Good luck finding a halfway level spot. We were lucky and it wasn't busy so we got a nice wide spot near the bathrooms and showers and laundry. In the main area. ( full hookup by office) there is no sewer connections and no cable. Could only get 3 off channels. We are here "off season" and the restaurant doesn't open until May 2. It's quite a walk down the pier to the store and restaurant. There are cabins on other side of marina from Rv sites. Plenty of ramps to put boat in water. There is not a lot of signage where to go so got to ask many questions instead of someone explaining things to you. Prices are cheap right now. Average of $29 per night.

When we pulled in, it was about to storm and almost dark. We were greeted at the store which was apparently closed. The gentleman explained that he would just come by in the morning to collect the due. He also said that there isn't any pre-booking available, everything is walk up only. Right now the rate in the first RV area is $24 per night. The rate increases for the season on 5/20/17. The second area RV section doesn't include sewer hook ups and is $4 cheaper. The second area is where the playground and dock access that leads to the marina is and seemed to currently be more popular than the first area. The views from both sections overlook the marina and beautifully picturesque. They have several large, pull through sites. We stayed in site L which was the closest one to the lake. None of the sites have lake access, but the marina is within a few minutes walk. A very important and possible deal breaker for anyone concerned about the drive there is that it is a narrow road and if you're heading in late when the boats are headed home, they take up most of the road and you practically have to pull off to allow them to pass.

Some water, no electricity (used to and now it's been removed), and pretty dinghy bathrooms/showers. Can't comment on the RV parks. I believe they have a pool which is new! If I weren't planning to go boating or on the water somehow, I'm not entirely sure that Lake Cumberland is where I'd choose first.

There is a restaurant on site at the state park lodge, but it's not really walkable, especially when it's raining. Just throwing that out there. There is also a restaurant at the State Dock Marina, but that certainly isn't walkable or recommendable. So, I definitely recommend that you have plenty of groceries if you plan to camp here. Although it's fairly close to the water, I didn't notice water-front views from any of the sites. Certainly better views at other Lake Cumberland campgrounds. There are several loop options and we drove around to scope out possible walking routes. Nope. Not good road conditions. At one point one person said to us "be careful, it's rough down here". Yeah, we were in a 4 wheel drive truck. It was even way too steep and muddy for a truck. The site that we booked was way too narrow and impossible to back into due to the trees that were too close to the site. Luckily, two ladies on a golf cart stopped by as we were attempting to back in and they explained that there was another, more accessible site available. It must've been our lucky weekend because when we booked that was the last site available on Reserve America. So either someone canceled, or they block off sites only available via walk up. The wooden decks were nice and rare features for a state park.

The sites are level even though they are on a hill. The Corp of Engineers have done an amazing job of making the sites nice sized and level. The sites are gravel so tent camping may need to have an air mattress. The only downside to this campground is that the sites are angled so that you will have to back up the incline to back into your site. We camped in site 5, which wasn't too bad to get into. We have a 32' trailer and it was snug due to trees being across from the site, which made backing into the site difficult. With that being said, there are plenty of sites that are a lot easier and better for trailers 32' and bigger. The most enjoyable part of our stay was the camp host, Don Cummins, who was extremely friendly and helpful. Always there to assist if needed and you couldn't have asked for a more welcoming host. Water was beautiful and the sites were shady and large for Kentucky campgrounds. When we were there, there were only half the sites, out of 30 total, that had campers. Everything in the campground was clean and well taken care of. We plan to return when we can stay a week or more. I recommend this to anyone who is wanting a relaxing time near the Lake Cumberland water.
