to the location im in, but when I did call to get information, Kristen I believe her name was, She was so warm and kind and very helpful answering all my questions. She even went out her way to ask more questions and was very kind and warm when listening or giving feedback. Every one hates going to the dentist, but this young lady sounded and seemed like she wanted the clients to enjoy and be comfortable with their time there. Terrible, liars said I had 9 cavities. Got second opinion at another dentist who said I had one minor cavity.

Do not trust the hygenists. I went for my annual check up and was told I need x-rays. I specifically asked my hygenist if I was due for x-rays from my insurance, she said absolutely, it's time. So I got the x-rays. And then a few weeks later I got the bill from my insurance, and was not due for my x-rays. I was so angry I switched dentists because it made me feel like they were just looking for ways to make money. To top it off, I go to my new dentist and I had a cavity. I asked my new dentist how this could go unnoticed, and she asked me if my former dentist took x-rays, and I said yes, and she said if they took x-rays and knew how to read them there was no way you would have missed the cavity. read more

I have been going to Cumberland Dental since 2000. I have always been treated with respect and more importantly good dental care. I have never had any problems with my insurance covering my services, which included x-rays and cleaning. I love my hygentist Marzena. I have had 2 root canals and a wisdom tooth pulled. Dr. Parilla provided a painless experience and the office always called to see how I was feeling. I realize going to the dentist is not everyone's favorite thing. I just started at this dentist and have head nothing but good results. Everyone is very friendly and the dentist is very good at being on time. Unlike other dentists/doctors, I have rarely had to wait for more than a few minutes to go into my appointment. The dentist fixed issues with one tooth that my other dentists was ignoring. I have had nothing but great results from this dentist. Another bonus is that this dentist will do root canals when others really do not do them anymore. read more

I have been here about 4 times and each time they tacked "new or necessary procedures" on to my treatment. Granted I had a lot to be done so I was prepared to spend the money to have a healthy mouth. Well I missed one appointment, my first ever, and they wanted to charge me $100.00 for not showing!!! I called and wanted to reschedule and they didn't even offer. The front desk said that the Dentist was sitting there twiddling his thumbs for that amount of time. So I said well I have a large amount of work left to be done. It was their choice to forgo the $100 charge and keep my business or let me leave. Dentists are a dime a dozen and they are mediocre at that. This place sucks and I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT! read more

This clinic should make whoever answers their phone take a course on personality development and customer service. She's very rude and seems to hate her job so much. Any organization should know that your front desk receptionist and telephone operator are usually the first impression your company gives to its clients. Been a patient since the 1980's- and always seem to have a difficult time dealing with the office staff. Called to make an emergency appointment, and once again I was dealing with extremely -rude, uncaring, obnoxious- front desk staff! I was told that I haven't been seen since 2000, and my old dentist (Dr. Ferdma) was no longer with them. Since I had a past balance, which was removed years-ago via- (an oversight with their horrible front-desk misfits.) They would not see me. When I explained this was an error 10-years ago, and was removed with proof I still obtained. I was told via the person handling the phones, "I guess were NOT the dentist for you!" and she *hung up on me! WOW! -Same old same old... Nothing has changed over at Cumberland Dental! I called back to report this young lady, and attempted to speak to the office manager, which I was ignored, and tossed into voice-mail! Shame on this dentist(s) to allow such poor uneducated rude, unprofessional, childish employees. If he/she was aware, would he/she approve of this behavior? I wonder? By reading other reviews here on Yelp. It's clear that this team of dentist do not care that their front-staff representing them is extremely poor- and losing patients, old and new. Sad. read more

This is the worst place you can get you dental work done. Let me tell you about my horrible experience here. I had gone for a routine check up and cleaning and polishing - well first they asked me do u have xrays done and i said yes i got them done last year at another dentist and then they asked me did i get digital xrays done and they said i had to get digital xrays done. Well the digital xrays were the most painful thing i have ever got done. the dental hygieniest was so crude - i was literally crying there for 45 mins finally she did something with a pediatric probe and said it was done - then for last 15 mins she just cheked my teeth to see decay was there in which teeth and said i would have to come back later for cleaning . when i went outside they charged me for xrays exam( i must have seent the dentist for 5 mins ) and gross debridement ( which never happened ). Anways they said its covered by my insurance and dont worry . After that for 2 days i had fever and swollen glands and was in so much pain - i later went back in for cleaning my teeth which was tolerable. after few weeks i get a bill, saying my insurance does not cover the xrays and i need to pay for them . I mean they charged me for gross debridement which they never did - they chargee me for substandard xrays that were taken by a digital probe for kids coz i couldnt tolerate the adult probe, and i was in pain for 3 days and now they want money for all this. All i can say is stay away from this place as far as possible. The office staff is rude , the dental hygienist are bad and if you see a dentist face then boy are u lucky. I'm not sure why there are so many negative reviews on here. I've been coming here for 3 years and I've never had a bad experience. The front desk staff has always been pleasant. I don't have any difficulty scheduling appointments, and I've never waited more than a few minutes to be seen. My teeth were in really bad shape when I started coming here. I saw another dentist several times before I came here, but she didn't tell me she was out of network for over a year. By the time I saw another dentist in network, he was shocked at home many cavities I had and said I needed 2 root canals. He didn't perform root canals, so he referred me to Dr. Parilla. By the time I called Dr. Parilla, they didn't have any appointments open for a root canal for a couple weeks. Since my tooth was infected and in pain, they said they could at least get me in within the next few days so that I could get some antibiotics to help with the pain until I could get a root canal. I really appreciated that! I've had several fillings and 2 root canals done by Dr. Parilla, and I have no complaints. He's really nice and thorough, and takes the time to explain things to me. The hygienist, Tony, is also super nice and really friendly. He always chats with me, and it makes time fly by when he's doing my teeth cleaning. The office is also neat and clean. I feel like the prices are fair, too. There have never been any surprises - the front desk staff would explain what my insurance covers and if I need to pay anything out of pocket. read more

My family and I have been going to Cumberland Dental forever and have always been satisfied with our experience, starting with the friendly receptionists, to the wonderful hygienists, and the impeccable work done by Dr. Parilla himself. We have continuously been pleased with their services that even after we moved to the suburbs, we still choose to make the commute out to Norridge for each appointment. Everyone in the office is very friendly and always makes you feel welcomed the moment you walk in. I oftentimes find myself spending extra time there simply chatting with all of them :) The hygienists are all so wonderful as well, I always leave the office with my teeth feeling nice and clean and never have I experienced any pain afterwards. The work Dr. Parilla has done on my teeth is something that I am so grateful for. He is a complete perfectionist and strives to make each smile the best it can be. I have always been very self conscious about my own smile, after I was unsatisfied with the previous work done by another dentist regarding a dental implant. After many appointments, I finally have the smile I always wanted and couldn't be more pleased with the results. My daughter has also been self conscious about her teeth and Dr. Parilla is currently working on improving them. She now has a veneer on one tooth and is waiting on the last step being a new dental implant. Her veneer looks fabulous and matches perfectly to her other teeth. While she is waiting for her implant to be made, Dr. Parilla has a temporary tooth in the spot and even the temporary tooth looks better than her first implant!! I am so excited to see the end result but I know it will be beautiful!!
