We come here religiously twice a year as part of our road trip. It's always been amazing. I'm not sure if they changed ownership, or were just having a bad week, but both times we came this summer it was embarrassingly bad. I chalk this up to the fact that they only have teenagers working there- not a single adult- the kids seem clueless. Not sure if there's a boss or manager that's over the age of 20 there because they seem very confused. The first time we came this year, we had a reservation and when the "hostess" brought us to the table, there was a couple already sitting there. The hostess told us this was our table and just left.... We stared at the other couple -and they stared at us- for a few minutes and then walked back to the hostess stand to let her know we didn't have a table and asked what happened. Was really bizarre to just have a hostess leave you standing in the middle of a restaurant. The second time we came this year was absolutely awful. We both ordered a glass of sparking wine and we were told they had "run out". We asked to order a glass of wine and we were told by our server they didn't do wines by the glass??? I asked for clarification and she said she didn't know what wines they had and asked me to select one for her on her order tablet- but there was no price nor what type of wine it was. I told her that I couldn't order when I didn't know what wines they were and how much they cost. She then told me it was cheaper if I ordered a bottle; which I told her I didn't want to do- I literally just wanted a glass of wine- didn't even have to be good wine. When they brought our water it actually wasn't water- it tasted like cleaning solution- either sanitizer or bleach- it burned my mouth. When we notified her something was wrong with the water, our server just looked at us blankly and didn't offer to bring anything else. We finally decided to just leave after sitting there for 15 minutes and our server notified us that she talked to her manager and they were going to comp us (the only thing we got around to ordering was a kids meal). I've worked retail my whole life- a proper response would have been for the manager to come to the table, ask what was going on and offer a solution- which would have been just another glass of water that was drinkable/not bleach and a list of wines they offered by the glass. We're bummed because we used to love coming here and based on our experience this week, we will not be coming back. read more

We went twice in three days! A fun environment to post up at the bar and enjoy the game, drink and have some apps or dine on a real Feast. I have no complaints. The staff was so courteous and friendly. And the food was filling and flavorful. The PORK BELLY BITES are the most savory, tangy, and sweet combo I've ever tasted. They're a must. I ordered the nachos (not GF friendly btw) and my partner order the Wings. Second time around we ordered the salmon tacos and shrimp tacos. Stopped here for lunch on a cross-country RV trip and this place is great! Awesome taproom vibe with a large patio overlooking a manmade water reservoir. An excellent way to get a waterfront experience in the middle of America. The patio is spacious and dog-friendly. The food is classic American fare. Get the pork belly bites. You won't regret it. They are thick chunks coated in a delicious maple glaze. Huge tap list consisting of dozens of local brews and even more national ones. I ordered the firecracker salmon salad and it hit the spot. Crisp salad greens, generous portion of salmon, and OMG the mango salsa. If you're into nice bathroom experiences, the ones here are all gender-neutral individual rooms with a cute rustic industrial vibe. The restaurant is part of a larger commercial area with a vast parking lot. Perfect for easy ingress and egress of our large RV. read more

Second time in Kearney and second time visiting Cunningham's on the Lake. A lovely place to spend an evening, the outdoor patio looks across a small man-made pond (not a lake) and at Interstate 80 with life flying by. This is a short review, not because of anything wrong, just my rear-view mirror of a memory is short on details. The place gets busy on most nights, so plan ahead or arrive early (or late). a huge bar in the middle offers some respite for walk-ins while tables fill quickly. This is the smallest salad for $5 I have ever seen. And take out order with no silverware. Ruben meat was thin and so over cooked on the outsides I could hardly break/snap it off. Well as soon as we arrived and walked inside we were greeted by atleast 9 servers at the front hostess station. We get seated and it took a bit for us to get drinks and when they did come had to doctor them up ourselves. Not to mention throughout the evening we had a total of 7 different servers including our hostess come to our table and that wasn't because they were doing their do diligence. The roughlett peppers were both "grilled" and soggy at the same time..they came with no plates as did the pizza...but they spared no fuss serving it to us on cardboard. NONE of our 7 servers or the hostess engaged with us at all...the service was absolutely the most disappointing part. In conclusion would NOT recommend wasting your time or money on this place...heed the warning and just go another 30 min down the road to the Speakeasy...you won't be disappointed. read more

Stayed at Comfort Inn and they suggested this place. Wife ordered Filet Medallions ($36.) and I had the Ribeye ($34.) Both included salad and side. We got our food, but waitress forgot to bring out salad. When we asked her about not getting our salads before the entrée, she just said "Oops, I'll box them up and you can take them back to your room". We declined and started eating. My wife's $36. medallions were so tough she couldn't eat them, so I shared my Ribeye, which was fantastic. Asked to see Mgr. and she said the salads were complimentary so she couldn't do anything about it, and said the Filet medallions were the most expensive thing on the menu so they shouldn't have been tough.‍ Not once did Mgr. offer to replace the medallions After a brief disagreement, she reluctantly took $10. off the bill. Cunningham's is our favorite restaurant in Kearney. It's a large facility with tons of seating and great urban rustic decor. There is a great bar area with plenty of space. There is usually a wait to be seated because it's very popular, for good reason. (Ask about waiting on the beautiful outdoor patio in back by the lake. We had about a 15 min wait and a server came by and took our order for drinks, which was delightful.) The food is always very good. The nachos are THE BEST I've ever had. The homemade light and crispy chips are unlike anywhere else. I would go there just for these. Last visit I had the drunken chicken sandwich and my husband had the Journal burger. Both were excellent and cooked and seasoned perfectly. The fries and onion rings are delicious also. Definitely worth visiting! read more

Reservations are not easy, hostesses are not pleasant to deal with either. They make it difficult and are not at all pleasant about it. We almost went elsewhere. Good variety and serving size of menu items, but food is just ok. Asked for chives for my baked potato and was presented with scallions. So staff are generally no better than the hostesses. The beer I wanted was "on deck" (so why even list it on the menu?) Beer list refers you to Untappd app, and it doesn't work well or quickly. "On deck" means they aren't serving yet (again, what's the point of this?) Big feed, variety, and obvious accommodation for large groups. Be prepared for something other than a cheerful seating or server experience. Would not go back on a bet. read more

Visited Cunningham's last night with my family. The hostess did not seem to be energetic (perhaps, she had a long day), took us to a table after we waited for five minutes. Restaurant was somewhat busy. We waited for ten minutes then placed our order. Interior is nice, has a large bar area, and a nice outdoor sitting. I ordered quesadilla which was really good but the portion was small. I tried to order more food but it was difficult to find our server. My wife said that her food was ok. The most disappointing part was that the beer I had was warm. Beer menu was enticing as they serve a lot of locally made beer. Two people that arrived after me received their food before mine. When I preceded to ask about my order, they said "oh they gave your food to another table". Did they bother to tell me this when it actually happened? Or offer any sort of compensation for this error? Never did I get asked if I wanted additional help or a drink refill or anything. Then I waited a full 15 min after finishing my drink (mind you my meal had been finished long before this) tapping my credit card on the bar in hopes of getting my check. When the bartender came to check on the person next to me for the 3rd or 4th time, that person actually had to say to the bartender "I think that lady wants her check".
