This business discriminates. I am a FEMALE and tried to book an appointment. I was asked during scheduling if my HUSBAND would be there to make decisions for me. I replied I make decisions for myself and booked the appointment for a replacement window. A simple replacement window. I received a call 20 minutes later from the man due to come out telling me basically he needed my HUSBAND there to make the decisions because it would be complicated and I might not understand it all. I told him I was fully capable of choosing a replacement window myself and my children were home. He argued with me to which I said deal w me or no one he said best of luck. I called back, asked for owner, received another call from another person assuring me it wasn't discrimination. No call from owner yet. Will call until I get one. Second caller did try to de escalate the situation and did say he heard the first caller. I have NEVER posted a negative review. All over a window. read more

Could not deliver and still waiting for my down payment to be returned. They wasted my time, took my money and now they don't call me back when I am only trying to get my money back. The salesman lied when he said everything was on schedule and the door will be installed by the date stated in the contract and he said he was at the factory and saw it being manufactured. 2 days before it was to be installed, I called to see why no one called to schedule the install and was told that the door was never scheduled to be manufactured and they don't know when it will so they are cancelling the contract and refunding my $1500 down payment. This company is not professional and is disorganized. I do not recommend this company, as soon as they got my down payment, the communication stopped and getting updates was like pulling teeth. Also the sales process is all lies and a waste of your time, I feel foolish falling for it. read more

I have always worked with sales person Chris Jarvis for the last 15 years on multiple window / storm window projects at my home. Seems like there might be some other unscrupulous sales people in this organization, but Chris has always been a straight shooter with us. We've purchased over 20 windows from Custom Built - we've always been pleased with the quality of the workmanship and never felt pressured at all in the sales process. I think their doors manufacturing and ascetics are fantastic! The sales process is thorough and professional... until you get to pricing. I felt like i was dealing with a used car salesman. First quoted outrageous price that is probably twice the true value. When you show interest in product but apprehension with pricing, BAM, they knock off about 20%! But that price is a today until 5 pm price. Felt like i was buying a little old lady's car that only was used for church! Lol Finally, office rep calls 4-5 times a until you finally pick up. They mention a lower price and offer to set up another 20 minutes meeting with GM to "review" marketing discount opportunities! Seriously, i think the product is great. But the sales process is broken folks. Does not feel like a family business, feels like signing a contract w Donald Trump! Ya just know what your really getting. read more

The sales people are rude, and are nothing but liars. If I could get out of my contract before my windows were installed I would. They lie to get you to sign the paperwork and then don't follow through. My windows were supposed to be installed 12-3/1-3 for a time frame and I am scheduled after that now for install. This is after the sales guy thought I was an idiot and tried lying bout APR. Update they are installing the wrong window because the scumbag Joseph Silverman lies! read more

I found this company online. I finally had some availability to meet for a quote. I was asked repeatedly if I lived alone, significant others that needed to be involved in the decision etc. After scheduling the appointment and thinking about it, I felt uneasy. What if this was a scam to find out I'm alone and when I'm not home. I just walked in from work and he shows up. He was nice enough and I show him the 5 windows that need to be replaced. I figured I'd see their products and get a quote. NOPE. I had to see 3 or 4 other windows as he went through a book of pros and cons to build up to why their product is the best. Stopping to ask me questions, when all I wanted was options of THEIR product and a quote. He then says he wants to show me something (I lost interest far before) but first he wants to tell me how it came to be, I said No. After an hour and 30 minutes I say we need to wrap this up as I'm on call and need to walk and feed my dog and eat myself. He said "oh really, 5 minutes". What??? Another story and still no quote. Finally we get to the quote. Over 9k for 5 windows. $8500 if I say yes in 30 days but if I agree today $6850. If he leaves that low price leaves with him. I said I have a family member to discuss this with so no decisions today. I was then told I can't have the quote he wrote out, I can only take a photo. He again reminded me that once he leaves that price goes with him. I made it clear I can't agree to that price without having a conversation. He then says "well I can tell you he isn't going to want to pay that much more" as he pointed to the $2283 today discount. I didn't expect or need an hour and 45 minute explanation of why the other windows aren't as good. I wanted a quote for their product. The fact that they were willing to take $2k off Today tells me that the product is far overpriced. I would be looking at $30k bill to replace all of my home windows with this company. I have dealt with Custom Built since early 90's with my family home. As I have purchased other homes and purchased Windows, they have always improved on their product. I have on dealt with salesman Chris Jarvis. EXTREMELY knowledgeable and well versed on all available Windows on the market. The few window issues that I created have been dealt with very promptly. The biggest plus, besides quality product, is they're a local company and windows are made on the premises!! I highly suggest them. read more

14 years ago Custom Built installed new windows in our home in N. Kingstown. They still look great and work great so when we decided we wanted to replace our front door we naturally called them. Unfortunately it seems that they've changed their sales tactics from what use to be low key to high pressure. When I told them my wife couldn't be here for the appointment because she works during the day they refused to come out. Their rigidity in sticking to their "sales strategy" has not only cost them a sale but a customer in the future. I won't waste time calling them again. Very Foolish! read more

I recently purchased a house that had one missing screen. I stopped in to order a new screen and worked with Chris. Since I didn't have the original one for them to use for measurements, he explained how to measure the window, which I did but wasn't 100% sure it was accurate because I had never done it. Chris stopped by after work to measure himself to make sure I got the correct size. It was ready within a week, but unfortunately it was just slightly too small due to a mix up on their part. I called on a Friday afternoon, Chris immediately realized what happened and apologized. He had the new screen made, came to the house and put it in himself the very next day on a Saturday morning. Just based on the sales process would not recommend. Looking for a quote for 20 windows, asked for an estimate, was told I can't get one if my wife is not also present. The guy actually tried to talk me into making sure she was there. Looking at other reviews, seems like my experience isn't unique. read more

I just had my windows replaced, and I wanted simulated divided light. Custom Built did a fantastic job on the windows!! My house looks like I have historical windows and looks beautiful. We had our windows replace in June of this year by August after those torrential rain storms we had, we found water stains in our first floor ceiling and second floor bedroom where the leak is the flooring is buckled and the trim on the window is bowed. Custom Built will not take responsibility for that "you must had left your window open" who leaves the window open when you are away on a vacation?! Never had a leak prior to these windows. read more

My husband and I rebuilt our home in 2009, and had seven antique and modern stained glass panels we'd collected over the years that we wanted to incorporate into the design. Our primary concern was to not only have the windows meet current building codes, but also protect them for future generations. Scott Gardner was wonderful to work with: he patiently explained how we could "sandwich" the panels in thermopane (which would allow the glass to expand and contract, yet support the structural leads or copper foil (depending on the panel) connecting each glass piece together as a whole, and the thermal insulation benefits were a definite additional plus. I also want to add that not all the panels we submitted for processing were rectangles or squares: two were rounds (one of them 42" wide), a pair were antique Gothic Arches, and two more were incorporated into non-opening transoms above double hung windows. ALL of them came out utterly beautiful, and our house is truly the "work of art" we hoped it would be. I would HIGHLY recommend Custom Built for any of your glass needs, commercial OR residential. A final note: I do not live in Rhode Island, yet I was willing to travel from Massachusetts for CB's services over local window service suppliers. The pricing was fair, the personalized service stellar, and the product is definitely 5 star! read more
