Ahhh, Super-clean-o, Cupertino. This city is a great place to raise kids. The schools are top-notched, the kids are nice, there is very little crime. A quick check on the Megan's Law database shows very few registered sex offenders in this area. Having moved from a high density sex registrant, high density gang area (Hello: East San Jose!) I can say I feel much more comfortable walking in my neighborhood and letting my kids play outside. Alas, Cupertino is not perfect. The traffic around the schools is horrendous in the mornings when you are trying to go to work, and if you are a young, single twenty-something, you will probably be bored to tears here. But if you are parent and are debating between living in a less expensive area and sending your kid to private school or coming to Cupertino, I'd recommend moving here. read more

We enjoy a great school district, tons of great resources, large chain restaurants, shopping and entertainment. The city is safe, and prosperous, extremely convenient to all highways including 85 and 280 with close junctions to all other major highways. Never too far from neighboring cities like Downtown San Jose and San Francisco. Cupertino has the right amount of bustling activities, without the crowdedness of a real urban city. Its as good as it gets to getting both worlds of a quiet suburbia and a busy busy city. Nestled between Sunnyvale (also known as the 2nd safest city in the US) and Saratoga + Los Gatos, Cupertino has access to it all. And as someone's already mentioned, we are home to APPLE, where the mac and iphone you're using was created! LOVE US! And Cupertino Village. You've got to visit it, get some real authentic Chinese/Taiwanese culture and food. I LOVE LIVING IN CUPERTINO! We're SPOILED here! read more

I live basically across the street from Cupertino, in San Jose. the cost of the average house in my neighborhood is probably about a mil, but to be in the Cupertino school district, expect the value of the house to be close to 20% higher than on my street. Luckily I don't have kids, so I could care less. Cupertino has some of the best schools in the area, so props to them. between 2000 and 2007, the demographics for the racial makeup of the city dramatically changed, from primarily white, to more than 60% asian, mostly Chinese. I can't say they are bad neighbors to have at all, I dig them, even if they do drive a little slow at times and maybe aren't the world's best parkers. some pros to Cupertino: it's clean, safe, and shares an open space preserve with Saratoga that is easily accessible for hiking. The library is awesome, and De Anza college brings in cultural events and what not. some cons: it's dead at night, finding a place to eat other than donut wheel is a bitch. Valco is a joke mall. Here's hoping it can turn itself around. I'm rather dissapointed in Cupertino due to the debacle where they blocked Marukai, an awesome japanese grocery store from opening, because some neighbors put up a stink over basically nothing. That situation makes me drop them a star. (update, after several years, they finally approved the store!) they are making a halfhearted effort at developing a downtown. hopefully it works out for them. It's a good place to raise kids, even if you have to pay a premium on housing to get them into the good schools there. read more

My husband and I decided to purchase our first home in Cupertino a year ago due to the great public schools. We are blessed with wonderful neighbors whom we actually know and get a chance to chat with. I participated in the City wide Garage Sale day today and LOVE the idea. It was a great success to get items recycled while making a few bucks. I sold some expensive oil painting instructional books, canvases, and paint for very cheap to a young mother and her daughter who thanked me because it's too expensive to do such activities together otherwise. How sweet of her to say! I'm going to go shopping myself tomorrow for some good deals. There are some great restaurants and parks in Cupertino as well. read more

City is pretty clean and has a certain feel to it that makes me enjoy just driving through... I like the amount of trees and greenery mixed in with the buildings and plazas and stuff... I hate to put down other counties but I think the Sheriff's here, as opposed to the SJPD, really take pride in their job and their City! I deal with them daily and can tell you first hand that they are hardworking and caring. SJPD would take my cases and make it the lowest possible charge for the people I catch stealing, whereas the Sheriff's always make sure they charge the maximum amount allowed by the law! I was worried about children on Blaney and Merritt Drive, because there was no crossing guard at 3:30. (There was only one for the elementary school and they left earlier.) I witnessed someone run the stop sign and give a nasty sign to all the drivers. After emailing the traffic department, they responded immediately. A few weeks later, I saw the crossing guard at 3:30. I come here often and I really like the way it is really quiet 90% of the time. When most of my friends go to places I do not want to eat out at, I go here it gives me time to write my book, read the Bible and just relax. I get lonely easily and when I come here I do not feel lonely at all. There is always something good to do and someone good to meet. As a single person I find this a great place to let the stress drain out before continuing on with the week. The people think this is a lame idea are crazy this is my sanctuary. read more

Cupertino is boring for all the right reasons. It's safe, has great public schools, and is a great place to raise kids. I grew up in the area and moved back when I had kids. Most of the best entertainment is of the family type and either free or inexpensive. For grownups it has about 150 restaurants of many types, a few good bars, a couple of bowling alleys, and the movies. Cupertino is essentially an international small town. It is about three degrees of separation between any two people. So the CEO of the company that has the technology you need is probably one of the parents on your kid's AYSO team (it happened to me). If you are looking for exciting clubs and street scene, this ain't it. For what it is, and for what it does, it is one of the best. read more

Clean, good location if you work on the peninsula or Silicon Valley. Great locale if you're Asian, AA or don't want to be in an all whitebread town like Pleasanton, CA. Great access to nearby junior colleges or Stanford Univ. Really expensive, quiet night life past 8 p.m. especially for trick or treating and the bus lines die after 8 p.m. for the most part. read more

I actually really enjoyed living in Cupertino when I did. It is safe, nice houses, people keep to themselves (meh whtvr) good places to eat, loads of Chinese places to eat and shop, diverse, good schools ( I went there! wooot! ) . If I could I would live there again in my adult life (with a different roomie!! lol) -1 Star for having no downtown really, kinda strange. read more

Ever since Apple computers has been in the city Cupertino, they think they can charge the general public and anybody who works in their city anything they want in goverment fees.In my thirty years of working in different cities,I find Cupertino is one of the most difficult cities ever to deal with.If I had a choice I'd wouldn't be there but they know they have you so they squeeze hard.It's really a shame such a nice place has to squeeze the common man so hard. read more

Born and raised in Cupertino and I have to say, if that weren't true, I'd give Cupertino 2 stars. I have to amp up its star rating though, because Cupertino has been good to me. If all you're looking for is a place to party and eat great food into the wee hours of the night, Cupertino is not for you. However, if you're looking for a safe neighborhood with parks and great schools to raise a family - Cupertino is for you. Yes, some (okay, most) of our residents don't know how to drive, we don't have a downtown and the one mall we have (Vallco) has nothing to speak of other than the new AMC theater, but we have the Flint Center which has GREAT shows year-round. We have Memorial Park which throws great art and wine festivals including the Cherry Blossom Festival each year, our little library has been remodeled and I must say it's rather quaint, and hey, from any corner, you could spit and hit a coffee shop, pearl tea store, or one of the Apple campuses. You can get free Wi-Fi in just about any store you walk into as well. Oh, and forget to lock your front door while you go out to run errands? That's okay! Cupertino's crime rate is as close to zero as it can be! Oh, and don't forget - we do have Alexander's Steak House nicely hidden in Cupertino and it's probably the best steak house around. For those of you too good for Cupertino because we don't have a down town or clubs that are open until 5 in the morning, that's okay, we won't miss you when you skip over us to go to...eh, downtown San Jose. read more

Wow, did not know Cupertino the city was on Yelp. I'm surprised at the low rating. I guess it is like what others are saying, it depends on what you are looking for. Cupertino is a suburb at its purest, well almost. It is very safe and quiet. It does have crime of course, but I feel safe walking at night, even at Creekside, which is on Miller. The property values are high, even during a recession, the property taxes are also high, but what you get is great schools, quiet neighborhoods/parks, barely any "gangsters", except for the wannabes, which I laugh at. The only problem I can think of is the drivers. People are honestly retarded at driving. I'm not trying to be modest here, but I'm a very good driver. I accelerate slowly, brake slowly, don't follow closely, give almost everyone the right of way, drive slow through parking lots etc. I have had NO accidents or tickets in my 7 1/2 years of driving! You've got to admit that that is good. But anyway, people of all ages drive terribly here. With the teens and tweens, you get people 2 feet from your back bumper, or speeding up behind you like they are gonna hit you then sit on your butt, or just driving fast in general, EVERYWHERE. With the adults, you have people basically driving with their heads up their butts. In this month alone I've seen 2 people at a red light stopped to go straight, they see the left turn light turn green, they stare at it, and start going and the people in front of them turing left have to stop, and they just keep going like nothing happened. Or, they will almost hit you, and not EVEN LOOK AT YOU. I'm talking tires squeeling, pushing the brake into the floor, and they just keep driving. i'll tell you one thing, it's usually older non-white individuals though. Other than the drivers, Cupertino is cool. I never realized it until I turned 21-22 and I could appreciate Cupertino for what it is. The weather is great year round, very mild. It's either sunny or rainy here. Mostly sunny all year round though, except some clouds in the winter. I'll miss Cupertino when I move. read more

People either hate Cupertino or love it. After living in the city for close to 20 year, I still haven't really fallen in love with it. This place is over priced and the place is like living in China or South India. I had my oldest go through the Kennedy Monta Vista schools and yes they are great but the teachers really never cared and the students were negatively competitive. Don't get me wrong, I am all for a healthy competition but don't approve of what I see here. This is a great place if you have money to buy a $1.5 m house which is 60+ years old and have 3 or 4 kids to put through school. You'll get your moneys worth. If you don't have kids, don't bother to buy here. Apple has hiked up the prices after announcing the new Apple campus. There are hoards of Chinese investors who buy properties here with almost full cash down payment on houses. read more
