We agreed on a great price and 3 days later when we had the only sunny day he replaced the whole roof. Great job and the work quality is excellent. Lucas answered while on an existing job. He was very honest saying he can't drop by to make an assessment. Knowing the importance of the situation, he said he'll have his father drop by to take a look. The father (was it Joe?) came by as promised and saw that the previous roofer didn't put flashing around a portion of the chimney. He gave a couple of possible fixes and I picked the more expensive one. He gave me a break on price if i went with the more expensive fix which i appreciated. Before showing up for the work due to budgeting issues i changed to the lower price solution. He didn't have any problems with this change. He and his other son (not Lucas) came on the day as promised. The funny thing was I didn't know they were there until i heard banging outside! They ripped some of the old roof tiles, installed new flashing and overlay them with some leftover tiles I had laying around. They also caulked around other parts of the chimney. They cleaned up their mess. There were aome storms afterwards and no leak! Thx to Lucas for knowing the importance of the problem and having your father and brother fit me into their schedule. Had 3 choices of leasing the system. Free (no money down, $2500 with a reduced monthly rate or approximately $9,000 after rebates. I chose $2500. I could afford this amount with a payback starting in approx. 4 years. During Jan and Feb when it snowed heavily, half of the panels were covered with about 2 feet of snow. So there was not enough surface area to produce electricity. I have two types of roofs - very sloped and slightly sloped, with 8 panels on one roof and 7 on the other. At the end of February I decided to clean off the snow on the less sloped roof and immediately started to get my solar electricity again. But I watched the meter going backwards in November and December, then forward in Jan and Feb and has been going backward since I uncovered the panels of snow. Since March PSEG-Long Island has only been charging me for the delivery charge of $10.49 which just went up to $12.04. If you get electricity delivered to your house they will always charge you this flat fee. I am hoping that I will produce enough electricity to be credited to pay for that flat fee and my monthly solar rate of $42/month for then next 20 years. The crew was great. Clean and cleaned up. All of the supports bars were cut prior to arriving at my house, so the crew just had to measure where to place the support feet, lay the bars and connect the 15 panels. Then drill the holes in the basement to support 2 larger panels. A meter and a small panel go on the outside of the house near the electric meter. Except for a small amount of concrete debris in basement, they cleaned everything on site. Whole job was 1 1/2 days. I did my research. I don't know if NJ crews have different attitude, but my crew was great. There was no initial sales pitch. I showed sales rep my electric bills. I got the system explained to me and asked for all options. They went to the town for the permit and did all the leg work.

Spruce Power does not install solar panels, so now I have to get someone to take the panels down. Many companies will not touch the panels because they don't want to be liable for panels that are not theirs. I would take the panels down myself to get my roof replaced, but under Spruce Power guidelines that is not allowed and only a certified electrician can do that. After dealing with this nonsense, I decided to take a real hard look at my electric bill and discover I am not saving a thing with the solar panels. What a rip off that I have to deal with until I can pay off the panels or my contract runs out.

Each time they showed us photos of the work that needed to be done and what was done. This time, though, our experience wasn't good at all. From the first phone call we made, we weren't given an approximate time or even a day the roofer could be here for a leak in the roof. He said they were very busy and couldn't tell me. I was told I'd be given a phone call a half hour prior to them arriving. The person (owner?) who answered the phone was abrupt. Three days later (and having my cell phone on me all the time), the roofer showed up without calling me first. Thankfully I was home. He then went to repair the leak but was going to the wrong part of the roof, yet we showed him exactly where the leak was. We tried telling him again but the roofer became angry, grabbed his ladder, and left. Also when he first rang our doorbell, he said he wasn't told about inspecting the rest of the roof, yet in our phone calls, we specifically asked for that and were assured it would be done. I have two other roofing companies I can use who have repaired and replaced roofs in our neighborhood. I'll be using one of them from now on.
