I cannot give this place enough high marks. We were given only one keyfob when we bought a vehicle. Jeep wanted to charge us close to $600 for an additional one because this year/model has to be programmed professionally. Since we were only in the area few days, I had ordered an extra one online. It seemed all the locksmiths would take longer to order. Took the keyfob to Curly's on 164th and it was done in about a half an hour and our fee for programming the keyfob and making the additional key was $135!!! I needed a replacement key fob programmed (bought the fob myself on Amazon for $20) and started calling around Vancouver to get it done. The prices were all over the place--dealership quoted me around $350, and most locksmiths wanted $100 or more, often with a wait of several days to get in. I've recently had to make several copies of house and internal door keys for house-sitters, as well as sons now old and trustworthy enough to be left alone for short periods of time. Each time, I've been in and out of Curly's in less than five minutes, with perfectly cut copies, ready for use, without any issues whatsoever, for a couple bucks each. Their staff is helpful, friendly, knowledgeable and courteous. I'll never use Walmart, Fred Meyer, or other big box store's key duplicator services, or one of those dumb, automated kiosks ever again, after my recent experiences here. Every key I've ever had copied elsewhere has run in to some sort of problem, and apparently, I've been paying too much for crappy service. Curly's came thru for me when no one else did. I had a stripped key that wouldn't turn in the ignition, called some other guy and he wanted to charge me $250 to drive out and service my car. Thank goodness for a well equipped and upright shop to meet all of our lock and key needs! I am a realtor and frequently need to make key copies. This place has a greater selection of unique keys than any other local hardware store. Just today we were trying to figure out how to replace my son's lost car keys. I have now used Curly's 4 different times. Never Again. My first experience was fine I had a key cut from code. It was very costly, over four times what I could have ordered the key from the manufacturer for if I remember correctly. Key worked fine. It was just very costly. My second experience was not as good. I took a glove box key in to get re-keyed. I also took the key I wanted it keyed to. They broke the lock. Somehow it was my fault. It's still broken as I have not found a replacement. What ever you do remember the Curly's staff is always right, not the customer. Imagine asking that I pay them for breaking my lock. They said that if I didn't pay I could not have the broken lock back. The lock still opened the glove box but would no longer lock so I reluctantly paid. The third time my wife dropped by with a key that is a very common RV key. It is readily available at any RV shop, from ebay or amazon, and many many other places on the internet. We just happened to need it right away so she went co Curley's. After much attitude from the employee working she left. She went to Advanced RV Center where she bought the key for $3.50. Far less than the $25.00 plus she was quoted at Curley's because they were going to require here to buy the lock to get the key. Ah, our fourth trip involved the police when the employee lunged over the counter to grab a lock I picked up that they re-keyed but I had not yet paid for. I guess you don't get to make sure it works before you pay for it. Never Again. read more

There were two men working the counter the day I went in. One was professional, courteous and adept at his job. The other was obnoxious and snarky, and when asked a simple question, responded very sarcastically. For some background, my glasses fog up whenever I wear a mask indoors, and I can't see small writing well without glasses...which I had to remove and were on a chain around my neck after entering the store. I'm a USMC combat veteran with PTSD, anger issues and a service dog to help me manage it. My tolerance for rudeness is extremely low on my best day, and nonexistent on normal ones. My question was related to key color caps, as there were about 10 small boxes with various shapes and sizes and colors, in two rows with no apparent labels or identifiers. I simply asked which color cap was the appropriate one for the duplicate keys I was making. He responded "the medium one". I said "there are 10 boxes in no particular order that I can see, or any labels that I can read. So which are the medium ones?" He rudely stared at me and said "the ones between the large and the small", yet still refused to point out which of those 10 jumbled boxes were the ones needed for my particular keys. read more

10 years ago I used Curly's to rekey the locks on my new home. It was a wonderful experience. August of this year I called on them for the same thing in the new home I had moved to. An elderly gentleman came out and did the rekey. When he left one of the lever door handles did not work properly. When I called them they sent him back out. His response was that it works by pulling up so just use it that way and to walk away. Today the front door would not work with the key without a lot of jiggling and working the key. Never, Never Again. Surly attitude from the other side of the counter. Did not have mailbox locks in stock but was told shipment would arrive in two days. Called them two days later. No shipment. Called a week later. Still no shipment. Promised to call me when locks arrived; as of today, it's been a month. Went to local hardware store and they were well stocked for a lower price. Enough said! Online gets same locks for 2/3 the price without sales tax and they're delivered to your door in 48 hours. No more Surly Curly for me. read more

I went in after reading the reviews with some apprehension, but I figured between them and Fred Meyer I would try the small business. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in, both employees greeted me and while one gentleman was finishing work on a computer and the other was helping someone else, they both made sure I knew I was there and they weren't surly about it. The gentleman who helped me noticed my derp brother was having me copy a key twice instead of copying the two different keys I needed, and did not make me feel like a moron about it. He was quick and polite, including my drive there I was only away from work 15 minutes and had 4 keys made, which probably work better than the crapshoot that is Fred Meyer locksmith. So idk who everyone else was dealing with, but the guys at the location were friendly and helpful! read more

If I could choose zero stars, I would! I needed a key for my car that was stuck in my driveway without a way to get it to the locksmith. I would have gone straight to infinity, but the cost to tow it would have been too much. So I called the local guys. So much for local guys being honest! Not only were they late, but they charged me more than they quoted, and they didn't bring the second set of keys I requested. Granted the overcharge was only $25, but considering I paid $140 extra to have them come to my home (less than 2 miles from their shop), and that they were late and didn't bring the extra key, you would think that a $25 additional service charge would be an easy thing to waive. Now if I want my other key, I have to make time to go to their shop and most likely overpay for the second key as well. I guarantee you they won't pay me $140 for my time that would be wasted by going to see them again! I am very frustrated and I will never use them again! Please, if you need a locksmith, there are plenty of others in the area!!! Don't use these guys. I wish I would have checked their reviews on here before I picked up the phone! read more

Just like everyone else said- this place was incredibly quick. It really took less than 5 minutes, and the hold up was because I couldn't decide which kind of design I wanted on my personalized house key! Great prices, great experience. I am very happy with my house key that has puppies on it. :) Follow up: The keys given ruined our lock and we had to replace the entire thing... so that was a bummer. I don't normally do negative reviews I normally just don't go back to that business again. but one of the things that I don't like is when I enter a business and I get told a price whether it be an estimate or not. then the next gentleman that comes out and tells me it's $40 per remote and just does not have great customer service I won't go back. Sad cause when I worked in the area and Darrell was the tech there I brought a lot of business to them. Have been a customer for years. Last year had a lock set installed on double doors. Service tech was not real experienced, lock was damaged, asked him to make sure it was all set up, and I could replace when the new part came in. Well guess what, he didn't. Now I have a problem. I went to this shop today to have them cut a couple of GMC keyblanks I had received for my 2008 Yukon Denali. I was told by a young man there that because they are transponder keys, if they miscut them, they wouldn't be responsible. When I asked why they might miscut them there was another guy there, I assume the owner, and he started shouting at me and cussing me out with language I would never choose to use on someone. He shouted for me to get out of his shop and then called me a "CS" which I'm sure most of you can decipher. I was quoted $60 apiece for a blank Ford key, and they're for sale all over Ebay for 5 to 10 dollars each. Can't wait to see what programming costs.
