I got their cannoli cake and I absolutely loved it. It's a light and fluffy yellow cake with cannoli cream filling and iced with vanilla buttercream. The outside of the cake has crushed pistachios. I think it's a perfectly balanced cake. The cake was nicely moist maybe because of the cannoli cream, and it was really light and airy. I love buttercream, especially a sweet buttercream and the buttercream on this cake is sweet like a birthday cake would be. I really enjoyed this cake and would recommend. The lemon mascarpone cookies were also delicious. Very fresh and soft with a light delicate and crisp glaze. They melt in your mouth! read more

My sister bought a Canoli cake here for my niece wedding. Also, a tray of Italian cookies. Let me start by saying this was the worst canolli cake I have ever had.it was mostly butter cream .we couldn't even taste the canolli in it. Second, the cake was so dry and crumble and tasteless. Also, it was supposed to be a layer of yellow cake and a layer of chocolate cake. It was all chocolate. It's absolutely terrible!! The cookies were also Unedible. The lemon cookie tasted like a pine sol. It was disgusting!! I don't understand how you call yourself an Italian bakery?? As an Italian, it's really disappointing how awful your product is. Beware using this bakery for cakes or cookies. They got their name on the Italian ice and spamoni ice cream. High marks for this store both from a product quality and customer service perspective. I needed some spumoni ice cream to take to my folks who live out of state...they'd recently remarked how they couldn't find anything locally where they're from, so I wanted to surprise them with a treat. I contacted Lezza's and I learned the history of their product and that I'd found the right place for what I needed. They kindly held four containers aside for me and I was able to pick up a couple days down the road. Super helpful and friendly. Oh, and the spumoni. So good. We have been hitting this place up all during COVID-19 for a quick fix and finding amazing items just on walking around the shop. They have everything you would normally want from a bakery, but then so much more. They had cookie decorating kits LONG before the holidays and theirs are inexpensive and put together with a lot of attention to detail. They also have cannoli kits, which are a lot of fun. Picked up a few Italian pastries from this place last weekend. I was thoroughly impressed. I usually drive 20 -30 minutes to get a good cannoli - but not any more. Place is close - they have street parking - so pulled up to the front of the store. There was one customer in front of me and she was taking her sweet time so I waited a while. There were others in the back doing something, but they didn't really more to come help. I ordered a box of mixed stuff. Cannolis are made fresh so I waited a little while Again for those but that wait I did not mind. They were worth it. They were delicious. Any way I paid and it was as expectedly priced. This is a very high 4 stars. Their spumoni is apparently a local legend (rum flavored ice cream...mmm) so I decided to go get some and check out the accompanying bakery. They're open til 8, which is wonderful, as you can go get goodies after work. The first person who greeted me had only started working there, so she didn't know what anything was, but the second clerk obviously knew their stock and was very helpful. I got some doughnut holes (the cinnamon is a revelation), some cake bars (bars topped with flavored cream, then dipped in ganache - the Bananas Foster Bar was lovely, very rich; the Lemon Cake Bar was OK, I'd hoped for a little more pucker with the lemon); a lemon ricotta muffin (moist; good) and a puff-pastry thing (disappointing custard; adequate puff pastry) and some Italian ice and gelato. The tiramisu-flavored gelato was more a very high-end coffee gelato (very nice).The gelato is probably a cut above the ice, but it's very nice for ice (root beer Italian ice? yes please). I was really impressed with the I was surprised when I came in and had two teenage employees instantly greet me and ask if I needed help. As far as Italian bakeries go, does Lezza's outshine all others in terms of authenticity? This was my burning question and I needed to put out the fire... I mean, we all know they've been killing the wholesale market for decades upon decades, but that's another story... Knowing the name Lezza is famed in the Italian dessert world of Spumoni, Cannoli and Italian Ice since 1905 (yes, over a century) without a doubt, they're doing some things right. After moving its retail shop from Bellwood to Elmhurst, I was in need of dessert for a dinner party and headed straight for the cases to find ANY traditional ITALIAN pastry I could... Nope. I wasn't here for Italian Ice or Spumoni... No doubt you've seen the name in the freezer section of select grocers; various gelatos & Ice. The cannoli you just ate at the restaurant your dining at, it was probably from Lezza's too. Its a name many have grown up with and have associated with authentic Italian treats.....many except me. Only thing I remembered about Lezza's was their Spumoni, a treat I haven't had in years... My Selection: Sfogliatelle (aka Lobster Tail), Napolean, Monachini (named Monageen here - semi open faced pastry filled w/either cannoli or custard, I chose cannoli) & 1 Cannoli. Tiramisu, Pasticcioti, Rum Baba, Tartufo and Cannoli cakes were Italian classics featured as well. Americanized desserts displayed: various cheesecake slices, cakes, muffins, brownies, cupcakes, coffee cakes and danishes. Another case with assorted Italian cookies and one with gelato. Various flavors of Italian ice. They use Lavazza for their espresso and cappuccinos. Now - there are a few outstanding old school bakeries my family & I have been going to for YEARS, so I know what I like. When it comes to custard and cannoli, I am VERY particular and this is the standard by which I always judge a good Italiano bakery. If you grew up as a 1st generation Italian, your probably picky too...there was simply no way to escape them as they were at every family function, celebration or dinner table... There were 4 girls working behind the counter and service was efficient and helpful with a fair amount of customers inside..as well as a few occupying tables while enjoying their treats... Plenty of tables, bar stools along the wall and a separate room for private parties. They keep this place spotless. Wanting to sample the gelato, I tasted the Cannoli flavor. It was more vanilla than anything. They make a seasonal Cinnamon Vanilla (fyi) I was hoping to try, but it wasn't offered. I grabbed 4 Italian Cookies - Chocolate Nut, Lemon Cookie, Soft Biscotti w/dried fruit & nuts and Paste Burro..none of which were memorable. The chocolate in the Chocolate Nut was so mild and cookie was dry. Lemon Cookie had a forward lemon flavor from the icing alone that threw me off...The Biscotti was soft and not bad...Paste Burru is a butter cookie and was topped with pistachio crumbles...just ok. Cookies were very mediocre to me. As far as the pastries, they were very fresh but I was not impressed AT ALL and neither were my non Italian friends. If I had to choose one, it would be the Cannoli. Crispy shell, filling was thicker & a little sweeter for my taste when I really just want that whipped ricotta to shine...The ricotta is everything in a cannoli for me. Wasn't the best I've had, but not bad. While the Sfogliatelle (lobster tail) looked gorgeous and visually perfect, the end result was disappointing. Beautiful layers of crispy, flaky pastry, but after one bite - crunch was all I heard. Overkill on the crunch. The filling - - sparse. Little custard with candied lemon. I was hoping for more here. Traditionally, these can be filled with French or whipped cream or custard. This didn't leave me wanting more... Napolean was the sore loser of them all. The flaky pastry layers were ok. Instead of being layered with custard, this was layered with what reminded me of a sweet buttercream. I've ONLY ever had Napolean's with custard. I'm all for variation, but it missed every mark for me. After my purchase, a friend and I grabbed a cappuccino and split a slice of Key Lime Cheesecake. We both felt it was overly sweet and not the creamy light texture we were hoping for...I stopped after 2 bites. We were told everything is scratch made, cheesecake included.. Cookies - $10/lb. or .48 cents each. Pastries - $3.25 each. Cannoli - $2.25. Having grown up with Italian cookies and pastries, I'm going to be a tough critic. Honestly, Chicago Pastry (formerly Turano bakery) was better. You, on the other hand may love the Italian (or other) offerings... I believe this is the same Lezza that's located in Bellwood which I've never been to in the 15 years I've lived out here. My family and I decided to go here since we were at a nearby event in the park. They had free samples of donuts which was nice and also very delicious...kinda like gourmet munchkins. LOL They had a chocolate covered and cinnamon donut which were really good. I'm glad they had the free samples because the gelato I ordered was a sample size. I was shocked once she brought it out to me! I literally laughed out loud! I thought it was a joke! I used to come in for croissants as often as I could. They were baked to perfection. Sadly, the last TWO times i bought them, they have been gummy on the inside. The gelato is still good however, the cookies (italian?) are bland and things dont quite look and taste the same as they did. This is unfortunate as so many GROCERS (like Whole Foods, Mariano's and even Jewel) offer beautiful cakes and pastries. Whole foods even has my favorite croissants! read more

I've been to Lezza Spumoni & Desserts on Spring Road a few times picking up deserts. The family really likes the cannoli dip. It's exactly what it sounds like, broken pieces of cannoli shells (chips) and cannoli filling (dip). Sweet! I finally had a chance to sit down and have a muffin and some hot tea ... yes, a tea drinker, I can't comment on the coffee. The pumpkin muffin was too "cake like" and not "pumpkiny" enough. I really hate to waste food, but I ended up tossing half of it in the garbage and buying a blueberry muffin. The blueberry was really great! Exactly what you'd expect, moist and lots of blueberries. They don't bake at this location, so you miss out on some of the bakery smells, but they make up for it in a super clean and comfortable atmosphere. This has been our go to bakery since college days at Elmhurst College. My wife and I just love this place from the first aroma when we walk in until we start ordering our take home desert. We especially like the Spumoni it is a good as we have had during our many trips to Italy. The food is complimented by the friendliness of the staff. So like any place I have been to you get full attention especially since she was charging me 300.00 for a special cake for 40 people, with attitude to start and interruption every few minutes to help other customers. After almost 2 hrs of many interruptions and ATTITUDE. I figured go with them. Then a couple of days later making another appointment to bring swatches for colors for my cake I waited over an hour. I left and an hour passed and did not hear from KRISTINA WITH A K. I told the girl behind the counter I was upset because I had an appointment with her and please let KRISTINA WITH A K know I was unhappy. Never received a call back I decided to call her and ask if she forgot about me. She said she had a meeting with the owners and was never told I was there and so she says what do you want to do now. Like my hour was nothing to her. I figured I can forgive and give her a second chance even tho there was again Attitude. Half hour goes by and she calls me and tells me that my order is too ornate for her she recommended I go to another bakery and prior to that she took a 100.00 deposit which I will get back but Im flabbergasted at the ATTITUDE AND SERVICE THAT THEY PROVIDED AND I WANT EVERYONE TOI KNOW BEWARE of KRISTINA WITH A K KRISTINA WITH AN ATTITUDE. Sorry, but both visits we had to the bakery were a disappointment. The kolachkys were very dry.Even the apricot filling. When we came in to try a coffee cake,they all looked overbaked,much too brown. After our tasting for our wedding cake we left very excited for the cake! My husband had designed it and we raved to family and friends on the flavors and design. As we walked into the reception it was obvious that this was not the cake that we ordered. There was supposed to be a black tier but there was none. The frosting had fingerprints all over it and a bunch of smudges. The person in charge of the room at the venue decorated it with flowers so we would have more than just a plain white cake. And that's just the outside. The inside was not what we tasted at our tasting at all. It lacked flavor in the fillings and most of the chocolate from what was supposed to be marbled cake. Needless to say we are disappointed but they were accommodating to get 50% back even though we believe it should be much more. Also, three months prior to the wedding we ordered cookies to add to our account for the day of. The week of our wedding, the event coordinator at the venue went through details of the wedding and noticed the cookies were actually not ordered. Embarrassed by the execution of the custom cake I ordered and extremely disappointed by the way I was treated by the store manager Kristina and owner. About two months ago I contacted Lezza Bakery about making a custom cake to look like a bottle of Dom Perignon champagne with a graduation cap and stole. I emailed the bakery pictures of what I wanted with basic details to confirm they had the capability to make it. I spoke on the phone at length with Kristina, the store manager to explain what I wanted. She confirmed that they had discussed the cake at a staff meeting and were not only able but excited to make it. When I went to pick up the cake what they had made did not even closely resemble the pictures/description we had discussed and was quite frankly embarrassing. What I had ordered should have looked like a bottle of champagne but what they gave me was a 12x12 round cake with the corners beveled and in the center sticking out of the cake was a rolled log of rice krispies covered in black fondant to mimic the top of a champagne bottle. In all reality it ended up looking like male genitalia sticking out of the cake. As this was completely unacceptable I asked them to remake the cake. The store manager was extremely rude and confrontational about remaking the cake but agreed to do so and said to pick up the new cake in 2 hours. When I went back to the store to pickup the second attempt at the cake, while this cake looked a lot better than the first version it was still not what I had ordered. While the shape of the cake was better, the Dom Perignon logo and the top of the champagne bottle had both been removed from the first cake and just stuck onto the newest version leaving the logo wilted and barley legible and the top of the champagne bottle still looked like a mess. The cake itself was wrong as I had ordered that the butter cream be coated in fondant and there was no fondant on body of cake. I had also spoke to the team at length about making the top of the champagne bottle look like it had aluminum foil on it and that technique was not used. To make it worse when I came back to the bakery to pickup the second attempt at the cake the manger had already left for the day. I was able to get Kristina on the phone and she was extremely rude to me. She sated that there was nothing she could do about how the cake looked, and when I asked if she could ask someone from her staff to come in early the next morning to fix it she refused to call and ask them. She said that the bakery had to finish two wedding cakes before my graduation cake and it just wasn't a priority for them to fix my cake. She was completely unapologetic and had no interest in helping me. She simply told me to just take a cake from their refrigerator. When I mentioned that I would be posting these picture and this review on Yelp she said she would have the owner call me to see what they can do. When the owner called me he yelled that I was "trying to ruin his business." Even when I explained that I just wanted them to fix their wrong he basically told me they would not be doing anything to help me. Larisa M and Nicole, the two staff members that were working at the time I picked up the cake are terrific examples of what amazing customer service representatives look like and their parents should be so proud. These girls went above and beyond to help me. When Kristina refused to help find a way to fix the cake these girls not only came up with ideas to make the cake look better they actually did it. They were calling the bakery staff to learn over the phone how to use the air brushing machine and testing out different solutions. I've only been here once but it's very easy to get to convenient parking they have an outdoor little eating area I ordered some cheese apricot kolaches and for the kids some Italian cookies including lemon drop turtles and stars the kids ate all the cookies in one day so they must be good the kolaches were ok but not spectacular as Jewel sells something similar. I would say they need more butter a little more moisture and a little better cheese. When I was out of any other options for sweets,I opted for Lezza. This place is perfectly located with spacious seating.. It serves mainly bakery stuff, ice cream and cookies. I had lemon knot and coconut macaroons, both tasted below average. I also tried Fudge bomb pastry which was very usual in taste..I was expecting more but it failed..nothing special about it !!!!!
