My 9 year old son has been in Taekwondo/Karate for about a year. Here it's not just a business, it's family and teamwork. Master Chaney is amazing. True Caring! She spent 3.5 hours with us on our first orientation visit! You have to understand that this set is about self discipline and to teach that to anyone you need to set ground rules and stick to them. I visited a total of 5 karate schools before deciding on this one for my two boys. Having practiced martial arts before to include a 5 year stint in Okinawa, Japan, I was looking for a certain feel in the school. Not that there was anything wrong with the other schools, like I said, I just knew what I wanted. Master Chaney's understanding of children's different learning styles was impressive. He could see the difference in personalities between my sons and knew just how to address both. And Mrs Chaney is very warm but very firm in her teaching. I didn't want my kids just taking "lessons", they needed to be a part of a school. The Chaney's teach camraderie, respect, as well as Martial Arts. And from what I've seen the last few months, they're not giving anything away. The students have to earn it. I've already seen the progress in my kids. They have close circuit TV in one room over, to watch the class while I work on my laptop, compliments of the free wi-fi they offer. We stumbled upon Bob Chaney's Martial arts at the beginning of the year. We were looking for a place that would be more than a karate class, not just another face in their class, but a class that was more personable. I searched numerous websites, read reviews, and ultimately scheduled the initial 2 day private lessons with Master Chaney. I am a very over barring mom, I never leave or trust my kids with anyone, HOWEVER, upon meeting Master Chaney I seen the love and dedication she has for her students, and the studio. She is stern, but loving and gentle when need be. She treats every student with respect, and instills respect and manners with all students. Master Chaney knows every student on a personal level, and I was impressed with how fast she picked up on strengthens and weaknesses my kids had. We chose to put our kids in Martial arts one to build more confidence and for the other as a form release of built up aggression. We have two children who are polar opposites, and Master Chaney noticed right away and helps each student individually without catering. I'm not sure how she balances everything out, but she does. She is an amazing teacher, and I know how much she loves and cares of each student and those around her. I've seen my children grow in confidence, they are more dedicated to task they take on, they've learned more life lessons in self defense and being aware of surrounds. I've seen my kids so focused and eager to learn more in Marital arts. They are constantly perfecting their moves, always trying to do better. This place is a gem. Great class options for literally ALL! Master Chaney treats you like family and we consider her part of ours. This is so important as most studios are about money which leads to an overpopulated class and no relationships with the student or parents. Her training not only includes the traditional techniques of Muay Thai but also focuses heavily on skill building drills to develop body awareness, strength, agility, and flexibility. We also appreciate her way of coaching/expectations. She is firm but fair. In this day and age with children being overly coddled this is so refreshing. I love how we also have the choice of how many days a week we can come to the studio. Other gyms my daughter has been to have limited us to only 2-3 times a week. Being able to come everyday allows my daughter to gain experience quickly. The changes I have seen in my daughter in the short time she has been here are significant. Her confidence and perseverance have really shown through. I love that she is learning teamwork and how hard work truly does pay off. read more

I am only writing this review here because I contacted them in regards to this matter and never recieved a response. This is an e-mail I sent to them in regards to my experience: We were in your training site last week with my son Steven. Just wanted to contact you and let you know I have been feeling upset because of the way you treated my son on the second day of his evaluation. I did not appreciate you shushing son from the moment we entered the building to the moment we left. I know he talks a lot but you had no right to tell my son to shut up not once but twice and in my face. I feel so stupid for staying and let you work with my son for another 20 minutes after that, the only think I wanted to do was to get get him and get out of your studio but I stayed and let him finish. I do not know if you remember but I asked you if you tell the kids to ship up and you said NO, but I know you did say it to my son, may be you did not mean to but those were the words that came out of your mouth and that was not OK. I should had told you on that day how I felt but I didn't and I have to live with the fact I let a complete stranger disrespect my son in front of my, but that will not happen again. I know Steven talks a lot but you had no right on treating him like that. Even though you school was out of price range for what we wanted to spend I was considering making the effort to pay for the classes because he has been asking about attending karate school for so long but how I am going to take him there now? Lastly, I would really appreciate if you will refund me the money I paid ($30) because I do not think is fear you charged me to treat my son like that. read more

My oldest son has been with Bob Chaney Martial Arts for almost 4 years (he started when he was 3 as little ninja), and I think this was the best decision we have ever made. My son has come a long way with proper karate techniques, but he has learned much more than this: attitude, confidence, focus, conflict resolution, respect to adults and his peers as well as self-respect. Their Tiny Tumbling Ninjas class, tailored specifically for 3-6 year olds, was a great fit for my 4.5 year old and he loves attending class. If you're in the Temecula area I highly recommend this Martial Arts training facility. They offer Muay Thai, Karate, Tae kwon do, and Boxing. They offer classes for three years old and up. I am beyond thankful that we picked Bob Chaney Martial Arts Studio for our 7 year old son to begin his lessons. New to the area, and I decided to give it a try, based solely on all of the wonderful reviews I'd read. I am 100% sure I made the right decision. Mrs. Chaney is a wonderful instructor, teaching proper technique for the martial arts. But she teaches them so much more...family, responsibility, discipline, listening, love, helping one another. My son was instantly accepted into the class by the other children. He loves Mrs Chaney. And he is so proud of himself after accomplishing something that he originally thought was too complicated to perform. He's come such a long way, and I am so pleased and proud watching him succeed. We moved here in April of last year and did some searching around, well actually my husband chose Bob Chaney martial arts after reading lots of positive reviews and after calling several studios. My husband really liked his conversation with Sarinda Chaney, the owner of Bob Chaney Martial Arts studio, who is also the "little ninja" instructor and a 7th° back belt herself. We would later find out she was actually a grade school principal back in Taiwan. The studio is very legitimate with high end equipment and lots of awards, trophies, and photos of both Sarinda, and her late husband Bob Chaney, with Chuck Norris and other well known martial artists. But what we love the most about the studio is that it is very family oriented. You too will experience this on your first one-on-one private lesson (this is necessary to assess your child's skill level before enrolling, also so you can get a feel for the studio). It was only $35 but it was really fun and she gave us an assessment at the end about our son's muscular and motor skill development, etc., she really seemed to have a plan. The studio even has young children practicing real martial arts, it's not just games for the young ones; the young kids start learning how to throw punches and kicks and fall and protect themselves pretty soon into their training. And Sarinda has some special ability with children to command their attention; they respect her. She is very disciplined and she will keep them very focused; even if you have a kid who's usually clingy you'll be able to drop them off and they instantly know they're in her charge. It's amazing! We tried other karate studios in LA and found nothing that our son took two as quickly as this studio. He actually used to cry and run back to us whenever we would bring him to karate practice in LA (he had just turned four at that time, now he's five), but here it's all business and yes ma'am's as soon as we walk in door We signed him up for two years because we loved the way Sarinda worked with our son. There are also fun events like karate on the beach, karate tournaments that even the young ones can participate in. read more
