The property is beautiful and very well maintained, and the staff is wonderful. You can tell they genuinely enjoy their jobs, which makes the whole experience even more pleasant. Check-in was quick and easy. The rooms are a bit outdated in style, but they are very clean and comfortable. I do wish the bathroom had been a little larger and that it didn't have a shower curtain instead of a glass door. Housekeeping is not provided daily, but you can request fresh linens and amenities each day, and they will be delivered to your room. Overall, it's fairly priced, great for families, with plenty of parking and lots of nearby services. I would definitely recommend it for anyone visiting the area.

Whether you are a retired couple, family, or young honeymooners- this place is a great place to stay in Custer. The staff was so friendly. There were so many family-centered activities to be outside and enjoy and we tried to take advantage of all of It! Outdoor and indoor pools, a full wall of board and card games and books, an outdoor fire pit setting to enjoy, chalk and jump ropes, a nice outdoor walking trail in nature, ball courts with balls. Our absolute favorite was ordering the cookies and milk bedtime delivery. This was something we could surprise our little kids with that they thought was so magical. Thank you for helping us build such special family memories!!

We arrived a few hours early and the only negative was they couldn't take us in right away (strict 3 o'clock arrival). Thankfully, we found parking in Custer and really enjoyed Mt. Rushmore Brewery (I have a really good review coming shortly). The campground is beautiful, clean and well kept and staff is friendly according to my wife. A few sites are tricky, but doable, with limited full hook-ups. The dump is located on the opposite side of the rig so if you're leaving the lower campground, you may need 2 dump hoses. Some of the hook-ups are located on the opposite of the standard rv rig. The other parks we checked out on our walk through town are not as nice as this. The Black Hills up towards Rushmore seem crowded (obviously) but super nice.

The Roost Resort has a genuinely nice physical setup -- well-maintained grounds and facilities. Unfortunately, our visit was marred by how the visitor fee was enforced. We drove 300+ miles each way to visit family staying at the resort. Saturday we paid the $10/car visitor fee without issue, though it came with a long lecture about costs, being a mom-and-pop operation, and "registered guests only" on the walk to the office. We left around 8:30pm, invited back for breakfast, and stayed overnight 40 miles away at another resort. We returned Sunday ~8:30am. By 9:30am the owner (Sheila) came back for a second fee. I asked if it worked like a motel checkout window since we'd be leaving soon. She charged the full fee anyway and repeated the same lecture -- for at least the 4th time. She mentioned being a 5-star resort; when I mentioned I'd leave a review, she took it as a threat. We were accused of using the shower house (false -- we'd showered elsewhere). When my cousin's husband mentioned being a disabled veteran, she accused him of "playing that card," described her own health condition, and threatened to call police. My cousin was told to vacate 2 days early, with 3 hours' notice. There's a difference between hospitality and running a hospitality business. A resort this nice deserves an owner who understands that difference.

She gave us the run down on best places to eat and things to do, which was very helpful. Having previously stayed at The Bavarian Inn just up the road, we reached out to discover that they, among others, were closed. The owners mentioned their new property in town, EO Bungalows, and how they were offering enhanced cleaning and contactless check-in/out. This combination was perfect for us and we booked one night. This location features four private units with ensuite bathrooms and a common courtyard. Parking is curbside and you're just one block off the main strip, making the location very walkable. The units themselves are wonderful. Nicely furnished with very comfortable beds; a kitchette with everything you need including a toaster; a bathroom with an incredible steam shower, dimmable lighting in all areas and artwork that creates a wonderful, peaceful atmosphere. We drive an electric car and found convenient free charging available at the local Chamber of Commerce just two blocks away. We had dinner on The Custer Wolf's patio and enjoyed our first restaurant meal in months. Thanks EO Bungalows! We'll be back... looking forward to the next Tesla rally, whenever that is.

There were a few issues...but they were manageable since I wasn't staying in the room alone. Trouble 1) When showering, you can't reach the shower controls while sitting on the shower bench. I keep seeing this in hotels, I'm not sure what they expect you to do. Most people who need a shower bench can't stand up and get the controls! Trouble 2) Tiny little closet rod, difficult to get to behind the table & chairs (and the bathroom door). It's low, to make it an accessible height, but so difficult to reach that it was almost not worth even trying! Trouble 3) Table and chairs in the room would be nice if we were cooking in our room & such, but since we weren't they were really just in the way. The table was too small to pull under when in a wheelchair anyway. Their location meant that I couldn't reach the kitchenette area anyway. If I'd been staying alone I'm not sure how I would have handled the shower, and I would have requested that staff remove the table & chairs. Just thought I'd warn other wheelchair users so they can make an informed decision. The bed was adequately comfortable, water pressure was great, the room a little noisy due to the proximity of the ice-room & the parking lot. Overall - could have been better, but could have been much worse - at least i was able to get in and out! :)
