Visiting from Baltimore, it didn't shock me to see so many unhoused people on the street outside this CVS. And, experiencing a customer having a mental health episode at the counter didn't faze me either, but I was impressed with the cashier's ability to handle the situation with grace and compassion, while continuing to move customers along and do her job. Well done! I still don't like paying for water. I REALLY didn't like paying a bottle water "tax" here in Chicago. WHAT? There is literally a 5Cent tax on each bottle of water you purchase. read more

They misrepresented what time they're open. The website said they open at 7am but its a trick/deceiving. I arrived at 7:08 and the manager claimed they're not open because he was by himself. If he didn't want to be by himself, logic would suggest he schedules people to be there on time. He did not seem to care when I called the store and said they misrepresented customers lying about the time they opened. The craziest part was he tried blaming it on the Marathon, when the reason my mother and I planned to go there was to get drinks for people running the marathon. When I called the store number to point out they deceived us he did not seem to care and refused to open the door. My guess was he failed to show up for work on time. CVS generally sucks. Stores are often dirty and unshelved stock blocks the isles. Few employees to help. Stuff you want is locked up and no one is available to get it for you. Store hours are not honored. I feel sorry for employees that have to work under these conditions. read more

This place was fast, but not efficient. Tiring of going to a nearby convenience store we opted for this place one time and that was the only time we came here. It's a bit cramped in here making it hard to maneuver around the other customers. The product available was ample and what you would expect from a CVS, so finding what we needed was easy and fast like I said. When it came to checking out was when the fast part ended. The line seemed to not move so I opted for the self checkout. Only having a few items I thought that this would be quick. I was wrong. Everything that could go wrong with a checkout did. I had to have the manager come over to allow me to finish my purchase. And leave it to an out-of-towner to not know of the plastic bag rule. The manager having asked me if I was going to purchase a bag and knowing I was, never returned with a bag for me. So I had to ask for my bag so I could leave the store. Yesh. read more

I thought this CVS was great! I walked in on a hot sunny day looking to replenish my thirst with some Gatorade. This CVS did the job! Got a big bottle for $0.77! Yes, there was a line and there was only one guy working the register, but it didnt take longer than 5 minutes for me to be rung up and on my way. I'm terrible at opening drink bottles so I asked the cashier to help me open up my drink. He was happy to do it for me! What great service!!! Plus this place is open on the weekends (which usually doesnt happen in the downtown area). read more

Dear CVS, Your customer services sucks. No really, it's awful. If you weren't located conveniently to my apartment, I would never go to you, ever. On multiple occasions I have had to endure a 5+ minute wait to get a CTA pass at your registers, because you do not offer them at the self check out and you never have an adequate amount of workers in the store. Also, when I tried to use a 25% off coupon on a CTA pass you told me I couldn't use it. Disregard the fact that I read the fine print and no where did it say the CTA pass wasn't a valid item OR the fact that I used a 30% off coupon on a CTA pass the month prior at a CVS up the street! The Manager repeatedly told me that I couldn't use it and it must have been a mistake if they allowed me to use it at the other location. Also, this was after waiting 10 minutes while there was only one sales assistant helping a family take passport photos. AND the manager walked pass me three times! PS. You need a new manager - ASAP. read more

I used to love this CVS since its down the street, has coupons and the pharmacists always seem really nice. Today, they overcharged me $5 for something that was B1G1 free and I patiently waited 10 (15?) minutes for the manager to come fix it. Usually, I'm ok with waiting a few minutes since i hate making peoples jobs more difficult. But I can see him down in the aisle. stocking. a. shelf. very very slowly. The sales associate rang him up 3 times. And he just kept going at it for what seems to be an eternity. It was almost as if him/the sales associate/me were at some kind of stalemate where he was trying to be as unhelpful as possible. After I've held up the self checkout line for 10 minutes, glaring forlornly at him in the aisle, he finally waltzes by. He wordlessly checks the price. Fixes it. No apologies. Nothing. Silence. Moral of the story: Don't come here in a hurry and really, when u see something weird at check out, JUST GIVE UP. read more

Look, it's CVS, but since I check in here all the time, Yelp keeps popping it up on my page that I should review it. Yelp knows best! Thus, I'd like to brag about this particular CVS. *The bread is always fresh (sounds weird, but they sell my 35 calorie whole grain bread that I can't even find at Whole Foods). *The pharmacists are always nice and willing to answer my questions (after my infected tooth was pulled while I was awake, I was in so much pain and crying that the pharmacist helped me out by talking with me and rushing my pain prescription). *Scan your CVS card at the machine in the front to get coupons every visit. *Yes, there's always a line. Just plan for that and/or stop by during non-peak hours. I like my little CVS and it's the cleanest I've been to in the loop. Plus, it's always open when I need it (even during the Snowpocalypse)... read more

This CVS is very conveniently located by where I live. Located on the corner of Congress & State. This is your typical chain drugstore. Prices are marked up due to being located in the city. Service is mediocre, I never really expect anything but. They have self checkout registers but there seems to always be something wrong with the machines. The staff always seem annoyed when they have to approve purchases. 2 stars for the convenience, open until midnight everyday, I believe. Except for Sundays, they close earlier. read more

Went in to buy a bag of cotton balls, a bottle of rubbing alcohol and a box of baking soda, it cost me over $7! Basic stuff that would've cost around $3 at other stores. CVS State Street: Went in for a flu shot yesterday, with my wife and I was in luck as no one there except Pharmacist and Pharmacist intern. I walked up to counter and the two are talking about the weather or something and I begin to speak and the Pharmacist intern held up her finger, and says just a minute. She and the Pharmacist continued talking about the weather, clearly not anything about work. I said excuse me I'd like to get a flu shot. Then the Pharmacist turns to me and loudly asks me are you sick now?! I said no, I am not. She then said one minute. The two continued speaking about non work things for another minute. (Really?!) when they finished, I was then directed to go over to a cash register - where the Pharmacist Intern was now waiting for me. She asked me my name and address and than ID and a couple of other questions. When she was through with me I was asked to have a seat. Remember we were the only ones there. This Pharmacist intern never made eye contact, greeted me, said thank you or anything. She was robotic and and the entire interaction was to say the least weird and unpleasant. So we have a seat then about five minutes later the Pharmacist asks me to fill something out. The Pharmacist was different right? Welcoming, grateful for my business, professional? Um no, wrong. Stiff, wooden and robotic. (Was I being punked?!) After completing a 5 question survey the Pharmacist then comes back to me with a syringe on a tray and asks me which arm. (... I'm now super keyed into her leaden, unhappy and unfriendly eyes...). I rolled up the sweater of my right arm. As I was doing this, she said she needed to get to my deltoid. Here I thought is my opportunity to break the ice and make a joke. So I say: you use the term deltoid with people getting a shot? (Ok I was scrambling to find any humor...) she looked at me and and with as little humor as really even possible said: "it's your shoulder". I got my shot. We left. Good gawd people, get another job. You work a counter where human interaction is a key component of your job. Seriously the flu may have been better than this interaction. read more

I go to this CVS for everything cause it's right down the street from me. I continue to come back because everyone is always so nice! As soon as I walk through the door, someone is always there to greet me and make me feel welcome. I usually use the self checkout lanes, but they were out of service whenever I was there last. The one cashier that was working was super efficient and was able to keep up with the swiftly growing line. Whenever it was my turn to checkout, he was very friendly. I was buying a $12 pack of toilet paper and he gave me a coupon that took $6 off! I thought that was extremely kind! Thank you, CVS! I used to absolutely deplore the service provided at this CVS. Now, it's my CVS of choice in Chicago! I didn't give it quite 5 stars since the service still isn't lightning-fast, but the employees are generally friendly and they usually have what I need. (If I could, I would have given 3.5 stars, because I'm a harsh reviewer and am leaning towards 4).Things have really, reallllllyyyy improved since they installed three self-checkout kiosks. This cut down the size of the lines and the wait time a lot. Sometimes they have really good specials on bottled beverages and assorted food items. Some of the products are a little over-priced, but what can you expect from a glorified convenience store in downtown Chicago? The Pharmacy side of the store is similar in the fact that service sometimes takes a little bit longer, but the pharmacists and techs are usually nice. They haven't been super helpful, but they do their best and will genuinely listen to any questions or concerns you may have. They usually go exactly by the book when dealing with customers, and special circumstances. That can be both a good and bad thing. But, hey. I've worked at a CVS in the past, when I lived in a small town. They've gotta follow the rules, or they can get in big trouble with corporate. All in all, it's not too bad. :) read more

I realize the absurdity of reviewing a CVS, but this place just obliterates my normally patient self every time I walk in. The line is always a *crowd* of people in front of the one register that is open (two if you're lucky, but it won't make a difference). The holdup is usually due to an inept sales associate solving an issue with some troublesome customer. The best part is, after paging a manager over the intercom a few times, seeing the person of authority, the person who REALLY reflects the store, waddle up to painstakingly fix the problem at hand, and instead of jumping on a register real quick to chop down the line, they disappear back to whatever cave they crawled out of. OR, after solving the holdup, they'll wander aimlessly back and forth behind the counter, then stand at a register and stare blankly at it, until randomly looking up and barking, "Next!" as if the next person in line should have swarmed them already. Oh, and how could I forget random boxes strewn everywhere? As if someone was restocking a shelf but just wandered off. I try to be polite to the sales associates but they're always in a terrible mood. I realize you work at a CVS but I'm trying to brighten your day up just the tiniest bit. Sorry I'm just another uppity white girl. Unfortunately you are the closest CVS to my train stop home, you're open until midnight, and you tend you be cheaper than the 7-11 across the street. I just detest putting up with a sh*tty establishment for the single reason that it's close to school/work. Christ. read more

I try to avoid CVS/pharmacy because I don't understand their name. (C x V x S) divided by (pharmacy) seems like an unsolvable equation. While in Chicago I did have to stop in to a couple CVS/pharmacy's and two things were consistent: the self-checkout machines were extremely loud and annoying...I wanted to kick over the machine by the time I was done with my 1 item purchase. Secondly, the items I came for (sunscreen & a padlock) were available and cheap. That makes CVS/pharmacy a 4 star store with a 1 star name. read more

After fulfilling a particularly gluttonous urge for Pauly's, I stopped by CVS on my way back to work. I had been waiting for a good sale on coffee and they had Folgers 39 oz for 6.99. Cool, I also purchased some items including two 7-day bus passes. I return to work, finish my day, proceed to the train and then it hits me: I didn't get the passes although I paid for them. AARghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!Now mind you, 5 1/2 hours had passed since I purchased them. I went back and explained, ran down all the events that had taken place during my store visit, showed my receipt, and the manager was very very understanding. He told me I looked like an honest lady and gave me the passes. The real moral here is that he didn't give me a hard time which I really really appreciate!!!!!!!!!!! read more

I actually have no issues here. The staff is nice and they always get me an answer I need. Yes, the line is most always long but this is an unbelievably and incredibly busy location. I never spend more than a couple of minutes in line and I plan on it before I walk in the door so it is never an issue for me. read more

Earlier I called to see about having my prescriptions delivered as it was raining and didn't want to walk over. Two and a half hours later I realize I did need to go get some things. I walked over and went right to the pharmacy to see if my prescription was still there. The mail carrier was there with her box, another woman was waiting to pick up a script, and the pharmacist was getting scripts ready to be sent out. I asked if mine was still there that I could pick it up. I was told "its already been packaged to be sent out." I would think it would be easy to just set it aside and let me take it but I guess that would be too much trouble. Not good from a customer service viewpoint, however I accept I had already given instructions to mail it and partially that was my fault OK. My reason for giving 1 star was when I got to the check out, the woman checking out was getting 2 bottles of spray cleaner with bleach. There are signs ALL OVER stating due to the high demand, only 1 bottle of cleaners, hand sanitizer, toilet paper, paper towels etc will be allowed per customer. There were no more spray cleaners on the shelf. I said to the cashier I thought only 1 spray cleaner was allowed per person, his response was, "well." Sad in these times when the store will not follow their own policy. This is the last time I will use CVS for my scripts (and anything else if I can help it) I will be moving to Wallgreens, they are even closer. Nice job, you win the prize for customer service award of the year!!! read more

The manager here is very annoying. Every single time I go to this store, he asks me, more than once, if he can help me find anything. This is CVS, not a clothing store. I'm browsing. Figuring out what other things I might need. Recently I was picking out a birthday card, which takes time. TWICE he greeted me during this, asking if I needed help. Really?! Every time I go to this store I wish there was any other option in the building. As it is, if I need something that is carried by 7/11 and CVS I will cross the street to go to 7/11. Auto registers are not in service 50% of the time and heaven help you if you dare to ask an employee for help. The shelves are usually about 70% stocked and the place smells like rotting food. Why can't this place be managed like any of the many other CVS' in the loop? read more

The staff here is great. Yes, the line could be long and it's very frustrating! I've encountered great staff. There was one lady that I got to know because I'm a frequent. She was always friendly. Today, I had my headphones in when I entered the store. Another worker (woman) was trying to get my attention. My skirt was tucked under my backpack. She helped me straighten it out. Even though I live just down the street, I go to this store only for the convenience of the pharmacy. The pharmacy staff is wonderful and if I could rate them separately, I would give them 5 stars. However, the rest of the store is awful! It is always really dirty and it smells. The carpet hasn't been cleaned in forever and who knows when, if ever, it gets vacuumed. Plus the sidewalk out front is also a mess. I know a lot of college kids are in the neighborhood and don't alway throw their trash in the can that is located right outside the door. But the store should make more of an effort to keep their entrance area cleaner. And, if you ever think about walking down the alley behind the store, hold your nose! The loading area behind CVS is garbage central. The staff is hit and miss on friendliness and service. read more

I went to this CVS in need of a medication on the spot. I was aware my year prescription had expired, I was well aware they had to call my Dr.'s office for the prescription refill which should have been for another year. I normally receive this medication in packages of three and I am only charged $30 after the insurance pays. When the prescription was called from my doctors office it was filled for one instead of 3 around 10:30 am and given to CVS, I know this because my office had let me know they called it in. So assumptions at this point are at 2pm this prescription should either have been ready for pick up or if any other things had came up CVS should have called me. Well going in at 2pm the prescription wasn't ready i had to wait due to inventory just walking through the door supposedly. I personally don't have the time I have a job, school, and internship to attend. So benefit of the doubt i come back at about 2:15 the prescription still wasnt ready they were then running around scanning the paper work. I was okay with the one pack prescription because i would call later for the rest when needed but what happened next was the price of the prescription for one package was 15 i asked why when they could clearly see in my file of past prescriptions I've been on the same medication for 5 years nothing has changed. So i paid the amount needing the prescription, had plans of calling my office later on which i did and they managed to figure out that they would just refill the year but didn't understand the over charge either. So KIM at CVS took care of Mondays calls 11/16/15 she called me a couple times to apologize and ask for me to come in Tuesday to settle things which i did not have the time due to the hours of the pharmacy. So I was able to speak with Kim before she left Tuesday she explained she wouldn't be in Wednesday but who ever was there would be able to help me, at this point i was already upset. So I come in Wednesday at about 2pm Where I had to wait in line and paper work i need in hand. Before I even walked up Diamond the pharmacist was already giving me the nastiest look. I walked up with a positive attitude just saying hi i had a situation the other day and that's when Diamond RUDELY cuts me off and says i know who you are. I was like well excuse me she then nastily responded i just need this and grabbed the paper work. To then find out the prescription still was not ready. Again in the rush i was in assuming this should have been ready by now, i am now upset with the RUDE service and now the wait again. She then continued with the rude service and threw my final receipt at me. This was the worst service I have ever received all around, Kim did correct the issue and i was content with her after all.But for the ending service after knowing I was upset was completely uncalled for. I hope there is no other customer that ever has to go through what I went through. read more
