The latter which I had yet to experience in Brisbane. Sporting four areas, the venue has something for pretty much anyone. On Saturday, it was bustling. Almost every table will filled (which is good going seeing as they only opened on the 19th) and amongst the couples and a friends populating the venue, there was one big family table having dinner. It diversity of the venue was comforting and reminded me of the English pubs I spent time in growing up. We had one quick drink on Saturday and tonight I returned to grab a quick dinner. It was quieter tonight, which suited what I was looking for. The menu, in my opinion, is spot on in size. Bat snacks, sharing sized options, sandwiches, sides and bigger plates. It's creative, but not over the top or complicated. I opted for the chip butty, because chips in bread. Come at me. The bread came filled with shoe strings fries, black garlic mayo and homemade tomato sauce. It was crisp and saucy and... bloody perfect really. Sitting at the bar (it's all bar service), I chatted to the bar staff who were just the right level of attentive. I asked for a glass of red to go with my sandwich, a slightly odd pairing, I know. My glass of Pinot was light, velvety and was the perfect match. For a venue that's been open for an entire seven days, they're doing something right. Wait, scratch that. Everything right.

Our entrée of bruschetta was some of the best I've tasted and it was a dead heat as to who received the best main course. My gnocchi was rich and creamy without being overbearing or heavy and went nicely with the caprese salad I ordered as a side. I tasted my companions' dishes (penne puttanesca and prosciutto-wrapped pork) and both were incredibly flavoursome. We ordered a tiramisu and panna cotta from the dessert menu and thoroughly enjoyed both along with espresso shots. The restaurant is simply but beautifully decorated and Italian film and television posters adorn the walls. The ladies bathroom was very clean and spacious and perfumes were available for those needing a top-up. Overall, the experience was fantastic with the only room for improvement being the lighting, which was a little bright. I'll be making the trip to Paddington quite regularly.

It's a traditional Italian trattoria and is a wonderful little space inside the restaurant, with part of the space dominated by a very large collection of Italian (and other countries) wines, which can match any of the meals you opt for. The menu is very pasta based, which is great for an Italian restaurant, but there are other options just in case you feel like something different. When the restaurant is full, it has an amazing vibe but it can become a little difficult to hear your dining companions, so if you love a robust conversation and a good meal Italian style, then Grappino is the spot

We've tried our share of other Vietnamese restaurants beyond our two favourites - Ca Phe Nam in West End and Pho An at Inala - and they always disappoint. Our favourites set the benchmark for taste, outstanding quality and value. And we now welcome Pho Hung Vuong to the favourites family. Two Phos, a Rare Beef ($20) and a Special Pho ($25), were superb with a boastful broth, fresh rice noodles and inspiring ingredients. The condiments too were generous, just the way we like and expect them, with plenty of bean sprouts, basil, chili paste and fresh red chilis, lime wedges and hoisin sauce. We made quick work of both phos and commented on how much we enjoyed them on the way to emptying our bowls. Sometimes spotting something by chance results in a welcome opportunity to experience something new. And, in this case, utterly delicious and beyond expectations. We'll be back, Pho sure!

We were looking forward to a good breakfast and ordered the Big Breakfast with avocado added and a couple of coffees. When our breakfast arrived it looked good, but as soon as we touched the eggs they were hard and rubbery and our hearts sank. There's not much worse than overcooked poached eggs. Cutting into the eggs, all 4 were hard boiled with an overwhelming smell and taste of vinegar. If the eggs were just hard we would have still eaten them, but all we could taste was vinegar and the whites were rubbery and inedible. The waitress offered to replace them with fried eggs after talking to the cook. She advised that the cook could only make poached eggs with vinegared water and they couldn't guarantee that the same thing wouldn't happen again. We look forward to soft poached eggs with breakfast every Saturday, so we took the chance that if they were cooked properly they wouldn't taste like vinegar...unfortunately that was a very bad mistake. The eggs were replaced with terribly under-cooked poached eggs with raw whites oozing all over the plate. The thin layer of cooked whites on the outside still tasted only like vinegar so we just ate the yolks. The rest of the breakfast was nice, but we left feeling like the cook had no idea how to poach eggs, or had deliberately under cooked the eggs to the point that they were also inedible. Either way, we wouldn't go back.

Even more thrilled that they were not at all fussed when we asked for a table change away from the cold draft of our original table. The choice of beers (Green Beacon) excited my husband who'd already spied his top two faves in the fridge. We ordered the bacon and blue for him, cheeseburger for me and buffalo wings to share and our companions also ordered the lamb and tatziki burger. We were all extremely happy with our choices. The cheeseburger is always my go to, when trying a new burger joint and this didn't disappoint me. I observed the melted cheese when my waitress brought the dish and I was salivating. I could honestly devour them in one sitting sans the burger. I didn't notice any hot sauce but you didn't need them. It was just the right amount of heat (not overpowering at all).
