Guerin's Pharmacy is a historic pharmacy that opened in Summerville, South Carolina in 1871. It is…read morethe oldest pharmacy in South Carolina as well as the oldest continuously-operating business in Summerville. It was founded by Dr. Henry Charles Guerin. The roots of the pharmacy go back decades earlier. Dr. C.F. Schwettmann owned a drugstore in Charleston, but it was damaged by cannon fire during the Civil War. He set up a new drugstore in Summerville in 1864. In 1871, Guerin (a former Confederate soldier and graduate of the Medical College of South Carolina) purchased the pharmacy and Schwettmann returned to Charleston. After Guerin passed away, the pharmacy was taken over by his son Dr. Joseph C. Guerin. The younger Guerin's colleague Dr. Herbert F. Dunning later purchased the pharmacy. Since 2014, the owner of Guerin's Pharmacy has been Dunning's grand niece Barbara A. Dunning, RPh. My family and I visited Guerin's Pharmacy this past summer while we were visiting family in town. Our cousins told us to check out a really cool old pharmacy in Hutchinson Square. We had no idea that pharmacies like this still existed; we had only seen ones like this in the movies. In addition to a pharmacy, Guerin's also essentially doubles as a general store where customers can purchase souvenirs, postcards, books, t-shirts, etc. Guerin's is also home to a soda fountain, which were popular in drugstores during the first half of the 20th century but rarely seen today. Customers can get Blue Bell brand ice cream, milkshakes, malts, floats, fountain sodas, hotdogs (with or without chili), pickles, or a number of different treats from the candy counter. My wife and I shared a cup of "Mint Chocolate Chip" ice cream while our sons shared a cup of "Cookies 'n Cream". My wife also enjoyed a strawberry milkshake while I had a bottle of Cheerwine. It was so cool to step back in time at Guerin's Pharmacy! We'll definitely visit again on a future trip to Summerville.

He has helped me with awkward questions, prescription issues due to insurance, and over the counter medicine questions. He is patient, helpful, and kind. He is my favorite pharmacist! I recently delt with his partner and he was equally helpful in my prescription issues. They make a good team. I'd recommend this pharmacy over any in the area! When I pick up and a pharmacist assistant helps me, they are always great with customer service too.

Hospital gave me physical prescription-had high hopes of a simple phone call and they tell me to fax the Rx and bring the originals when I come in to pick up.. 30 minutes searching website, calling local #, and calling 800# to speak with someone you can't understand and they get rude when you keep asking them to repeat. Then the call "disconnects" so you start all over. Maybe don't pat yourself on the back on your customer service when you make your customers spend 30 minutes or more trying to get an answer to one question that would take you 30 seconds. Now I have the option of taking these physical copies and have them tell me that it will be two hours to put a few pills in a bottle aaaaand they are out of one of the 4 prescriptions I need so now I am driving around town looking for another option. I had to call to verify medications for a new patient, their voice mail jail is ridiculous, will…read morenot let you talk to anyone and there are no options when calling to verify medications, if you state you are a health care provider, their system ONLY does a phone number search for the local doctors, so that doesn't let you through. Only other option is to give the patients DOB, then the system looks up phone numbers for everyone with that DOB and if it doesn't match doesn't let you do anything but leave a voice mail. Then no one calls you back. I will never use CVS for any of my personal medications, there is absolutely NO customer service, and no one there appears to care. All they want is that prescription and all your money. If you aren't calling for that they have absolutely no use for you, and they let you know it. I'd like to see them go bankrupt.
