This is 1 of only 2 outfitters of outdoors adventures in the BSF recreational area, and I chose…read morethem because the other one was full on Labor Day Weekend. Wow! Was that ever a great move! First of all, these guys (and gals) offered a much better value. Their equipment was clean and nicely maintained. Their brick-and-mortar check-in office was being renovated, so we handled everything by phone - provided you could find a spot at the top of a hill where cell phones could connect! But once we did, we were hosted by April, a terrific gal who is from the area and knew everything about the waterways in the BSFRA. Working with us, she custom-tailored a trip for us that best suited our needs. The point here is - whatever it is that you'd like to do, just ASK! So on a beautiful warm day, we began our 7-mile from a custom put-in spot where April met us and dropped off our yaks. From there we floated down the Big South Fork of the Cumberland River passing through 2 Class I and 2 near-Class II "rapids" (gimme a break, we're in our 60's!) and we never encountered another soul until we got to our take-out point. We had brought with us our cooler with drinks and lunch, and we had ample time to jump in, swim and play, and climb around on huge boulders to boot. At take-out time, April promptly picked us up and drove us back to our car, handling all the gear and equipment so that all we had to do was drive away and revel in our new, best-kept-secret find - Outdoor Addiction Outfitters. April, we WILL return - and for a longer trip next time!

LCDHD reached out to me via email today and they had been requested by the EEC state department I was in contact with, to immediately shut the beach area down and conduct testing. We were heard. This has only been 3 days since I sent my email, after I had such an amazing and loud response. According to the email I received regarding recreational swimming areas from the state department who oversees to our HD: 902 KAR 10:120. Section 7 is the applicable portion to beaches and explains testing for E. coli. If this is indeed an area that has been sectioned off for swimming then plans need to be submitted to Public Safety Branch to start the process of getting an establishment number and routinely inspected. Why haven't we been testing this area? It was never filed. Oh and there are still people swimming all around it, but our focus was on the beach, I guess water stays in one area. Also our county told the Commonwealth Joirnal that due to stagnant water causing an overgrowth of bacteria that they were closing it. I'm not sure how I feel about that?

The process of getting the boats went smoothly and the loading and unloading was decent when it wasn't crowded. Our biggest complaint was the condition of the boats that they are renting. The boats themselves are nice but they do not seem to be taken care of very well. I've attached pictures of the molded seats and the poor duct tape jobs to cover the gashes in the seats. Paying such a high price point for 2 days, we were expecting a cleaner boat. Would have also been nice to have an anchor included with the boat.

My party of 4 paid $20 each for an hour, which would be fine if we each had our own target, but my party had 2 for the four of us, so we got maybe 30 minutes of play each. It's 12 something for half an hour, so the full hour is definitely a better deal. We found the staff very friendly and knowledgeable. The cashier and bartender, Samantha, was great, as was our guide. Didn't catch her name, but she was so nice and hilarious. You can get a bucket of 5 drinks for $20, or about $4 a beer/drink, so if you want to drink and have fun, you'd definitely enjoy this. Overall, I'll probably go back. They also have Cornhole!
