They charged my credit card for an even 2,000 when I was quoted 1600. When questioned about it, they said they have nothing to do with it once it is off their property and I need to talk with the fabricator. I guess they got their money and that's all they care about - not about resolving miscommunication and potential fraud.

They are always quick to respond and are very organized and on top of things. We always knew when they would be available and they always came on time. They were super helpful in helping us choose a stone and told us what to expect. Oh, and they were one of the cheapest bids we got. The big name places wanted to charge us thousands more for a less personal experience. The best part about them was their attention to detail. When we chose our slabs, they told us what to look for and showed us things we would have never considered on our own. They came the day after our kitchen cabinets were installed and said one cabinet was 1/4" off of what is should be on one corner. They encouraged us to get it straightened so the counter would be perfect, even though it was such a small imperfection. When we were planning the cuts they'd make for the counters, they made sure they knew what part of the slab we liked best for the island and showed us exactly where seams would be. When they made the seams, they lined up the pattern perfectly. They put so much into their work and helped us make decisions to get the perfect kitchen! They also somehow got our giant 10' Island piece up our split level stairs and around a tight corner without scratching a single thing in the house. Our review is solely based on what we have personally and individually gone through in utilizing this sub-contractor. We needed custom cabinets for two basement bathrooms on a new home build. MJ Design was recommended to us by the folks that did our granite countertops. We set an appointment, and Jared came out to our home for an initial visit. We identified our needs and shortly thereafter we received an initial quote. Much to our surprise, the price was well above our expectations, yet we felt like Jared's initial "sales pitch of being a perfectionist" and considering customer support & communication with the client" two of his highest priorities - we swallowed the bitter money pill and paid approximately $9,000 for two, bathroom cabinets.- signing the verbose and somewhat occluded work order/authorization (here, like pretty much every other homeowner we trusted in good faith that we not only would be taken care of, but more importantly we would have a credible voice in the event something went astray). During our initial design visit we unequivocally expressed and explained to Jared what specific stain we wanted on the cabinetry to the smaller bathroom. Jared assured us that he could produce what we requested. At no point did he provide either a sample or even a photo of what "ebony" stain would look like as a final product. Our primary requests where to ensure that the expensive walnut grain would be clearly seen through the stain - Once again we put our faith in him as the expert he proffered to be. When the cabinets arrived for installation - it was immediately apparent that there was a problem. While the larger bathroom cabinetry was fine, the smaller bathroom cabinet was stained a dark, pitch black and not in any form what we originally agreed upon. That same day and before any installation occurred, we notified Jared of the problem, we stated our preference - that the problem cabinet was not to be installed, that it be taken back to his shop and fixed as to what we expected/needed. His immediate response was to have all the cabinets installed and we "could work things out later", so once again - with concern now growing, we allowed for the installers to do their job. What followed as one might identify as a "remedial effort at reaching an acceptable solution" instantaneously decomposed into overt events of "doubling down and falling back on what was requested per the work order/authorization" - now days after the installation had occurred Jared produced a definition of "ebony" a definition which was unknown to us when ordering - as a point of interest it was at this time that we found that the specific language found within his work order/authorization is crafted in such a unilateral manner that it leaves the customer without any significant legal recourse- should you elect to undergo a contract with this individual, it will be to your greatest benefit to read every single word in the fine print. This obvious a case of "Buyer Beware". Jared did come out to our house and see the problem for himself. At that time, he let us know that the outside panels of the cabinets would have to be made anew, and that he shouldered "part of the responsibility - during that specific conversation" (at no time did he identify or assign any additional expense for us). We were left with the expectation that the new cabinet panels would arrive shortly and be installed as per our original work order/contract. After his visit - we received an email for a change order and an additional $800.00 charge for the new cabinet panels. This is when we witnessed in fact what "perfectionism and customer support" truly mean in this venue. For two weeks we texted, called and emailed. In every single one of those communication platforms, we optimistically searched for a way to reach an acceptable solution (our intent has always been to help protect the brand name of those folks who take great pride in the quality of their trade). The few replies we received, unfortunately contained (once again) the same verbiage of "what was ordered" and the menace of possible additional costs that (according to the contract) he could, should he wish, bring forth. Just to further clarify, I am quoting his last email to us: "There is no use going back and forth, this will be my LAST email". How would you feel as a dissatisfied and frustrated customer? Home building is stressful enough without these gauntlets. How we wish that our experiences with MJ Design would have been different, the real irony is that they very well should have. I asked him to put the countertop around the "L" corner without a joint in the corner and he said he would try but it usually can't be done. They were able to do it and they threw in for no extra charge about $800 worth of the island going to 2" thick and another $700 worth of countertops and sinks for the master bath. We also got an upgrade in the stone itself. The work is absolutely fantastic. I think it is better than anyone else could do. I am a strong DIYer and can appreciate good work. I wouldn't change anything. Don't think twice about using these guys. They are the best!

Valley Construction really overdelivers, I thought I only needed some drywall and baseboards, a bit…read moreof mud and some paint, but I basically got a whole new roommate!! If you need a great team to fumble a job, like you've never seen before, this is the best you're going to get!! I'm truly impressed with how many times I've heard "It'll get done tomorrow, for sure"!! So back on February 4th, which was a reschedule from the 2nd, Valley Construction started work to hang, mud, sand, then paint, about 50sq ft of drywall. They would also install baseboards beneath those sections. Total scope of work was quoted at about 1 -2 days. That should have told me all I needed to know, as mud takes about a day to dry. Either way, as of today, the evening of February 24th, they are still not done. Granted, there was one week where we asked them not to come due to a planned vacation, but we would have never needed to if it didn't take almost two weeks to hang and mud. I don't think I've ever experienced a service provider less communicative about their plan or schedule. They text you either the night before, or the day of and tell you someone will be coming by, and some times that person shows up when they said they would, and some times they send another text mid morning and inform you that they decided to do another job first and that they'd come by in the afternoon instead. Some times, the worker(s) work for a solid block of time, some times they leave and you're left wondering if they just went to lunch or decided to go do a different job. Like an automated response, the PM will always text you and tell you that it will get done the next day "for sure," but you'll never know if the worker(s) will actually show. It completely astounds me that they actually asked for a key to the property, citing that they typically have home owners just let them put a lock box on their door, so that they can come and go as needed if the home owner needs to be at work or otherwise out of the house. I'm fortunate to work from home, which has now turned into it's own set of challenges, but there is no way I would ever give this company a key to my house and let them have the freedom to come and go as needed. We'll see if this get's done tomorrow. They managed to sand and paint about 2/3 of the area during the 6 hours or so they were working here today, which admittedly feels accurate, but I'm not placing bets on them wrapping up everything tomorrow. *** IMPORTANT: END OF USER FEEDBACK. My hot water heater burst last year, and I was referred to Valley Construction to help with the…read moredemo/rebuild of my laundry room. When it happened, they took care of EVERYTHING. I hardly had to lift a finger. They coordinated with my home owners insurance, called all the right people to do mold tests, their project managers were at my house within a day or two. It was incredible. I had a mold remediation person at my house within an hour to test the damage for any black mold, and the crew was setting up fans to dry out my dry wall and flooring within 24 hours. With the demo, I had to rip out the flooring in my laundry room, and it just made sense to redo the floors in both my kitchen and laundry room so that they matched. They brought someone in for samples, everything was so quick and efficient. I also want to give 5 stars to Mike Stone specifically. He was an incredible project manager, so thorough and thoughtful and kind. I will come back here for any future needs because of him specifically. I did have one minor miscommunication - I was told I could be on a payment plan to pay off the remainder of my bill that insurance didn't cover, however a week after being told this was okay and setting up my payment plan, they called back and told me they no longer do payment plans and that I had to pay my bill by the end of the following week. I had such a wonderful experience leading up to this point, so I didn't want to dock a star, especially because they handled the back and forth with both me and my insurance for months. But did want to flag that for anyone else who may have needed a payment plan, this isn't something that they offer. I would still go back to them and use them in the future.
