My delicious meal at Curry Leaf.
    John M.

After seeing all of the glowing reviews for Curry Leaf, and since it is literally around the corner from my apartment, I opted to give it a shot for a weekend takeout dinner. I am by no means whatsoever a connoisseur of Indian cuisine, so I wasn't really sure what to order. The menu is extensive, and a little intimidating for a person who has no idea what a bhaji or a choat is. I took one recommendation from Megan C.'s review, the Samosa Choat, and I chose the Chicken Malai Kabob for meat. The dishes come with a tin full of jasmine rice, cooked perfectly. To echo the many other reviews, the whole meal was a flavor explosion! The only thing I didn't like was the Onion Bhaji, which they threw in for free. They were some sort of fried pancake, which sounded like it could have been good, but it was overcooked. But the rest of the meal? Wow! The portions are great, too! I have literally passed Curry Leaf hundreds of times in my travels and hardly ever took much notice of the place. The front is very unassuming and the inside is simple and small, but clean. The gentleman who greeted me at the register was pleasant enough. I got there a little early, so I had to wait a few minutes, and as I was there, several Uber eats delivery guys and a couple of customers came in to pick up their orders. Definitely more popular than I imagined it to be! Obviously it's the food that brings people to Curry Leaf and I now know what a bhaji and a choat are. I will be definitely getting my Indian Cuisine 101 certificate soon! Highly recommended!

Amazing spot. Freshly prepared, delivered hot straight to the table. Every bite was stellar. Folks were very friendly and the restaurant was calm and welcoming. The spot is small and unassuming. Not fancy pants, but doesn't need to be. Amazing experience. Excellent food. Decent prices. What more can you ask for?!

The food from this little hole in the wall was amazing. Somosa chaat was delicious. It had texture and crunch and flavor that was perfect. The fried cauliflower had the perfect amount of heat and still had great snap The lamb biriyani was delicious as well. Please be careful that it does not specify that it has nuts unless you ask. The lamb had no gaminess, meaning it was marinated for a while. The porata was a little underwhelming but the naan was good. The chili chicken was great. Unfortunately, I tried getting the spicy version and regretted it. But that's on me. I definitely had the runs for the next 24 hours cause my stomach couldn't deal with the heat. Would definitely order from here again

tl;dr definitely the best Indian food I've ever had. Initial vibe: Stopped into Curry Leaf (2046 Sansom St) and was hit with that warm, comforting spice cloud the second I walked in. It's a Nepali & Indian spot right in Center City, low-key and welcoming. Ambiance: Cozy, casual, and clean--tables are close enough to feel lively but not cramped. Lighting's soft, music at a chill volume, and it's the kind of place where you can actually talk. Nothing fussy; just the good stuff. Food: the garlic naan...insane. Blistered edges, pillowy middle, tons of garlicky bite--outrageously good. (They list Garlic Naan on the menu, and it lives up to the hype.) Mains were deeply flavored without being heavy--sauces tasted freshly built, bright spices, and you can tell they care about balance. Prices are super reasonable for Center City: naan around $6-7 and classic curries ~ $19-20, and the portions are big--one entrée plus naan easily fed two of us with leftovers. Service: Friendly and fast without hovering. Water refills kept coming, food landed hot, and they checked spice prefs without me asking. Felt like they actually wanted me to love what I ordered. Value: For the quality + portion sizes + location, it's a steal. I'd come back just for the naan, but honestly the whole meal slapped. Bottom line: 5/5, def a new go-to. If you're anywhere near Sansom, run for that garlic naan and a curry. Best meal I've had in ages.

If you don't like "food porn", don't read on because this place gave me a full on food orgasm, more on that later. I'm in Philly, for a day trip, so not really looking for Indian, really wanted to do cheese steak, but I'm hungry and it's next door to a vintage shop I was just in. I look place up and the reviews are really high, so I decide to give it a chance, but not overeat so I can go to other places later. I order an appetizer and bread, and I'm glad I did! The lamb sekuwa was so damn tasty and succulent, and they asked how long I wanted it cooked (rare, well done, very spicy, mild, etc) the only complaint is it was a dry dish, but they gave me spices and there are plenty of dishes with sauce. It was wonderful walking through Philly as night fell with that taste in my mouth, but many a person pbly got the wrong idea with sounds of satisfaction and me muttering "oh my god, mmmm, sooo good, wonderful", and I can't blame them if they steered clear and gave me wide berth. The flaky bread (Lacha Paratha) was also interesting, but also a dry sort of thing, but I had the spices to help. Let me also add, how accommodating the host was, giving me a free bottled water, helping me to charge my phone etc. This place was small but comfy, private feeling and off the beaten path. I am not a local to Philly, so it's not like, "it was near and the best of its kind near me"-its way off and way worthwhile. I reallllly hope to find its kind back in NYC. I'm going to try a main dish next time, the options on Menu are very intriguing. One of the best food experiences of my life.

Tried this place for takeout dinner and it was absolutely fantastic! The flavors were delicious and they adjust based on your spice preference which was perfect...will be coming back and recommend it for great prices and flavorful Indian!

It felt like the perfect chance to try some dishes we don't usually order while getting a good deal. Overall, the Restaurant Week menu was a solid value (up to $18 worth of extra food). While the dishes we ordered didn't quite beat our usual favorites, everything was still tasty. The restaurant itself is clean and well ventilated. It's also baby-friendly--they have high chairs, and although it can get a bit loud when busy, our little one didn't seem to mind at all. Big bonus points for convenient onsite parking with validation. It was freezing out, so being able to park and walk right in was a huge plus. The staff were very professional. One dish came out undercooked, and our server fixed it immediately. The Restaurant Week drink specials were just okay--I'd probably skip those next time. Since Thanal is already a regular in our takeout rotation, we'll definitely be ordering again soon. I'd also happily dine in again during the next Restaurant Week.

The other dishes our table also ordered include Gobi Manchurian, Chapati Murg Tikk, Murg Adraki, garlic naan, onion naan, butter naan, butter chicken, Malai kofta, and Lachha Paratha. While I loved everything, butter chicken was my favorite. Butter naan was also melt-in-your-mouth good, and I simply couldn't get enough of it. What also tops the experience overall was the Mango Lassi drink. For some reason, I never got to try this drink until today. At the first sip, I couldn't believe how good it was. I soooo loved this slightly sweet, tangy, and aromatically wonderful mango drink so much that I must have more of it at the next chance I get. Service here is no frills yet adequate and professional. Our server was helpful in catering to our needy requests (we had to return butter chicken back initially since it was too spicy), and he definitely ran the show solo as he's the only one who manned the dining area while we were there with another table today. Since the place is a bit small and cozy, I liked that it provided an intimate setting for a get-together with friends or family. I wouldn't mind returning to Saffron to try out more of their other dishes soon.

We found parking in a lot right beside the building. The staff was friendly and patient with my questions. I appreciated that they had spice levels since we had a mix of people wanting their food mild and spicy. The buffet looked appealing and the seating areas were clean. The inside was nice and pretty big. I imagine they are packed during busier times. We were taking our order to go, but the buffet looks like a good time. We ordered Veggie Samosas, Paneer Makhni - cheese cubes cooked in a tomato sauce with butter [gluten-free], mild and spicy Butter Chicken (Makhni) tender pieces of chicken tandoori cooked in a fresh tomato sauce with butter [gluten-free] and Chicken Tandoori half chicken marinated in yogurt and herbs, then barbecued [gluten-free]. Some plain naan and for dessert Gulab Jamun home-made milk-balls dipped in honey syrup. I really enjoyed the flavors of the spicy Chicken Makhni. The meat was tender and the tomato sauce had a range of spices that made it hard to say when! The chicken tandoori had nice flavors too, but the meat was a tad dry. The Paneer was good, but the star of the show was the Chicken Makhni. Throw some rice and mint chutney in with the chicken makhni and naan .... Happiness .... I would love to return to try a Biryani. The Gulab Jamun was a miss. It lacked the syrup flavor I'm used to. The pricing was around $33 per person for what we ordered. There were leftovers. I would recommend ordering ahead as the wait time was a bit long. Everyone was stuffed and happy that we tried New Delhi. I'd repeat more often if I lived in the area.

The chicken tandoori momos were fried and slightly crispy with a really delicious chili oil. Finally, the goat jhol momos were probably my favorite momo filling (I love lamb and it was so flavorful), and they paired great with the spicy tomato-y broth, though it still came behind the absolute best jhol momos I've had in Queens NY. Last thing we ordered was a lychee lassi, which was lighter than other thick yogurt-y lassis I've had and more akin to the East Asian drink Yakult, but it was so sweet and refreshing!
