This place rules. Best Indian in West Philly (I've tried them all) and among the best in the city. The curries are fantastic and made with more care than you might find elsewhere - they feel a little lighter maybe? My friend recommended this place and I stopped by for a casual dinner, so i had moderate expectations going into the meal. The food blew me away and I was super impressed by everything. Their chicken vindaloo was such spicy and flavorful, but the best curry was their korma which was creamy, nutty, and perfectly spiced being the best korma i have ever tasted. Their grilled tikka chicken cubes were also delicious expertly grilled and carried a nice smokey char that went well with their chutneys. Their naans were also delicious, but it was their onion naan that stood out because it was super chewy and thick and held the curries and grilled meat quite well. Honestly the only down aspect or average part of the meal was their samosas which i found to be a bit over spiced but acceptable and tasty nonetheless but far from the best. Found this hidden gem while looking for Indian/Pakistani food in the area. We tried the chicken biryani and the samosa, and it turned out great, the taste and the spices. Because of busy schedules, my Mother's Day celebration was postponed about 3 weeks. All good with me because we ended up here, with a bottle of red and a bottle of white and delicious Indian food! Butter chicken, chicken biryani, chicken tikka masala and red snapper made it to our table along with fried vegetable fritters and 2 veggie samosas. All so very good! The food is fresh and the chicken is tender and the sauces are so good and complex! We enjoyed our food, the sweetest service and a complimentary dish of gulab jamun. Solid, no frills, affordable and delicious Indian food. I have gotten takeout from here a couple times now and it is super solid. Naan is fresh, hot and fluffy. The chicken in the butter chicken and tikka masala is always tender and fresh. The curries are so flavorful. The people are super friendly. It is also pretty cheap for Indian food. Be warned: there are three spice levels and the highest level is very very spicy, probably the spiciest Indian food I've ever had. They do not mess around with the spice. Great new addition to west Philly! Probably the best lamb chops I have had out side of home and I said the same thing in my reel on Instagram! We were extremely happy with our visit, it's a clean atmosphere with both outdoor and indoor seating, the food is fresh, flavorful and appetizing. We had a lovely chat with the owner and are looking forward to future visits. The desserts were amazing too! *ordered via DoorDash* I was craving paneer and wanted to try a new Indian place. I saw other people in my building order from here so decided to give it a try and I'm so glad I did. BEST INDIAN FOOD IN PHILLY! The paneer tikka masala was so good, so flavorful. Medium spicy was perfect for me. DId anyone hear Yelp is dying? So I write this review for the ether! I was going to award Char House five stars but I hesitated because I have only tried it once based on a review on The Infatuation, another review site of the moment. Truthfully I found it perfect (insofar as delievery can be). Delicious food selected from a menu large enough to satisfy whatever craving I had, robustly and securely packaged. Maybe I was in a good mood? I have tried all the leading suspects in the Center City area, and for one reason or the other none either stood out or didn't gross me out in some way. I rarely go to Indian restaurants in person so obviously I don't appreciate the virtues of decor or service that some of the fancier ones offer. Also I neither have the credentials to judge Indian food "authentic", nor do most any of the restaurants dig too deeply into India's glorious regional styles and types of food that one can discover in places like Edison or in Manhattan's Curry Hill (is that what it is called?). This stood out. The chicken wings were exceptional, I feel silly writing that but they were. I am giving four stars because I tried so few things on the menu in one dinner. There will be future orders definitely and if they continue to be this reliable I will adjust my rating up. I actually would compare them to Kabobeesh, with a very meat-centric menu, but Char House is much, much, much higher quality. We will see. read more

My husband and I moved to the area last year and this has become our go-to place for a quick, reliable, reasonably priced weeknight dinner. Takeout orders are always ready quickly even on busy nights, and they've never gotten our order wrong. My favorites are the chilli paneer, samosa chaat, saag paneer, and the spring rolls. The masala fries are great too, and the garlic and cheese paneer is so good we add it to every order. Everything is always fresh and delicious. I decided to order dinner from this decent restaurant for the first time on 3/8/24. When I say it was finger licking good; there is no lie in that. I ordered through DoorDash and my driver was quick with delivery service. When I received my food everything was as described from the menu. Everything was also a first try except the Naan, which is one of my favorites when it comes to Indian cuisine. The Quail was exquisite especially paired with the Turmeric spices; that's one dish I will be ordering again. Lastly the "tasty" Pakoras. My brother went to a neighborhood restaurant, Indian Char House, located at 4612 Woodland Ave Philadelphia, PA 19143. He brought some butter chicken. I'm his taste tester. The dish butter chicken. OMG what a treat. It was wonderful. I'd decided not to cook for thanksgiving because I wanted the butter chicken. So, on thanksgiving, the store was open, and I'm hungry. Secret, never buy food when you are hungry. I purchased butter chicken, 6 Piece Shrimp Chili, and chicken Biryani for my brother. Oh yeah 2 Piece Veggie Samosa. It was the new Thanksgiving dinner. The lentil soup is deliciously complex. I really hesitated to order this one, but am very glad I did. My only feedback is, I would like little bit larger serving. The chicken was perfection fresh cook to order. It came out in a sizzling plate. The chicken was moist with the perfect level of seasonings. Sometimes you get dried out chicken but not here!! The chef had a special vegetable side. If they have this option- Get it!! It is a medley of veggies, peas, carrots, cauliflower and broccoli sautéed in a favorable sauce. The naan bread is the only item that was just OK. I like my naan in the thicker side with lots of garlic and ghee. But those who prefer for thinner naan lightly garlicky- this is for you.
