Visited the CV Starr center for a birthday and am always impressed by the magnificence of the entire project especially in light of where it is located. It's a great place for parties, to swim and work out. They also offer classes in many different areas. It's part of the local Rec district and one of the eight man made wonders to visit on the Mendocino Coast. read more

I visited the CV Starr Center for the first time as I was coaching Special Olympics swimming. I was impressed with the location from the moment I walked into the moment I walked out. The locker room was first class with everything from showers to hand dryers and much more. The swimming pool and the slide were something to see as it had an Olympic-sized swimming pool and a huge lazy river with a monster slide. I was impressed by the lifeguards on duty as it seemed like they loved their job and took safety seriously. The building also offers a cardio and weight room. I love this pool, it has a slide and a lazy river. Not to mention the lap pool and the play section. The bathrooms have a swimsuit drying machine which is very helpful after you've swam and showered. The water is heated and even if its cold outside, it will be almost 90 in the pool. Had so much fun here, definently a hidden jem in the town of Fort Bragg. read more

I visit the Mendocino Coast throughout the year. I always make time for a Zumba class at CV Starr Community Center. The staff are welcoming and the classes are amazing! Kamala is my favorite instructor - she is welcoming and friendly. She claims to be the "biggest goofball in the room" which puts everyone at ease. We laugh, shimmy, and get a great workout. I'm never worried that I have been gone too long - her style is familiar and easy to follow. I wish classes in SF were like hers! Don't forget to pack your workout clothes when you go on vacation in Fort Bragg/Mendocino. SO much fun! read more

I love CV Starr and don't understand how it doesn't get more Community support. I mean it is a community center built for the community, doesn't run for a profit and it has fantastic facilities, fantastic instructors, a beautiful dance/yoga studio, a great gym with nice new working equipment, amazing aquatics and programs. I've been to many centers and gyms in three or more states and this one is the best I've experienced for the low price. We are so lucky to have this gem! Our kids need this. And, It's hard to find lifeguards, so they are mostly high school students and yes they may not have developed full social skills, But there are many of them and I have always been confident of my daughters safety there. And Kamala is my favorite Zumba instructor! They are all amazing. Ive experienced Zumba in at least six different facilities across two states and have never had the expectations that the other reviewer said was lacking. OK I gotta admit I teach a yoga class there! Visitors-- need a sitter? Check out the Friday night drop off/swim for kids-- 6-9 pm, I believe. Life guards on duty, activities for the kids, pizza. Awesome!!! Want a romantic dinner without the kids? Need certified, safe sitters in an area you don't know? Check! Not only do they have the only 'amusement' type water park in town, they have Zumba classes, a weight room, cooking classes (must pre-register), Spanish classes, sewing... Wish I lived here! What a great resource! The aquatics director, Dede, is the best! Super sweet, caring, friendly, helpful and kind. Such a sweetheart! They offer life guard training classes, swimming, etc. A day pass is only $5 (kids), $7 (adults), or $9 (kids/seniors) or $11 (adults) for non-residents. You do not have to live in Fort Bragg to use their facilities. Perfect for visiting families, who need a break from a cold day at the beach. The pool and water facilities here are indoor. They have lap swimming, a small lazy river, water slides, classes, weight room, etc. They also have two small rooms (can open into a larger room) for birthday parties! Perfect! Signed my sons up for swim lessons. They had lots of fun, but the pool is way too chlorinated and they got rashes every week. Never had that problem at any other pool. I went there once on a free day and it was so crowded, it was miserable. Older kids swearing in the pool was annoying, but one of the awesome lifeguards scolded them. We kinda got harassed by a handicapped man there too. Boys older than 4 aren't allowed in the women's locker room. There's no way I'm sending my 5 yr old in the men's locker alone. They have 2 "family" shower rooms, which were often taken, and the floor was so wet, we couldn't put dry clothes on without soaking them. So I'm not a fan. It's always a headache to go every week, But the kids love it there. read more

I have been taking group fitness classes at CV Starr forever. Their drop in rates are affordable and the center is welcoming. I especially enjoy Zumba. You can find just about any style of instructor teaching this class at CV Starr. If you are a beginner or looking for good directions check out Kamala. She will make you feel welcome and always says a personal hello. Her classes are always safe, fun, and consistent. I wish she taught more classes! read more

A great place to take the kids for some fun indoor water play. Overall, the facility was clean and well kept. Entrance fees were reasonably priced. Lifeguards on duty, life vests and floaties available. Certainly, the main attraction for the kids was the water slide but this place also sports a lazy river with overhead buckets that dump water. Also, fountains with adjustable flow knobs, sectioned areas, gradient pool and more. I didn't get to see the rest of the facility and my family and I only spent a few hours there but well worth it. I would recommend this place and would come back if I'm in the area. read more

My 6 year old daughter almost drowned today!!! She was allowed to go into lazy river(3.5 foot deep river w/currant) even though she cant swim or TOUCH BOTTOM!!!! I walked over to a lifeguard asking please help my daughter get her out she needs help!!! I explained her not able to touch bottom or able to swim......she was looking at me and lifeguard crying scared on the far wall from us he said he couldn'thelp he didnt want to get wet!! Wtf!! .....finally he walked out reached his safety float strap out for her to grab so he could drag her to our side. Then she was scared shaking, he wouldn't reach down to grab her and help her up on side!!! I had to walk out get my shoes wet and help her up......why are you a lifeguard if you cant get wet..... such a stupid incident that should never happen!! I soooo blown away, why be a f@#$ing lifeguard if you never wanna get wet! Sad thing this was the second close call with a young child almost drowning today:( GABE!!! the lifeguard should be fired on the spot today! Worst experience I've ever had!!! read more

I took my kids there twice this past week while on vacation in Ft. Bragg and they absolutely loved it! Their ages range from 9-16 and all had fun. They have a lazy river and a slide which they time to open one at a time for safety reasons but it also kept the kids from getting bored. There were lifeguards all over the place and they were doing a great job! This will definitely be a stop every time we are there and we visit quite often. Thank you for opening such a great place! I have the most rejuvenating, joyful time at Kamala's Zumba classes. I tend to really enjoy Zumba anyway, but Kamala's particular style of teaching is really effective and approachable. She always greets the class with warmth, care, and smiles. She doesn't take herself too seriously, which is appealing, because it sets the group at ease and sets a tone of fun and freedom. That said, she also maintains a strong leadership presence, and I love that I always know what to do. She is really good about cuing with her hand gestures and body language. I enthusiastically recommend Kamala's Zumba classes to one and all! read more

In Ft. Bragg for a month long course and got a month pass. Very nice facility. Front desk staff was excellent. The gym is adequate but I was thrilled to be able make it to a Zumba class tonight. Worst Zumba class I've attended in three states! Not only did the instructor Camalla not introduce herself or ask if anyone was new or have any injuries she could help with, but she didn't bother to use a microphone during the session! So, no instruction cues given at all! She spent no time instructions or helping anyone do the moves correctly. Unless you already know the moves don't bother trying to learn them from Camalla. read more

I brought my family (four kids) up to Ft Bragg for a trip at Christmas time and the pool at C.V. Starr was supposed to be one of the big attractions for them. I was pretty disgusted. Many of the attractions were closed -- they didn't hire enough life guards so in order to go in the lazy river, they had to close the slides and vice versa -- give me a break. What really upset me was the fact that my 7 year old daughter wasn't allowed to go on the slides - she's a strong swimmer. I get that they have rules, but here is what's awful - one of the guards told her that she could go if she could pass a swim a test -- so she swam her heart out and aced the swim test but when she got out of the pool, the guard said "Wow, you are a good swimmer, but come back when you're older." I was livid, what a cruel thing to do to a little girl! We asked for our money back (which to their credit they gave it back willingly) and left very disappointed. I heard from someone that the aquatic center was having financial trouble and at risk for closing -- I'm not sad to hear it, things will improve with better management. read more
