Hands down, the BEST Indian food in the city. That's it. We're thrilled to have them in our neighborhood. Philly has been lucky enough to have great Indian cuisine for years, so no shade on (most) of the other joints. Turmeric raises the bar, however, and we cannot recommend it highly enough. The saag paneer, turmeric fish curry, and the most amazing goat vindaloo are recent highlights. They are not wheelchair accessible as of writing, so we have only done takeout and cannot comment on the table service and ambience, all of our staff interactions have been friendly and professional, even when they were in the weeds. I would have given a five star rating if it wasn't so warm in the restaurant. They had the windows open and it wasaroubd 90 degrees outside. The service was quick and attentive. The food was better than expected. The samosas were crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. The potatoes and peas inside were mixed with fresh herbs and it complimented each other. The green chutney on the side was my favorite. It was so fresh and verdant. The butter chicken wings were fall off the bone delicious. I could have just eaten them. The Tumeric curry goat was just as flavorful with fall off the bone goodness as well. The mango lassi hit all the notes in the hot weather. Turmeric has a great location on Spring Garden Street where there aren't too many other Indian restaurants in the area. It's a pretty small space inside so I imagine that most of their orders are takeout or delivery. I ordered takeout. The person at the register was really nice and the restaurant looked clean when I walked in to pick up my order. However, I was really not impressed with the food or the prices. I ordered goat biryani and a chicken curry. Overall small portion sizes, not much meat in their non-veg curry dishes nor in their biryani, and high prices for the amount and quality of the food. Meat in the biryani was mostly bones, and the meat itself was dry. I won't be back. The best thing this restaurant has going for it is the location. read more

Turmeric Indian Kitchen boasts great service and has a really cute interior! It hits the spot and is reasonably priced. I dined as a party of two for dinner. Honestly, I've walked by the building many times and haven't tried it because it looked a little uninviting. However, the inside was very warm and cozy. I honestly also really enjoyed the tablecloths- they made me feel fancy! The food all came out quick and piping hot. We tailored spice level and I felt the mild was a true mild spice, while my friend felt the spicy was not spicy enough! Here are my highlights: - Garlic Naan: The garlic naan was really delicious in terms of seasoning. I liked to rip them in half, so I had more dip to naan ratio. I would re-order these for sure. - Uthappam: I really enjoyed the uthappam, but I wish it was a tiny bit crispier on more of the edges. I thought the tomato chutney dipping sauce with the uthappam was phenomenal while I didn't really enjoy the sambar as much since there were some little hard veggie bits. - Chicken Kale Saag: I also really enjoyed the kale saag portion of the dish. I could eat a bucket of it. I wish the chicken was juicier since they were TOUGH. Next time, I'd order with paneer instead. - Gobi Manchurian: I typically love this dish, but found it was more soggy than crispy, like I'm used to. The flavor was good so I would still re-order this. Hungry Sunday night, we came across Turmeric Indian Kitchen. I haven't had Indian food in a while and was so glad we dined here because it was a great experience. The ambiance was nice and cozy. We were immediately seated. The server was nice and attentive the entire time. It's BYOB, and we brought in a Prosecco rosé bottle for the evening. We ordered the garlic naan. I can just stop right there. Best naan ever! For an appetizer, we tried the samosa -- hot and full of flavor! For the entrée, I ordered the mild honey garlic shrimp with basmati rice, which was good. I'm not a spicy person, but I should have requested more spice. Still satisfying. We ended with dessert and ordered kheer (rice pudding), which tasted good. I ordered delivery after a long day and am so glad I finally tried Turmeric. I only ordered one dish, and it was something I had never tried before, but I would order it again. I ordered the Cabbage Poriyal with mild spice, and it was delicious. The cabbage was thinly sliced and lentils melted into the sauce. Heads up- the description does not mention potatoes, but there were several chunks in there. That didn't bother me, but if you have an allergy or aversion, it's something you should know. The menu didn't make it clear if the dish came with rice, so I ordered some but didn't need to. I will definitely order from Turmeric again to try more menu options. read more

First of all, Handry Carvalho was a delightful surprise, a server but more, knowledgeable about the region the food originated in and the food itself. Second, the food. Indian is my favorite. The naan here was out of this world (naan of the above!). I loved their take on Chicken Korma with the subtle addition of apricot. My last night in Philadelphia and guess where I'm heading back? Turmeric as a spice is a beautiful bronze color that typifies the best of Indian cuisine. As a dietary supplement it offers health benefits to joints, heart and cognitive function. As a restaurant at 12th and Spring Garden Street, Tumeric Indian Kitchen offers a small corner oasis of south Asian food that is comfortable and delicious. I found the appetizers (Gobi Manchurian, Samosa Chaat) more interesting than the mains (Apricot Chicken Korma, Tumeric Chicken Tikka). The Gobi was lightly crisp with a pleasant sweet/chili profile that was addictive, and the street food star Chaat that allows the chef to throw in a variety of crunchy snacks that amuses as it strikes all the right tastebuds. Yet, the Apricot Chicken Korma while tender chicken and nice mellow yellow sauce, lacked the mild sweetness of other kormas and left me wondering why I couldn't taste a hint of apricot. Liked it, but I was hoping for something more rad. Their Chicken Tikka was chunks of right out of the tandoori roast chicken over a bed of red and green vegetable slivers, but without sauce. The bird was the focus, and could have been more with something interesting to blend with. We can forgive forgetting the Garlic Naan until we finally reminded them of it, because when we got it, it was hot steaming and a strong dipper for the remaining korma gravy. Love that Tumeric Indian Kitchen is only two blocks from my son's house, and that it certainly enriches the neighborhood. It is actually the second Goa house on this stretch of Spring Garden. The gobi Manchurian and anjeer kofta were absolutely delicious. I don't normally see anjeer kofta on the menu at Indian restaurants in Philly, so I definitely suggest trying it from here. The reviews were raving about the garlic naan but it was weirdly sticky by the time it got to me after I ordered delivery, so maybe it tastes better dining in. read more

LITERALLY, this is now my favorite Indian Restaurant in Philadelphia. I've lived in Philly since 2006. I've been to many Indian restaurants all over West, South, Olde, Center city and the Northeast as well. Do you know how nice it is to finally have a definitive favorite Indian restaurant in Philly since Indeblue left? And if you like the dosas at Amma's in Philly (they are excellent) this place can match it. If an Indian restaurant offers Mysore dosa or Masala dosa, I'll generally gravitate towards that. I haven't tried that yet here cuz their Spring Garden dosa I keep getting! Tumeric has your standards of North Indian "ceremonial" cuisine (Kofta, Saag Paneer, Butter Chicken, Dal Makhani, etc) and it's crazy how much more flavor per bite you get at Tumeric compared to other Indian restaurants. I purposely got the Cabbage Poriyal because that's a dish I've never had at a restaurant or at someone's home. Wow. They can even elevate cabbage as the star of a dish. Last I'll end with this insane compliment: You could drop Tumeric in Edison, NJ and it could easily compete against the best Indian restaurants there. read more

From the moment you walk in and are met with the wonder smell of Indian spices, you know food is going to be delicious! Turmeric Indian Kitchen is an amazing dining experience. The shrimp offerings are over the top tasty! Spices are right on with extraordinary flavor. We enjoyed Honey Garlic Shrimp and Shrimp Cabbage Poriyal, medium spice. Just the right amount of heat. Also had Garlic Naan and Cheese Naan. Both were a delightful accompaniment to the shrimp. The Chai tea was the best I have ever had. The ambience is relaxing and comfortable. Very attentive and friendly staff. Run don't walk to this dining experience! I highly recommend, this is the best Indian food I have ever had! We walked from our hotel across from The Reading Terminal, it was only a 15 minute walk. We don't have Indian food in our area ware from so we went a little overboard ordering and everything we had was amazing! We had the apricot chicken korma (chef's kiss) my wife had the chicken tikka masala. We also had the cheese and garlic naan, yum! I can't remember the other two side dish's we had but one had chickpeas and the other had cottage cheese like squares with peas and it was delightful. My wife had the lemongrass masala chia tea (hot) and I had iced tea both were delightful! We also had an order of dosa (plain) it was very good! The mango chutney was my favorite that I've had at an Indian restaurant! Like I said my wife just kept ordering. We took a ton of left overs home and if it is anything American chili it will be even better tomorrow after all the spices meld together. The place is nicely decorated with black table clothes and brightly colored napkins. The seating is a little limited but we had no problem getting right in. They had 3 tables that seat 4 and then a larger table for like 8-10 and then they had bar seating in front of the windows so if you're a solo person you could sit there. read more
