Decided to give it a try because I LOVE cupcakes. The person working recommended the red velvet one so I decided to give it a try. Wasn't really crazy about it, certainly wasn't the best one I ever had, but the frosting was so heavily loaded that the cupcake ended up falling apart and it turned into a pretty big mess. The part that bothered me the most was that the worker kept touching the tip jar. I understand that it's probably a good technique for getting a tip bc we acknowledge the jar, but at the same time I felt obligated to give a tip and it made me feel pretty uncomfortable. I went to cupcake carnivale at night market for their special coffee toffee crunch flavor. Unfortunately, there was a lot left to be desired. I felt like they gave me the wrong cupcake. There was little coffee flavoring to it and barely any toffee (besides a sprinkle of Heath bar on top). Maybe if they had an espresso buttercream with a toffee drizzle or chunk of Heath bar, it would be more like the advertised flavor. The cake itself was moist and rich. The icing was also a smooth texture. I am definitely willing to give them a second chance since you can tell the cake was of good quality. It was a newer flavor so maybe they are working out the kinks? read more

Yummm. Really good product. However, I was somewhat turned off by Jeffrey's response to Harriett T. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, especially in today's world of social media. I think he should have 'bitten his tongue' and just acknowledge and thank her for her input. Maybe selling one cupcake at a higher price might help further spread the word of how his cupcakes are so wonderful. read more

Absolutely terrible. Never written a review on here, but figured I had to. Staff was extremely rude. The guy who owns the place has a real problem with people. I thought it was funny that the restaurant descriptions says "wears gloves." No one had gloves on. And the cupcakes. One was basically raw inside. One was dry and overcooked. The icing had no flavor other than sugar, and the candy on my one was rock hard. I can't say anything good about this place. I would not recommend. read more

I was really excited for this store to open. It took me three tries to even order a cupcake. The first time they were unexpectedly closed even though sign said they should be open. The second time they posted their house as 12-8 and I went there at 12:30 and was rudely shunned away by the owner and that they opened at 1. I asked if I could put a preorder in and the baker was extremely rude and turned his back on me. Even with all this I went back the next day. I waited in a long line, and when I got in the selection was very limited. I couldn't decide how many cupcakes I wanted and once again the man who I believe is the owner huffed and puffed and told me to hurry up (do you believe that). As I was thinking I could see into the kitchen area and there bar of butter and milk just sitting out unrefrigerated on what looked like a dirty Home Depot bucket. I ended up getting 4 cupcakes for a ridiculous price or $15. A woman ended up finishing my order and ripped the box they came in. Went home and tried a cupcake, they were actually decent (which is why it's 2 stars instead of 1) but no where near what the price tag deserved. I would recommend just going to Shoprite. Still good and a quarter of the price. I would have been willing to give them another try as I know they were quite busy but the absolute lack of professionalism and customer service was just too much. I want to support new businesses in these trying times, but this one just isn't worth it. read more

I'm going through some serious Cupcake Carny withdraw now that The Oval is done programing for the summer. If I had to pick a favorite it would definitely be the toffee coffee crunch and the cotton candy but the variety of flavors Cupcake Carny offers are all amazing. It's hard to just choose one. I would go the special route and get a 4 pack or a 6 pack. It's totally worth it. I can't wait to try some of the fall flavors! Thanks for adding flavor to my summer at The Oval. read more

A French Toast cupcake with maple frosting topped with Bacon. Soo Good! Also anything with Chocolate he makes is delicious. I encountered Cupcake Carnivale at Night Market on South St. I was excited to see they had a Toffee Coffee Crunch cupcake. Unfortunately, the cupcake didn't demonstrate either of these flavors. While the quality of the cupcake was good, I felt like I was just eating a light chocolate cake with thick chocolate icing. The cupcake had a dusting of Heath bar in it, but the texture and consistency got lost in the rest of the cupcake. I am willing to give this truck a second chance, but I was disappointed with the flavor I chose that night. read more

Yuck. Since when did "buttercream" become a generic term for any kind of frosting? Because the "buttercream" on the cupcake I just bought at Cupcake Carnivale clearly had never seen butter--instead, it was the same supersweet (but otherwise flavorless), crusty icing you'd expect on a cake purchased at Superfresh. Well, I have been craving a cupcake for the past couple of days. Out on a lunch trip with my coworkers headed to the Dining Out For Life Food Truck Round up, I was super excited to see a cupcake truck there. I waited in line (which moved rather quickly) and when it was my turn to order, I asked for the Red Velvet (one of my favorite flavors) and three mini cupcakes (vanilla, chocolate, and red velvet). Now I am back at my desk and can comfortably enjoy my cupcake. So I grabbed a fork and started to dig in only to be UBER disappointed. It is very DRY! It's not moist at all. I have personally baked homemade cupcakes better than this one. The frosting lacks flavor but at least it wasn't overly sweet, but maybe if it was it would take my mind away from the paste like consistency. I am hoping that it's only the red velvet cupcake that taste like this and keeping my fingers crossed that the mini cupcakes taste better. I am not happy to give a review like this to a business that is doing something good for a worthy cause but if I am going to spend $4 on a cupcake I do expect better. read more

There are cupcakes, and then there are Cupcake Carnivale cupcakes. It's clear at first bite that they are fresh and made from scratch. The menu seems to change on a fairly regular basis, which means that on occasion a favorite may not be available. Furthermore, it's a good thing the multi-packs are discounted because good luck picking just one to have, let alone being satisfied after just one. I've gone back for a second on multiple occasions and trust me, buying a pack is much easier. You can even freeze it and finish it later if need be, but definitely give it time to warm back up before eating. Right now, my favorite is the Black Forrest, which I could easily eat a twelve pack of alone they're that good. But, as the menu changes, that may change. The Red Velvet makes for a good second choice (pro tip: rip part of the bottom off, put it on top of the frosting, and press lightly. Instant whoopie pie.) read more

My friend introduced me to this cupcake truck this summer and was I happy she did. After the first initial taste I have been back to this truck at other food festival locations throughout the city. Every time that I have ordered a cupcake they have been very moist and flavorful. The buttercream frosting is delicious. My favorite is the cotton candy. Cotton candy I know it sounds like it would be so sugary sweet your teeth would hurt but it wasn't. It's was a nice hint of cotton candy sweetness but not over powering. It was very good. I saw pics of the German Chocolate cupcake and I can't wait to try that one. I've been to many places that sell cupcakes and many of them make cupcakes that are super heavy and dense like. It would be the consistency of a muffin with icing. YUCK! That's not how a "real" cupcake should be. If you like soft and moist cupcakes (which is how cupcakes should be) this is the place to go! read more

I've tried a bunch of the cupcake shops around the Philly area and cupcake carnivale has the best cupcakes in town! He makes some really creative flavor combos and the cake is always moist and fresh. If you get a chance, I'd recommend anything with strawberry butter cream..it is delicious!!!! read more

Amazing & delish!!!! I tried these cupcakes at an Italian Feast in our town & they were great. My husband & I bought the 6 pack because we couldn't choose just one. So far I have had 3 of the 6 from the Holiday Menu and have not been disappointed. The first one I had was the Grumpy Elf. I have never had such an amazing cupcake before until I had that one. It was so delicious and flavorful that I wish I had more than one. I then had the Spiked Egg Nog. While not a huge fan of egg nog in general this cupcake was delicious. It had the perfect taste of egg nog. The last cupcake I had was the Coconut Snowball and that was just as delicious as the previous 2 I had. If you love coconut then I say this one you will be your favorite. I would highly recommend trying these cupcakes. read more
