My son has had a complete attitude change since joining Curtis karate. The sensais not only incorporate sportsmanship, respect, and discipline in the studio during class, but make sure they stay accountable at home and school as well. If they aren't carrying on what they are learning in class to home and school they wont be able to move up a belt and advance. Curtis karate has had a huge impact on both of my kids in the way of respect, discipline, work ethic and their desire to just be good. Sensei Will and Sensei Jesse are both exceptionally good at dealing with children and their teaching mechanisms are well above par. Curtis Karate is an amazing dojo. Both of my kids are on the autism spectrum, and they've been attending for about 2 1/2 years now. My older son, who is introverted and very shy, didn't want to go at first, but by the end of his trial class, he surprised me by saying, "Sign me up!" I couldn't believe it. My younger son, also very shy, didn't want to join the school program but opted for private lessons instead. After his first lesson, he told me to "sign him up for life." What sets Curtis Karate apart is how much they focus on building self-esteem while teaching valuable self-defense skills. The instructors give the kids the courage to keep pushing, even when they want to give up, because they know each child has it in them to be their best. I've recommended this dojo to several friends, and a few of their kids have joined as well. The staff is incredible--they greet every child by name and treat everyone like family. They even go beyond the dojo; if I'm concerned about my kids' behavior at home, the instructors take the time to talk to them and encourage better choices. They have private lessons. 5 classes basic,black belt,swat,Strom and advanced Strom team . They teach everything like jujitsu karate things like that. Do NOT sign up with this place payed in full. My boys ended up not liking it due to the overcrowding of kids per class, the name calling (sissy lala) and our schedule also was no longer able to accommodate. I called and talked to the owner who offered to let me cancel with a very high cancellation fee but when I agreed he said he had to call his wife and he would get back to me. When he called me back he said they wouldn't give me a refund for the unused portion of the 3 months we had signed up for even though the kids only went a handful of times in one month and that he would extend my membership through the year. My boys are not comfortable going so how does extending my membership help? Watch out they will keep your money! They claim to teach values and character but their business ethic doesn't reflect this. On a good note, I believe his name was Sensei Will was amazing at getting the boys to go out and participate even though they were extremely hesitant to participate the couple times we did go. read more

I can't say enough about Curtis Karate. I attend their adult class and am constantly shocked at how great of a workout it is and the amazing sense of unity I feel during the class. I originally joined for self defense purposes and now I am hooked and grateful for the amazing dojo family I have gained. I have been lucky enough to see my niece at her peewee class and it's so heart warming to see how gentle and patient the senseis are with the little ones. All of the senseis exude kindness, knowledge, and set an amazing example as to how the kids should act in and out of the dojo. Ten out of ten recommend! My kids have been coming here for the last 3 years. My oldest has had tremendous progress and personal growth because they hold her accountable for her actions and behavior outside of the dojo. As a military family, we don't always have that same support that other families here and Curtis Karate has become a second family to us. I know I can count on them to be involved in my daughter's life. They call us if we miss to see if we are okay. They absolutely care about all of their kids. After multiple business days, the owner made an extremely poor attempt at an apology, using every excuse to deflect his actions, then invalidating my daughter's words and injury all together. Stating his staff wasn't aware, when they were, and even made modifications to the drills for her last day. He refused to take full accountability for his disgusting behavior towards a child. He had also ended the email, asking me to take down my review after he blamed his staff. Shows that he is only wanting to run a business, not take care of your child/children and teach them character building and be accountable for his own behavior. However, it is here (at Curtis Karate) that they learn to be kind people with good character. They learn to be respectful at home and out in the community. My daughter did the character counts program at her school and she was excited. But she was never called on to break a board, never called up for anything. The sensei called on the same few kids everytime. She completed the program and went to the pizza party where we still considered signing up. During the demonstration the sensei still called on the same exact kids from the program. We did all the homework, I wrote letters every week to consider her for the gift card and trophy but he picked the same few kids to recognize and it was predictable who was winning the prize as he had his favorites in mind already. I am happy we didn't waste our money here and they served small portions of cold pizza at the end. Yuck. We will look for a better program where everyone gets a chance to excel. read more

Curtis Karate is the most legitimate martial arts studio in the Temecula Valley. I speak from experience. I trained in martial for more than 20 years out of a dojo in Riverside, CA. I also had the opportunity to teach and train with Sensei Jesse Curtis our of that same dojo. What Jesse has built in Temecula is truly impressive. Of course the martial arts is the key focus but he has put an emphasis on character building. This includes basic manners (please, thank you, sir, ma'am) as well as respect for others and integrity. He not only teaches these life principles, he lives and leads by them as well. My son trained with Jesse for a couple years before moving on to football. Jesse also uses his platform to help enrich the lives of elementary aged school children all over Murrieta and Temecula. He works with the schools/districts to provide after school lessons periodically which exposes those who can't afford monthly payments at a dojo to entry level martial arts as well as the character building he teaches. Curtis Karate is an amazing place for kids ages 0-99 The instructors are amazing! My son is 6 and he looks forward to going to Karate every single week. They have multiple instructors so when there is a child who's not doing the exercises correctly or needs additional support they jumó in to assist. The place is very clean and after each class they clean the mats. Their prices really can't be beat. I had looked around for karate classes prior to finding Curtis Karate and I had come close to giving up. Every place charges over $200 for 1 session per week. With half the cost, I take my son 2 times per week! They also give you the opportunity to reschedule a class if you miss for whatever reason. Honestly, look no further!
