So I'm a huge fan of this shop, I'm local and I love their cupcakes so if it was just for that, they get 5 stars but tonight I came there with my husband and son. We came 10 minutes before closing and the girl working there couldn't be ruder. She clearly was annoyed we came in and stated "this is to go...correct?". I come there so often, I was taken aback. Even if we did eat there we wouldn't have been more then 10 minutes. I hope she doesn't treat other customers that way. read more

I tried their black and white cupcake from their food truck that was parked near Neiman Marcus at Northbrook court. I like that there is a cause behind this business. The cupcake I had however was not very fresh--and apparently had either been frozen or refrigerated as it was very cold when I received it. It was such a shame that the sponge was not fresh--the frosting was overly sweet and did not really have the taste of a good black and white frosting. I know that it said on the truck that they won cupcake wars--it must have been for the display--their frosting never could have won the show--if it is supposed to be butter cream, it might be helpful to use real butter and cream--this was just alot of confectioners sugar. I'm on a winning streak this week with food trucks. First, I finally caught up with 5411 Empanada, and now, Cupcakes for Courage. I bought 3 pink, velvet cupcakes, the black & White, the vanilla and the dark chocolate. I was a bit surprised when I unpacked them that they were the size of normal cupcakes. For $3.25, I thought they would be a bit bigger. I also felt a twinge of guilt for the 6 plastic containers each one came in. The containers are awesome in keeping your cupcake secure, the toppings undisturbed and everything fresh, but that's a lot of packaging. There's really no way around it though thanks to the food truck regulations where everything has to be prepared off-site. The cupcakes are rich, moist and decadent. I'm hoping to catch them again to try the more offbeat flavors, but I can definitely see why the four I tried are staples for them. The young lady taking my order was very nice and gave me a punch card. If I buy 12 cupcakes, I get one free which would bring down the price of each cupcake to $3.00. read more

I guess I have no business going in a place with cupcakes in the name. I have both a gluten and dairy allergy. Eggs are on the menu so I thought that almost any egg dish could be made without butter. I was told that they did not have any oil or spray oil; eggs could only be prepared with butter. She was very specific that there wasn't a drop of cooking oil in the shop. Ok. Then I'll have the turkey salad sandwich, hold the bread. They were out of arugula. All salads are made only with arugula and since they were out - no salads today. She suggested I have a fruit cup. I decided on the corned beef and sauerkraut sandwich, hold the bread, hold the cheese, hold the dressing - w/fruit please. My lunch arrived without fruit. One of my friends got homemade chips with her sandwich. I asked if they were gluten free. She said "Yes, we make them here." I asked "how do you make them?" She said... "we fry them in oil. read more

I purchased these from a food truck and each one was so dry. The frosting was hard on one of them that I could not even eat it. I love cupcakes and I was disappointed in these. Nothing special at all. I will not purchase these again. I have had much better tasting cupcakes. read more

Hands down, the best cupcakes in Chicago. The maple bacon is a perfect balance of sweet and savory. The double chocolate is the best darn chocolate cupcake I've ever eaten. The sweet potato pie, in my opinion, counts as a vegetable serving since it's so full of roasted sweet potato. Okay, I've tried them all (almost). A lot of people have said they don't take credit cards, but I've used my debit card and I assume credit cards work as well. Check them out. Absolute best!! read more

I have been to this restaurant many times for breakfast. I always receive great service and last time with my breakfast, they offered complimentary donut holes which was an amazing surprise. I love that they support a great cause and they always have new cupcake flavors to try. The avocado toast is incredible and I have a great time every time I come here with friends for breakfast! I fell in love with these cupcakes from the cupcake for courage green truck. I got the peanut butter and the strawberry both were very yummy. My mom got the double chocolate and said it was really good also. The cake was moist and the frosting was sweet and made with butter cream. I also love the fact that they donate some of the money to the Leukemia and Lymphoma society because it also hits close to home for me. read more

As a self proclaimed cupcake connoisseur, I've tried so many different cupcake establishments that I've lost count. Cupcakes for Courage is BY FAR the best! Their flavors are varied and each one is absolutely delicious. I work right across from a Crumbs bakery, and even though their cupcakes are twice the size of CfC, I refuse to buy from them anymore. CFC's cupcakes may be smaller than Crumbs (though, no smaller than your traditional cupcake- Crumbs just makes them XL), but they have ten times the flavor and they are OH SO moist! I have yet to try a flavor that wasn't absolute perfection. The owner of this truck is also one of the sweetest people I've met in this city, too! I absolutely recommend Courage for Cupcakes over any other cupcake shop or truck in the city! The Survivor is my absolute favorite- a funfetti style cake with a rainbow colored frosting- you just can't beat it ! MMMMM MMM! read more

I would have rated this higher had we just stuck to cupcakes. They were great! moist and flavorful with an interesting selection. The pastries were just okay; not any reason I would go back. And the doughnuts were a disappointment. I bought them for my kids to share and one for us to try. The kahlua and cream was alright but the two cream filled doughnuts were not baked all the way, still raw dough in the middle. At $2.50 a doughnut I expected them cooked all the way. This place is amazing! I typically order from here for every holiday and my family loves it. The owner is almost always personally on hand, helping fill orders or talking to customers which is rare to see this day in age. The cupcakes are absolutely delicious but I would also recommend trying the donut holes, croissants, or even their Sunday brunch. read more

Let me start by saying the cupcakes are delicious. A lof of variety and the prices are reasonable. My favorite is the peanut butter banana. If I had one complaint is that the truck is not very reliable. They routinely skip my stop or are very late. Other than that, it's great and you're helping a good cause. read more

I would give zero stars for service. Cupcakes are good. Went to try breakfast, menu looks great. I went inside to ask how long or put our names down while my family waited outside. Ashley said 'we don't take reservations.' I stated we are all here just looking for a table. Her response was, look around, there aren't six chairs, so guess you don't have one. Unbelievable. I love the cupcakes from the Green Machine so much, I had them make my wedding cake. It was FANTASTIC! They were so great to work with, from the cake tasting, to all of our special requests for the big day, they were awesome. I find myself hooked on these cupcakes. With the exception of one flavor, all have been yummy and delicious. I don't remember the flavor of the one that I found dry. I thought it might have been because it was gluten free; however all I have tried are gluten free (which I am grateful they offer), so am not sure. I used to buy cupcakes off the truck in the very beginning of CFC - i went in today with so much excitement to get one of my fav cupcakes (haven't been in a long time - I don't live close and now there's an awesome cupcake place by me) and I have to say I am so disappointed. The cupcake was sooooo dry, like it had been in the freezer and taken out to defrost. I had the Strawberry Shortcake - and i through it away. I was bummed. I also got a peach muffin and that was dry - I chalked that up to just not my kind of muffin. And the service was just mediocre. I unfortunately won't be going back. :( read more

Hands down the best cupcakes in the Chicagoland area. I don't know how they do it, but everyone is just perfect. The frosting is silky and not too sweet. The cream cheese frosting has just enough cream cheese to be light and fresh. I live an hour away and when I have a craving for cupcakes, there isn't another place the comes close. read more
