Was in Brookfield and I had to drop in D&D to check out their donuts. I was surprised to find a minority owned business in this area. Service was pleasant and I was eager to try out the goods. The available donuts are kept in a tower display case. I really wanted to get my hands on an apple filled donut but unfortunately they didn't have any. It's 11am on a Thursday and I don't know if they were sold out or they just didn't make any. Anyway, this is take out only. The space is bright and open, but no seating is available. I ordered a raised yeast, caramel, and blueberry. The woman working was kind enough to let me sample a yeast and an old fashioned donut hole. At D&D it was mostly about the raised yeast for me. I have to give it up to this 2020 Donut Fest winner's slightly different but amazing donuts! You can tell a lot of thought and love was put into the dough formula. It was so soft, pillowy, and moist with a nice texture. A strong foundation is going to be a must if mostly the only other donut variation is going to be the glaze and the glaze was just as strong. The consistency was perfect for the dough. The glaze flavors were delightfully forward, tasty, and approximately distinctive. The caramel was rich while the blueberry was sweet and fruity. The glaze held up over time and was not a runny mess hours later. The donuts were pricey but worth it. I've paid the same or more for so great donuts. I have to come back for that apple! I probably will buy and spend way more than I need to next go round. read more

Donuts at D& D's place in Chicago were basically sold out so we asked if the LaGrange location was still open and had any donuts left. The Chicago location called the LaGrange location and confirmed that donuts and particular flavors were indeed available. We drove directly to the LaGrange location and ordered 1 chocolate donut and 1 Carmel donut. I had the Carmel one. Oh my! The donut was ooey gooey Carmelicious!! Parking: street and side street parking. It was a beautiful day in Chicagoland area so parking was difficult. Decor: spiritually based. Donut inspired with their multiple awards displayed. I read numerous reviews praising this place. So I stopped while visiting the farmers market. It was not busy at all. Should have given me a hint. The test doughnut was expensive, along with the 6 cake doughnut holes. The ride home all I could smell was grease. So of course I got in the house and tried the cake variety. Horrible it tasted like the smell grease. Move on to the yeast variety also grease. I got sick after 2 bites. Couldn't even eat them. read more

The service was so friendly on the south side, but they were out of apple fritters so we came here. It was hugggeee and covered in pecans. So sweet, soft and delicious. I told my daughter we'd get donuts before school since she's been a trooper. She loves her sleep & we've had to wake up early to get her brother to school earlier than usual. I tried both the classic old fashioned and the fluffy yeast ones, and they were incredibly delicious and so wonderfully soft they practically melted in my mouth. Pure perfection. I also indulged in their famous Texas glazed donut, and wow, it lived up to the hype. It was absolutely massive and just as delicious and tender as the doughnut holes. They genuinely have an amazing array of donuts to choose from, it's almost impossible to pick just one favorite. I even ventured out and tried a pineapple glazed donut, which was quite good and offered a unique, fruity flavor, although I generally lean towards simpler, untopped varieties. I enjoyed the donuts here but be prepared to be sticker shocked! Pick ONE and be done! These donuts are super expensive! They are big and topped, loaded and filled with toppings but I spent $30 for 4-5 donuts. The service was good, the owner was there and talked about the awards and accolades they had received but I definitely had buyers remorse after I got the total! Yeesh! Very polite staff. Clean and direct presentation. The donut flavors were slightly above average, but the persistent smell of raw dough and gooey donut texture wasn't great. Maybe an undercooked batch or just how they make their version of yeast donuts. The apple fritter sadly was a disappointment. Mushy underneath and inside, more of a glazed flavor than anything. Very little apple flavor. The nail in the coffin is the cost. A dozen donuts here is 2.5 times the cost of a dozen at almost any other place. As I was heading to a coffee shop a few doors down, the friendliest man was at the window rolling donut dough and he waved hello. That was my first impression of this shop. A few hours later I stopped in with my husband, and thank God I did! It was so amazing to hear their story and see how blessed this family is to have won all the awards. And I can see why! And SO, one evening when I realized we'd blown past the opening without comment, we beelined across the street and walked in, only to discover they were already closed for the day. Great donuts and just a fun staff, got there a little late almost close to noon, so my selection of donuts were limited but staff were helpful in telling me their faves of the ones left. The fruit filled donuts were fantastic, I will say you need to eat this probably within a day or keep them refrigerated, otherwise the jelly/glaze will melt. Best donuts I have ever had. I went late in the day - 4:30 and there were very few left but I was dying to try them. I figured they would be kind of stale but I would get a sense of whether they would be worth a drive one morning to get them fresh. I was amazed at how good they were. The raised donuts are so flavorful!!!! They use real fruit to make all of the glazes and you can really tell. The donuts are light and sweet without being overly sugary. I have my favorites but I also like to take a new variety home with me and it's never disappointing. I will say that I wish that the Google search of them was more accurate as far showing that they are open when they actually are not. I guess when you lack options in the area a place like this could seem like it's great. The donuts are average. What isn't average is the price. $4.00 for a donut and $6.00 for a long John is diabolical. These are standard sized and not extra large so it doesn't justify the price point. What we have here is a business model that wasn't well thought-out. In order to justify the prime LaGrange Rd real estate and attached lease cost, the donut prices increase exponentially. Compare this with another donut shop in the area, Honey Fluff Donuts in Countryside. For the price of three long John's here, you can get a dozen donuts at Honey Fluff. To be honest, the donuts at Honey Fluff are also better. The issue with D&D's is you cannot justify the price for the product. Mediocre product doesn't set yourself apart and it definitely doesn't justify charging two to three times as much as other local shops that aren't in a prime location. read more
