Curriculum is EASILY in the top 5 Shops of ANY kind in Salt Lake City. The carefully curated collection of menswear, candy, bar wares, Incense, books, jewelry, fragrances, Audio equipment, and desktop organizers is...cool. Honestly, there's no other word for it. This place is DOPE AF. Their Niche small production designer pieces are timeless, top quality, and yes cool. Need Blackwing pencils & paper & sharpeners? They got it. Need elegant vintage inspired "Speakeasy" glasses & swizzle sticks & cocktail shakers? They got it. Need a chic modern coffee maker or hand thrown coffee cup? They have it. Looking for Refined Japanese streetwear that's chic & utilitarian & made to last a lifetime? They got it. The prices are great. I can't go in without buying something. Today's visit?....imported sour peach Swedish Fish candy from Sweden. They have many items at EVERY price point. I do a lot of Christmas shopping here, they gift wrap your items for FREE and their wrapping style is cool and modern. Mikaela fixed my husband's disaster. He got the best haircut and beard trim of his life. I can't thank her enough as my sex life is about to finally improve, due to how great he looks and feels. I showed her a photo for ten seconds and she said, "got it." I didn't know then that she was a magician. Why they are not charging double or triple for this service is beyond me. He could have easily paid three times as much for a worse haircut in Portland, Oregon. We may have to start flying to SLC from our home in Alaska a couple times a year just to get good hair from this skilled artisan. 35$ for the best haircut of your life?! Are you flippin' kidding me?! It's taken me quite a while to find a barber that can take my shitty instructions and make it match the specific image I have in my head. Even before I found my favorite barber here (Colt is awesome!) I had come and received several decent haircuts from other barbers that have since moved away. Colt delivers pretty much what I am lookin go for every time. For reference, I have fine, straight, Asian hair although I'm sure his skills are versatile. He's a great conversationalist and makes you feel comfortable, but sometimes I'm not always feeling social, and can let me just sit in peace without feeling the need for obligatory small talk. The place itself is very classy, I would label the decor and vibe as "Hipster-bougie." Drink service is included with the haircut, and you feel extra classy being able to sip a bourbon (or PBR) while perusing the goods while you wait, and they offer much more than hair products: ranging from socks and beanies to cocktail supplies and hot sauces. The interior is very spacious and feels very safe as customers and barbers are all masked and plenty distanced and if needed they'll move an ear strap to trim around it. Some tips: Bring cash to tip your barbers for a job well done! (I think there's an option to tip via card but then it's not taxed. This goes for your servers as well!) I went in to see my guy, Fletch, I was super comfortable the shop space is very large and makes for a very comfortable, socially-distanced, area to browse for a minute or two before getting seated. It's difficult to describe this store without sounding strange. This store has so much personality it feels like a person. It has been carefully curated to reflect a very specific style. It's cool, like Really fucking cool. Its gothic, it's minimalistic, It's kinda pretentious and austere but also flamboyant fun silly and sexy. The pieces are of the highest quality yet the prices are doable and very fair. Beautiful fragrance, candles, bar ware, desk accessories, pocket knives, leather goods, handmade Japanese incense and sculptural incense burners, couture street ware, tarot cards and Taschen books. It's a genius mix of cold & pretentious and warm & welcoming. Its also very formal AND very casual? It is an oxymoron with its battling contrast, existing with opposition to itself. But it feels easy and friendly and smart and sexy. It's a place that will leave you feeling like you've had an experience. Don't miss out on this place, SLC is truly lucky to have it. read more

I am very particular about my haircuts (maybe it's because my Mom gave me many a bowl cut growing up and I'm scarred...). Colt is my guy and does a killer job every time - he knows what he's doing. He just does his thing and it always looks great. They also do a great job with social distancing and cleanliness. I've feel really safe there and haven't gotten sick (knock wood). Amazing staff of fantastic barbers that don't just cut hair... they are precision with every clip and make fine use of the straight blade! Absolute works of art. They are artists and they are at the top of their craft. This shop has turned into something much larger than a standard Barber Shop, too. They offer very obscure items here, including hand-crafted wallets, knives, Bartender items, AMAZING Bloody Mary mixes with unique flavors, cocktail mixers (all of which I have not been able to find anywhere!), top notch shaving gear, toothpastes... the list goes on. I have been coming here for years and have also brought my son here for his cuts. The management makes you feel like family. Chad and Jess are just about the sweetest people you will encounter. I went to Curriculum for the first time today with my family for haircuts for my husband and son. My husband had been a regular customer for the last 6 months and we had taken our son before. But today will be our last visit. As stated on their site: "With a team made up of attentive barbers and a friendly staff, we seek to provide a premium barbering and retail experience for everyone who stops in." UNLESS YOU HAVE KIDS. My son was a little unsure today and was extra sensitive and I guess that was TOO MUCH for the customer next to us for the 5-10 min our appts overlapped. He parent shamed my husband. Only CONLIN our barber was apologetic to his comments towards our family. After our two appointments, we were then told BY THE OWNER that WE "were just too much" for their establishment. And to come back when my son was 16. RUDE. I guess our bi-monthly business wasn't good enough and we won't be coming back. read more

I love the feel of a razor gliding across my hair. It's been so hard to find a place that takes the care and finesse in a cut that I used to get many years ago in Italy. Now I'm hooked on the professional level of hair care that the Curriculum barber shop offers. There aren't many places where you get a hot herbal scented towel wrapped around your head to wrap up the cut. This place is to hair that first/business class is to flying. And in my book, while it is s bit higher in price than a typical barber shop, the quality and experience justify the higher cost. I can highly recommend Kyle, who cuts my hair. When a person calls into a Barber Shop they have expectations. Especially someone who has had their hair cut by many great Barbers. I called this shop with 2 requests, 1. Someone who could do a mid fade and 2. someone who could do a razor line up. The scheduler told me that this could be done by Alex and when I asked "are you sure he can do this" he replied "yes, he's been cutting hair for a long time. In a barber world 1 year is NOT a long time. So tonight my husband walked out of the shop dissatisfied and disappointed. He definitely will not be going back here. read more
