Cunningham's on the Lake We're visiting family friends who love this place, so we were excited to try it. Visually, it's a great spot--beautiful inside and out, an amazing patio, lots of TVs, and an impressive bar with 48 beers on tap plus beer flights. Unfortunately, during our visit, both the food and service fell short. We started with the pork belly bites. They were okay, but the texture wasn't what we're used to--we typically prefer them cooked a bit more. We also ordered the crab cakes, which came as three large pieces on a bed of lettuce (basically a big house salad). After a few bites, we realized they were ice cold. We let the bartender know and they were sent back, but they came out ice cold again. To their credit, they removed the item from our bill, which we appreciated. We then ordered a burger. The patty was very thick and had potential, but the fries were ice cold. Service slowed at this point--it took a long time to get ketchup or any follow-up. We noticed staff eating in a booth behind us while two employees behind the bar appeared busy, which was disappointing. The beer selection is excellent, but my Dirty Shirley tasted off. I switched to a Tito's and Sprite, but it still didn't taste right--likely flat soda that hadn't been changed. Overall, the patio and beer selection are highlights, but the execution on food and service missed the mark on this visit. Based on this experience, I'd give it 2 stars. Food was good, but service was not. Ate at the bar, bartender spent more of her time socializing with her coworkers than checking in with us. Ordered two old fashions and neither of them were made properly with not enough drink (~1/3 glass filled) and with ice to the brim not even allowing the garnish to touch the drink. Came here for a late lunch while visiting Kearney. Location was gorgeous and interior had such a good feel to it. Service was friendly! I got the steak quesadilla which was okay. Whenever I am in Kearney I have to wat at Cunningham's on the Lake. It has a cute vibe...not too fancy but very nice. I feel like it caters to everyone. There is something for everyone here. My fav is the steak medallions with the grilled veggies. Right off the interstate, it is a very convenient place to stop for a quick and really good meal. 100% recommend whether you are a local, traveler, or here for work. read more

Everything was fantastic! We slid right in towards the back with a great view of the lake while still sitting inside! We tried the cheese curds, steak bites, and pork belly, all were great, my favorite was the pork belly! I had the blue cheese burger, I loved that the blue cheese was real crumbles and not the sauce, but the burger itself wasn't great, kinda burnt, dry, and not seasoned. They do take reservations, which I always recommend but the restaurant is HUGE! There was so many servers and they were all helping each other out, we never went without! A late night snack for two before turning in at our hotel was what we came in for on a Monday night - an hour before closing. We shared a Dijon Chicken sandwich plate which came with battered/seasoned french fries. I also ordered a House Caesar side salad. The Dijon chicken was a little dry, no juiciness left but I liked the charring on it. It could have used a little heavier application of the dijon sauce or the addition of some mayonnaise on the bun. The Caesar salad had the usual ingredients except they added white onion slivers. Didn't think that worked well with the rest of the salad ingredients. The Root Beer and the IPA I ordered (Kinkaider Death from Above) were fine and we drank our glasses dry. The higher marks are due to our server Riley S who despite the end-of-shift hour was attentive, friendly and helpful with his responses to our questions. read more

Went with a couple of people on a beautiful day, so we sat outside. If the weather permits, the outdoor area is gorgeous, with a great view of the lake. We ordered burger, and they are big and delicious! Mine was stuffed with Jack Daniels cheese, and it was great! The fries were also excellent. Our server did a great job as well. The servers are well trained l, attentive and make good suggestions when asked. We ordered the combination skewers and a garden salad. Highly recommend the jalapeño bacon chicken which is chunks of chicken wrapped in fresh jalapeño and bacon and grilled. So flavorful and not too spicy. The filet skewer is also delicious, but they serve it medium rare which was too rare for my taste but they were very tender. They also have good locally brewed beers. Special shout out for the Nectar Fairy from La Vista Brewing- a tasty hazy IPA. If the weather is nice, they have a great patio overlooking the lake and if it's chilly they have fire tables! Came here with our family as a group of 8. We came in the evening and there was a quick wait of 10 minutes. Service was great and food was served quickly. Food was fantastic! We shared steak bites and the dipping sauce complimented the bites well. We devoured all our dishes. The bacon burger is thick, juicy, and the bun was fresh. The fries were seasoned to perfection. We always eat at Cunningham's when traveling through Kearney. The food is always top-notch, the outdoor patio is beautiful (and pet friendly) and the service is always above and beyond. I loved the firecracker salmon with mango sauce, and my husband says the chicken quesadilla is the best he's ever had. The prices are reasonable given the quality of the food. When we first arrived they weren't offering patio seating, but they were quick to accommodate us. Our waiter, Mikkel, was friendly and attentive to every need. He even brought water for our dogs. Time for my yearly review of Cunninghams! We stopped on our way to Ogallala and it was good. I ordered a flight, all delicious craft brews, and the firecracker salmon salad. It was good! Decided to take a large group here based on past good reviews, very trendy upscale bar, beautiful outside seating on the lake. Place was super busy, found all the staff very friendly and efficient. Have a huge drink menu, I believe they have 48 different beers on tap. We ordered bacon wrap shrimp skewers, shrimp tacos and a strawberry chicken salad. Food came out fast and was all cooked well, nothing missing on the order even though they were very busy. Everything tasted great, fresh and seasoned well, I though the portions where a little small for the price. Great spot to hang out with friends eat some good food and enjoy a few drinks. We come here religiously twice a year as part of our road trip. It's always been amazing. I'm not sure if they changed ownership, or were just having a bad week, but both times we came this summer it was embarrassingly bad. I chalk this up to the fact that they only have teenagers working there- not a single adult- the kids seem clueless. Not sure if there's a boss or manager that's over the age of 20 there because they seem very confused. The first time we came this year, we had a reservation and when the "hostess" brought us to the table, there was a couple already sitting there. The hostess told us this was our table and just left.... We stared at the other couple -and they stared at us- for a few minutes and then walked back to the hostess stand to let her know we didn't have a table and asked what happened. Was really bizarre to just have a hostess leave you standing in the middle of a restaurant. The second time we came this year was absolutely awful. We both ordered a glass of sparking wine and we were told they had "run out". We asked to order a glass of wine and we were told by our server they didn't do wines by the glass??? I asked for clarification and she said she didn't know what wines they had and asked me to select one for her on her order tablet- but there was no price nor what type of wine it was. I told her that I couldn't order when I didn't know what wines they were and how much they cost. She then told me it was cheaper if I ordered a bottle; which I told her I didn't want to do- I literally just wanted a glass of wine- didn't even have to be good wine. When they brought our water it actually wasn't water- it tasted like cleaning solution- either sanitizer or bleach- it burned my mouth. When we notified her something was wrong with the water, our server just looked at us blankly and didn't offer to bring anything else. We finally decided to just leave after sitting there for 15 minutes and our server notified us that she talked to her manager and they were going to comp us (the only thing we got around to ordering was a kids meal). I've worked retail my whole life- a proper response would have been for the manager to come to the table, ask what was going on and offer a solution- which would have been just another glass of water that was drinkable/not bleach and a list of wines they offered by the glass. We're bummed because we used to love coming here and based on our experience this week, we will not be coming back. read more

The staff was so courteous and friendly. And the food was filling and flavorful. The PORK BELLY BITES are the most savory, tangy, and sweet combo I've ever tasted. They're a must. I ordered the nachos (not GF friendly btw) and my partner order the Wings. Second time around we ordered the salmon tacos and shrimp tacos. An excellent way to get a waterfront experience in the middle of America. The patio is spacious and dog-friendly. The food is classic American fare. Get the pork belly bites. You won't regret it. They are thick chunks coated in a delicious maple glaze. Huge tap list consisting of dozens of local brews and even more national ones. I ordered the firecracker salmon salad and it hit the spot. Crisp salad greens, generous portion of salmon, and OMG the mango salsa. If you're into nice bathroom experiences, the ones here are all gender-neutral individual rooms with a cute rustic industrial vibe. The restaurant is part of a larger commercial area with a vast parking lot. Perfect for easy ingress and egress of our large RV. read more

Well as soon as we arrived and walked inside we were greeted by atleast 9 servers at the front hostess station. We get seated and it took a bit for us to get drinks and when they did come had to doctor them up ourselves. Not to mention throughout the evening we had a total of 7 different servers including our hostess come to our table and that wasn't because they were doing their do diligence. The roughlett peppers were both "grilled" and soggy at the same time..they came with no plates as did the pizza...but they spared no fuss serving it to us on cardboard. NONE of our 7 servers or the hostess engaged with us at all...the service was absolutely the most disappointing part. Stayed at Comfort Inn and they suggested this place. Wife ordered Filet Medallions ($36.) and I had the Ribeye ($34.) Both included salad and side. We got our food, but waitress forgot to bring out salad. When we asked her about not getting our salads before the entrée, she just said "Oops, I'll box them up and you can take them back to your room". We declined and started eating. My wife's $36. medallions were so tough she couldn't eat them, so I shared my Ribeye, which was fantastic. Asked to see Mgr. and she said the salads were complimentary so she couldn't do anything about it, and said the Filet medallions were the most expensive thing on the menu so they shouldn't have been tough.‍ Not once did Mgr. offer to replace the medallions After a brief disagreement, she reluctantly took $10. off the bill. A lovely place to spend an evening, the outdoor patio looks across a small man-made pond (not a lake) and at Interstate 80 with life flying by. This is a short review, not because of anything wrong, just my rear-view mirror of a memory is short on details. The place gets busy on most nights, so plan ahead or arrive early (or late). a huge bar in the middle offers some respite for walk-ins while tables fill quickly.
