Custom Air is the only A/C service I use, at least twice a year for tune-ups.

In the summer of 2023, our young AC unit stopped working, and after getting a quote from Blaze, we decided to call around. Total Heating & Cooling was quick to respond and check on our unit. They quoted a repair cost of nearly half the ever-popular purple and orange-clad vans you see zooming around. It was a strange repair, especially on a young unit, and required an entire compressor and freon replacement. They completed it, and we were back in business before we knew it. Everyone was kind, courteous, and quick to respond. We highly recommend them.

Update 8/10/18 - After 5 years, we are going elsewhere. They have changed their contract rules…read more Previously if you had a contract and had issues between services, you weren't required to pay for diagnostic service call (only repairs). When I called to ask why the change I was told because some people abused it and called for no reason so now we offer discount on service. That's disheartening for someone like us who hasn't abused the policy. I understand people abuse policies so changes can be necessary. I don't agree with how it was changed. Punishing all for the problems of a few doesn't seem right. If I were putting suggestions in their box, it would be - "if repairs are needed, diagnostics are waived". If not, then diagnostics are charged. Seems that's a more fair solution. Matt mentioned below is no longer there either. This is no fault of his or THC. If they change their policy to something more fair for all customers instead of punishing loyal ones that didn't abuse the policy, we would consider going back. The things that gave them 5* are no longer a part of their business model, so my review has changed and we are going elsewhere. ****old review*** A++ for the techs at Total H/C. Especially Matt. He came by for our service while we were out of town. My mother/grandmother were staying at the house with the kids. He found we had an issue and that we would need to call someone else for help. Since they aren't from here and my grandmother is 90 she was scared that the heat may go out. My mom was making plans to try to get help and the afternoon rolls around and they get a knock on the door. Matt had come back with someone else and they were able to fix the problem and ease their mind. Above and beyond. Thanks to them for such dedication and great customer service!!

When service is requested they are quick to respond and send someone out to see what the problem may be. Phil and Andrew are great at what they do and the value is great, very reasonable. If you're looking for an HVAC company that's dependable and reliable contact them asap, you won't be disappointed.

I agreed and Phil got someone out very quickly that day, the service technicians name was Andrew. Andrew diagnosed the issue and stated to me when I asked how much the repair would cost all included "around $1400" including freon, labor and the failed part which should be warrantable. I called Phil a few hours later on Monday the 9th the to see what the estimate was and was told I'd have it soon. Fast forward to the following monday March 16th, i received no quote and had to reach back out to Phil again. Phil texted me a quote, no parts and labor break down, just a number that was approx. 40% higher ($2030) than what his employee stated to me. I asked for details and when Phil gave them to me I stated to Phil i was not interested in his service. Phil hung up on me. Phil then texted me and said I owe $160 for the diagnosis. I asked Phil to show me in writing where I agreed to that number, Phil responded "someone may have forgotten to tell you about the $50 leak check fee". Phil then stated I can pay the $110 via Square. I feel like Phil and Triple A HVAC service attempted to take advantage of me as a consumer. I will not use their services and would highly recommend anyone who is looking at using them to be very careful and make sure you get everything in writing from this business prior to giving them any type of payment.

I called around and the best I could find was an appointment tomorrow morning with a base cost of $80 just to show up. I found A Plus on Yelp and called James, who was able to come out right away and check out the unit. He diagnosed a bad capacitor and had it replaced and the coils cleaned within a few minutes, and for much less than the quote I got from the other well-known local service. James was friendly and easy to work with. Fast work and good work, highly recommended!

He came out and found the issue, stated the parts needed to repair and that he needed the money upfront to purchase the parts. Once he received the money, he started stalling and making up excuses as to why he hadn't gotten the part or when he'd be able to come back out. He will ask for cash or to use PayPal so he can take the money and not complete the service. He will state he's a small business owner, his truck/van is down, and a boatload of other foolery to make you think he's legit. Do not trust anything he says or hire him for any work. He will take your money and not complete the job - and the give excuses like his mom passed away and how hard it is for him. He will sound legit initially and the go ghost. He will say he's purchased the parts and will come complete the work - then not show up and continually text that he'll be there. Consumers in Burlington and Al surrounding areas should beware of this foolery. Unprofessional scam artist - do not use this clown!
