For a while I thought that this place was just another pub, but it turns out that it is actually the bar that adjoins the Marriot hotel. Honestly, I really wasn't all that impressed with it, though being a part of the hotel it does end up being much, much bigger than I orginally thought it was. The service was pretty average, and it was a bit pricey as well, though they did have some nice beers available. Still, it really isn't a place I'd be coming back to in a hurry.

Came here during a week night with a couple of friends for drinks and a burger. I highly doubt I could survive a place like this on the weekend. The only competition we had were a few pockets of suits unwinding after a day at the office. The staff seemed pretty cool and were down for a joke and a laugh. Ordering was harmless, a burger and beer, a proper pint I might add, costed around $32. There was inside seating but with the tail end of Summer getting closer, the evening air took on a more refreshing tone... we opted to sit outside is what I'm getting at. I liked the sturdy wooden tables, gives something to pound your fist on during a good anecdote. The food came out at a good time, we were maybe half way through our first round. Angus Beef Burger, complete with Angus beef, cheddar cheese, maple bacon jam, chipotle, aioli and a side of fries. The fries were the prefect size and crunched brilliantly between the teeth. The burger was enjoyable. You can really savor the texture of the beef and the aroma of the cheese. The maple bacon jam was great by itself but got lost in the beef. There was a spice that I and my friends couldn't quite put our fingers on, it hid in the background and gave a subtle warm. The portion size was just right, not too many chips that you can't finish the burger. The burger was, again, just the right size. It didn't tower over us trying to overcompensate for something and it didn't leave you wanting. We might pop back into again someday.

Get ur see-saw pants on and strap yourself in for this review. It's gonna be a bumpy old rollercoaster! Friday arvo I was jetting past the CHB at around 2 and the place was buzzing. Outdoors, sunny aspect, trendy umbrellas. Yup u get the pictionary. You might even say it had a vibe. You know what I am saying right? Ooh stop the press! Pump it up a little more, Girl I gotta let you know that u got that vibe. You got it. Vibe. Baby. Vibe. Girl. you. got. that. Joann's got it Leonice has got it Theresa's got it Tonia's got it I tell ya CHB's got it... Woah, sorry just reminiscing some. CHB's vibe was looking like scoring them 4-stars. So my first drink was $7 for a half pint, my second $9.50 for a full. Now I am not that good on ye olde arithmetic but if you join the dots on that one it aint a giraffe! This review was rapidly heading towards 3-stars, but wait there's facebook more! If you share/like on FB after u order a half pint they'll upgrade u to a fully for free! Digital marketing FTW! And we are back to 4. Then uh-oh-spaghetti-o the bouncer slapped on the douche cologne and turned into a funstopper and told one of the girls in our crew she was done for the night cos she accidentally knocked over a chair. I pondered on blow-torching CHB with a 1, then. Vibe! Vibe! You got that! And it was back to 2. Suddenly, as if granting all my christmas wishes at once, 17 super-sized surly santas descended upon the joint like a cavalcade of chrimbo cheer (literally) - and our wee problem was solved. We were able to get at least 4 more rounds in as the bouncer was distractedly drowning in a sea of red and white rowdiness. I've also been here during a weekday and had lunch. Service on that occasion was good without being great, food was good without being great. Prices were fairly expensive @ $25 for a burger and a half pint. The burger was a big boy and it certainly had me full for the rest of the day. So in the end, I decided on a 3 for CHB (lunch or drink). Come here & have ur after work drinks and have a good night out. Just be very aware of the ultra douche bouncer. If you get flagged for spillage ur entire table is toast - unless you wish upon a star...

Folonomo donates all its profits to charity, but this ain't no sausage sizzle. No sir, this is a proper sit down meal with flowers on the table that you could take your mother to. The menu is small with only a handful of entrees and a handful of mains but everything sounds delicious enough to keep you asking the waiter for just one more minute. The food is share-plate friendly and leans towards the 'healthy' path with dishes featuring cauliflower rice and risotto made from sunflower kernels. But healthy doesn't mean bland - their octopus is super tender with a morish smoky char and the poached chicken is succulent and juicy with just the right amount of harissa to keep your fork going back for more, even when you start using up dessert stomach space. It's a wonderful feeling rolling out a restaurant having eaten too much and not feeling guilty about it. After all, it's all for charity.

My coworker and I got there a little after 12PM, right in time for the start of the 3rd quarter. Wasn't too crowded, so we snagged a table with a great view of the TV. There are daily specials and it was Wednesday, so we got the parmigian for $10. This was basically the chicken schnitzel which is the special the day before..hmmm Ordered a cider and waited for the food and watched the game. The buzzer went off within minutes and the plate was huge. There was salad, a good amount of chips and a huge heart shaped chicken parmigian with cheese and bacon on top. You can top it off with gravy at the cutlery station. The meat was a bit tough to cut but overall pretty tasty. Was stuffed afterwards. Cheap food, basketball and cider, can't really go wrong with that combination!

This is a very common Friday lunch-time haunt for corporates due to the good lunch menu and open bar. The "BBQ menu" is standard pub fare but the quality is actually quite good. My fave orders are the wagyu beef burger, fish & chips or the schnitzel. I'm definitely not a salad girl, but my colleagues claim the chicken salad is quite good if so inclined. Take a seat in the open verandah which is especially nice in summer, and count down the hours to quitting time and the weekend!

When I asked what are they she again replied not sure. Like come on you have 6 beers in tap and you don't know what they are..... this is a tourist area you should beable to at least handle something that easy. What made it worse is she shook my beer constantly as she poured it so while it was cold and decent it was flatter than tap water. Got their burger with the "famous fries" the fries were good crispy and fresh but nothing to write home about certainly not famous. The burger was pretty terrible. Over cooked frozen unseasoned ground beef slathered in a cup of cheap BBQ sauce and another cup of mayo to the point the burger was sliding part from the plethora of lube between it's parts. The bacon was nearly raw to the point I wasn't sure if it was safe to eat. Wife had the macadamia crusted fish sandwich which was "decent enough" but the fries which were ordinary were the "best part" This place was empty, soulless, without personality and it was painfully clear it was surviving on location alone. I'm sure during the summer it's hopping but getting an eye roll when asking for water at 2PM on a Friday durring the off season just is not it. Lots of staff standing around on their phones. Which makes sense because it was pretty empty. Which makes it all the worse that a manager and some vendor or customer were standing 10 feet from us arguing about something. Would not recommend for anything beyond a quick drink near the beach but for the future a beer should not be shaken, stirred, vibrated and or swirled, certainly not all of the above.

There are stools at high tables, lower ones for small and large groups, and lounge-y low chairs and tables in the back if you want a bit more seclusion. Everything's still very new and clean, and is a mix of industrial/shabby-chic (think old luggage trunks for tables, glued-together Jenga blocks for menu holders, and tin buckets for your cutlery). Parts of it seem almost trying a bit too hard to be funky, but it's not overbearing. The food is mostly familiar pub items (schnitzel, burger, fish and chips) but with a few nice additions. The pulled pork roll is excellent. And their chips are delicious across the board, with lots of rosemary salt making them a cut above the average. They have lunch specials. They often have live music in the evenings. Their wine menu is small but better than pub average (Mudgee barbera, anyone? Yes please!). The only thing I find a bit annoying is that they have segregated counter areas for ordering food and drinks. I'm kinda disappointed to be leaving Marrickville now that the Ritz is here.

The place was reasonably busy but we still managed to secure a good spot for the crew and ordered up the food. I chose the jerk 1/4 chicken with the slaw 'n order (kale, cabbage & sprout slaw, caper, cornichon, fine herb & mustard vinaigrette), a serve of beer battered chips, and for the kids the chicken tenders. Others also got the jerk chicken with different sides. The jerk chicken did not have much kick to it which was disappointing, and the portion size and presentation seemed to vary to my friends. On to the slaw, which was not really a slaw at all, big leaves of kale (my least favourite green - google 'kale and coconut oil meme'), on a large bed of acidic, vinegary capers and cornichons - not my idea of a nice cabbage shredded 'slaw. The beer battered chips were rejected as way too salty by everyone, including the kids which love salt usually, so they were sent back for replacement. Which left the kid chicken tenders, which were fine if you like hot 'n' spicy (me = yes, kids = so no). I mentioned that when returning the chips and was advised they use the same seasoned coating as the chicken in the burgers, so yea, kids [spicy] tenders. The service was great. Am hoping I was just unlucky on the night with the food choices made. Also hoping I'm wrong in wondering if the Chicken & Son crew are trying too hard with the hipster menu or are simply not executing properly in the kitchen, and resulting in letting down what is actually a half decent pub.
