We visited Cumberland Campground Fathers Day weekend June 13 - 15, 2014. The campground is…read moresurrounded by lake Cumberland and is a small quiet campground. The sites are level even though they are on a hill. The Corp of Engineers have done an amazing job of making the sites nice sized and level. The sites are gravel so tent camping may need to have an air mattress. The only downside to this campground is that the sites are angled so that you will have to back up the incline to back into your site. We camped in site 5, which wasn't too bad to get into. We have a 32' trailer and it was snug due to trees being across from the site, which made backing into the site difficult. With that being said, there are plenty of sites that are a lot easier and better for trailers 32' and bigger. The most enjoyable part of our stay was the camp host, Don Cummins, who was extremely friendly and helpful. Always there to assist if needed and you couldn't have asked for a more welcoming host. Water was beautiful and the sites were shady and large for Kentucky campgrounds. When we were there, there were only half the sites, out of 30 total, that had campers. Everything in the campground was clean and well taken care of. We plan to return when we can stay a week or more. I recommend this to anyone who is wanting a relaxing time near the Lake Cumberland water.

When we arrived to the…read morepark no one was around to receive us, maybe because it just stopped raining... but not a single soul around, we got there driving aprox. 6 minutes from the Somerset city limits. Amazing park, pretty big and with tons of running trails. Perfect for bikes and walking, golf course seems pretty good also. Have this small office with a park ranger there where I suppose that there´s some one to give you information. Free entrance and the road is really easy to drive, no difficult to get there. I can´t tell if you can camp there, because like I said, there was no one around to ask. Anyways, was lovely to see that there are this kind of parks and really there are a lot of parks around here in KY! Safe travels!!

From purchasing our ice and loading it onto the boat to setting us up with a lily pad for floating, they took care of everything.The boat was equipped with a grill, cooler, and trash can--thoughtful amenities that made our all-day lake adventure even more enjoyable. The baked potato was ordered with extra butter but definitely did not have it. When we got there, I honestly couldn't tell the difference from the "new" ones and the old ones. And then they tell us that the difference is the seating arrangement and there is 7 years between the sets of pontoons. They all were in need of attention. Rocks and dirt in the floors and mildew on the seats/cushions and a lot of cobwebs and spiders. Anyways, not a big deal but it was misleading... especially since that was the final deciding factor for choosing this place over another. They did let us change our reservation to the "older" boat, saving us $30. They also have double decker pontoons that have a slide. Initially we didn't know that tent sites were available. We planned on staying at KOA but when we went to KOA and inquired about a lakefront site, it was the clerk at KOA who told us that the marina/resort had lake resort sites. $25 per night was the rate and I would rate the camping spot a 5. You walk a bit down steps, the sites have pebbles covered pads and a fire pit, overlooking the lake. The bathroom/wash house... not so much of a 5 star rating. I've not stayed at too many campgrounds in my life but what's up with the bathrooms?!!! They all look like something from a horror movie, abandon and disgusting. The last time that we were at the lake we stayed at a B&B and this time I wanted more of an outdoor adventure. Honestly, I would've looked into the room rates here but the pictures that are posted on here suck, it looks too outdated for my liking. I'd rather stay in my tent. Let's not forget about the food! I'm still left thinking about the all you can eat Friday Fish Fry. Everything was cooked perfectly... many kudos to the cooks. They also serve breakfast. My husband opted for the all you can eat breakfast and said the bacon was the best he's ever had, so if you're a bacon fan, don't miss it. I opted for a sausage biscuit and a order of the hash brown casserole... both were excellent. Overall, I would've probably rated this place 3 stars but the awesome staff bumps it up to a 4 star rating. Two last observations... the patrons all seemed older than most marinas, I don't know why that is but hopefully a younger generation will catch on. It's a dry county so byob.

I found this place months ago and my initial plans in February fell through, so on July 3rd as I planned a work related adventure in the area, I remembered this place. I called pretty much at the last minute and was welcomed by Michelle. She isn't actually onsite but met us a few miles away (not because we were lost or anything). I will admit, I'm extremely picky when it comes to hotels and resorts, so I was worried and didn't want to commit before checking it out. Michelle was extremely gracious and showed us around the entire house. It passed the test and I chose the "Lakeside" room. The room had it's own bathroom, and was immaculate. It was the only room in the inn with a private patio. When we first arrived it was loud because it overlooks the lake and it was a busy weekend. The view... why do we travel out of state when we have so much beauty within Kentucky?! The bad news: it's on the market for sale... If you have $775,000 and decide to buy this place, hit me up because I'd love to stay here again. The owner, Mr. Noble was a bit unwelcoming at first, as Michelle was showing us around. I guess that's what he pays her for anyway. As he sat in the living room, watching The History Channel on the community tv, my talkative husband got him to open up and he explained that this was Mrs. Noble's dream and she passed away five years ago. They built the 8,000 square ft home ten years ago. Breakfast was prepared by Michelle and we ate in a community setting, there was only one other couple and Mr. Noble. I don't mind the shared seating because I cruise a lot and that's the norm on a cruise. But if you don't like that, a B&B probably isn't for you. I don't think that I would've enjoyed it as much if the house were full to capacity. Check out was at 11:00 and they were expecting a full house in the 4th. The price was a bit steep, over double the rate that I was quoted in February. I think that if they were to lower the rate on non holidays and weekdays, I bet they would get more visitors. All in all, it's a great getaway with an awesome view.

My family and I stayed at Golden Pond Resort for two nights. The good parts? The hot tub was nice,…read morethe house was clean, there were plenty of amenities as far as entertainment goes. However there were a few problems, First off, this isn't a regular resort, it's more like a AirBnB in a community. There are people who actually live at the houses on this street and when my family went to check out the "private deck" on the back of our "cottage", a woman from next door questioned them on why they were there and if they could read the private sign because it's private property. Next, the beds are insanely uncomfortable including the pull out couch (which i understand is hard to fix) i've never had a worse two nights of sleep in my life. The pictures make it look like you're right next to the pool however you have to walk down the street in this neighborhood and then down a very steep hill to get there, then the people who live in this neighborhood will question why you're using the pool and where you're staying. I don't mind neighbors on vacation but this is more like an AirBNB with shared space than a private resort which is how it's advertised. Finally and most importantly (in my opinion) , the owner of the "resort" is insanely rude. We called questioning where our "cottage" was because it was not clear that it was connected to the office , and were met with an attitude and a condescending tone. Based on other reviews, I can tell this isn't a lone incident and the owner is truly that rude to possibly every guest he books. Overall, we had a good time but may not return due to these issues.

This airport is pretty nice. From what I understand it used to have one commercial flight a day. It…read morehas a very nice terminal which was spotless. The staff was very friendly. They also have a small cafeteria area with vending machines and tables to sit and eat. There is also plenty of parking. It was not busy at all when I was there. I am told there are flight lessons out of this airport and it is used for general aviation. It is close to Lake Cumberland which is a great vacation/tourist location. Maybe the area will build up a little more and commercial flights will return in the future. You never know.
