He was I think CVS at Van Ness is a good store and it's well run I think the problems that exist on neighborhood problems such as shoplifting. The store is in stock because they have to keep putting things behind glass because of shoplifting. The pharmacy is understaffed at times but Selena and the other lady there I don't know her name the other pharmacist they both try very hard to accommodate customers and do what they can to provide them with their medicine. Part of the problem is customers get angry at the pharmacists when their insurance company won't cover something and the pharmacists are just the messengers they're not making these decisions. People need to keep this in mind when speaking to the pharmacists.b read more

Horrible, hostile customer service, this pharmacy is often out of prescription medicines that are just a wee bit out of the ordinary and are too lazy to reorder them, even when you ask them to. They just tell you to go and look elsewhere. All the people behind the pharmacy counter are foreigners from third-world countries where the notion of customer service is unknown. Following are just a couple of the horrifying experiences that I have had over the years at this pharmacy. A clerk who handed me my medication and sneezed on it with a massive, wall-shaking sneeze, spraying snot all over the bag. When I called him out and insisted he give me a new bag, he refused so I in turn refused to accept the medication. No apology was received from this clerk. Another time, I had a very bad case of pneumonia, and I was actually issued the wrong medication. I only noticed the error after I had walked back home, staggering from fever. I had to send a neighbor to the store to exchange the wrong medicine, which could have killed me, for the correct one. Lately I have had to take my prescription for Mounjaro to another, family-owned pharmacy just across the District Line in suburban Bethesda, Maryland because CVS Van Ness couldn't get any. No such problem with the family-owned pharmacy in Bethesda. I have had countless other episodes with this store over the years, but these instances are the worst. But now we have some competition in the neighborhood, since a Pills Plus Pharmacy recently opened just a few houses down Connecticut Avenue. It is apparently owned and staffed by a pharmacist. I am hearing very good things about the pleasant and efficient customer service there. My exasperation with CVS Van Ness has reached such a level that I am on the verge of transferring all my prescriptions to Pills Plus, despite the inconvenience involved. read more

Great Customer Service! This CVS is located literally above the "Van Ness" Metro Station & across the street is the Univ. of the District of Columbia. I got my errands done quickly. So quick I don't have photos. Visited CVS (Sept. 7, 2021) mid afternoon. The store well stocked. The customer service is great. Ready to checkout A store associate standing @ the front of the store walked me to the Self Checkout & even offered to scan the item for me. I had a large package of paper towels. I scanned my item, system noted a problem. The sales associate quickly returned resolved the issue. I finished checkout & was on my way. Great customer service. read more

Being out of town and in need of some items that I ran out of, this was honestly the best option around. It is a short walk from the Days Inn and kind of convenient. It can be crowded depending on the time of day you go, but it's still manageable. I walked in to get some tissues, water and a few other items. The store layout was easy to navigate and made for a pleasant shopping experience. I was able to find what I needed without any trouble and made my way to the register. Honestly one of the better CVS I have been in. I also have to say that some of their store brands for products are just as good as any name brand out there. If you need to buy something from the store, or print photos, then this location is convenient and easy. But if you need the pharmacy, do yourself a favor and avoid them. They are hands down the worst pharmacy I have ever gone to. Due to the location, I have sadly had to endure them for years, and it has consistently been a struggle. I think I need a prescription for the stress that the staff have caused. The two primary issues are (1) inhumanely rude staff (people this nasty have no right to have any job where they deal with customers, let alone a job where you are supposed to assist people through their stressful medical issues); and (2) they purposely under-staff the location at all hours everyday, so you can never reach them. I routinely spend 20 minutes or more on hold for any little thing, and they usually say call back because we're too busy to deal with you right now. Just picking up a prescription is a stress-filled all-day adventure. Then there is the app. They tout the CVS app as a selling point for choosing them over competitors. But when you use it, the CVS app always says you cannot order through the app and need to call the pharmacy. Then when you call, they say you should go to the app. Don't fall for that, though, because then you will be on hold for 20 more minutes when you call back to tell them the app isn't working. They are good for nothing but making lame excuses. I have finally left CVS behind for good and suggest you do the same. read more

In this country, having a diploma, say pharmacist, does not ensure education and good manners. So it is in this place, after being treated with an attitude of disrespect at the counter by none other than the leader. That in addition to the times when there are only one or two people in attendance and a line waiting. The whole store is a dead place, i never see a Manager, and, amazingly, as per my research, there does not seem to be a District Manager! Be careful with good reviews, they might be years old! I tried a new CVS location over the weekend & the fabulous Lottie with her glowing personality & customer service made my visit pleasant. Aside from her knowledge & eager to assist, I can't recall the last time I was self-entertained picking up my necessities & trying something(s) new out. Lottie extended her good care to other customers while circling back to check on me. After sharing some thoughts on a different facial cleansing regime, Lottie suggested the Neutrogena Microdermabrasion System. It was on sale for $20 & I absolutely like using it. Almost a week in using it & I can see slight improvements already...thanks Lottie! One of the bigger layouts than my normal go-to locations, in addition to the clutter free isles, two workable Self Checkouts...when will CVS get their Apple Pay working? Not to worry, the Uber friendly Sara rang me up & made sure I was able to use all of my coupons. Being open minded & picking up some new items had me earning many cool extrabucks rewards, works for me. Located next to the Van Ness Metro Station (exiting east side) - Red Line. This is a loser of a CVS. Dirty, strewn with litter, shelves sparsely stocked. Today I went in and found that there were neither carts nor baskets available. As in ... none. All gone. "How can that be?", I asked the clerk. "I'd have to ask the manager," was the reply. I didn't recognize this clerk ... the turnover of personnel in this store is phenomenal. Nobody stays for long. I have been using this CVS for four years. It has gone from bad to worse. Oh, and if you want to use the pharmacy, make sure you avoid coming during the lunch break the pharmacy staff takes. read more

Shockingly incompetent, rude, arrogant, and obnoxious staff. Just try and refill a prescription and you will find CVS Pharmacy can't be bothered. The staff told me my prescription was out of refills, but that was a lie. A few days after my request for refill they told me my refill was ready. But that was before I attempted to fill that prescription with another pharmacy using a paper RX order from my doctor. Wait, there's more. Medicare rules allow me to fill certain prescriptions, but CVS refused, telling me Medicare does allow me to fill a prescription ordered by my physician in the manner prescribed. CVS couldn't be bothered. They lied, ignoring Medicare's rules and rejecting out of hand my doctor's request. I have no other option or recourse, but to make a formal complaint to the District of Columbia office of the Attorney General. CVS Pharmacy, you do have to answer to a higher authority. read more

This review is for the pharmacy. My physician's office sent an electronic prescription to this CVS on a Friday around 12:30 pm. I received a text receipt from the physician's office that the Rx was received. I called CVS an hour later to check when my medication would be ready for pick up. After some time, the pharmacy answered, got my information, then put me on hold. When she came back, she hung up on me. I called them back. No answer for 10 minutes. An hour later, someone from CVS called me back (I was not near my phone), but didn't leave a message. Twice more I called the pharmacy before close of business. No answer each time, waiting at least ten minutes. The next day, when I called, the same pharmacist answered the phone and said, "I told you yesterday that we didn't receive your e-Rx because our system was down". I told her no one spoke to me, and no one answered 2 out of my 3 calls. It's obvious what happened Friday. The pharmacist put me on hold because they were overwhelmed due to the system being down, she disconnected intentionally and then asked a tech to call me back. The tech did not speak to me nor leave a message, but the pharmacist assumed the tech did, without checking with them. Or the tech lied. Then when I called the same day, twice after, never having received any information, they recognized my number (evidenced by the fact the pharmacist Saturday began addressing my issue on the phone before receiving any identifying information from me) and ignored my calls. The pharmacist thought that I'd received the info that they'd not received the RX and felt it had been handled on their end so why take my call? The result of all this?? I now do not have the medication which was ABSOLUTELY NEEDED on Friday -- until Monday - at the earliest. All because the pharmacist didn't pick up the phone Friday, thinking it would be a waste of her time. If she had, I could have called the MD's office and they would have called it in that day. But she waited until Saturday to talk to me, when it was less busy and convenient for her. My physicians office is closed over the weekend. She knew exactly who I was just by my number. Because of this, I'm without medication for over three days - which will cause SIGNIFICANT problems. It was all the fault of the pharmacy. read more

If you have a scheduled prescription, don't expect them to actually use that information in advance. I had a prescription where I was out of medication and scheduled for refill today and need to be on. I received a message at 3:55 pm that they were out of stock and had to order it. I called (after holding) and asked if they can do a partial refill and they can't and said I had to call other pharmacies. I asked if they can please look up if other CVS's have this in stock, and was put on hold and had to re-explain the entire issue to someone and finally got some CVS locations out of them. Luckily, the first CVS pharmacy i called in Tenleytown actually picked up, pulled over the prescription, and refilled it immediately. On my way home, I stopped by this CVS to ask how this happened, and the pharmacist was completely unapologetic and says they just pull down the list for the day and do not looked at scheduled prescriptions in advance. She kept emphasizing how many prescriptions they fill and clearly did not care one bit that they screwed me over with such a poor process. read more

@cvspharmacy I went to the CVS on 4309 Connecticut AVE NW where I am a frequent customer. On 06/14/2020 I went in there to buy @tide detergent that was on sale for $11.94. I went down the aisle where they typical have it but were out of stock. They did how ever have a smaller size. I picked up 6 of them and a drink and headed to the register. I noticed that they had the Tide for $11.94 behind the register. I asked the cashier can I have two of those. I also told her that I will put the Tide that I was going to purchase back. After she rang me up I went to return the original Tide that I was going to purchase back on the shelf. As I was doing so, I notice the security guard watching me. Once I was finish I headed to the exit and I saw the manager Dana starts to yell "Robinson! Robinson!" I didn't pay it any attention. As I am about to walk out the door, The manager cuts me off and says to me, he needs to check my bag. I was shocked and stunned as to why he needed to check my bag. As I open my bag to show him my purchase the security guard says "Oh he bought that" I walked out in disbelief. Not only was this humiliating but also degrading. In these times I would assume that people would have positive intent. I will not patrionoze this location again. @cvspharmacy this unacceptable. What hurts the most is that I have been going to this location about 4 to 6 times in a week for over 2 1/2 years and have a great repior with the cashiers there. ....#BLM read more

I am SO DISAPPOINTED in the pharmacy here. FOUAD (from the West Virginia location), first you need to lower your voice. You're handling private issues for patients. Second, you're a terrible listener. Telling a patient who doesn't appear to have memory issues that they've never picked up a prescription there (especially when they live nearby and pick up ALLLLLL their prescriptions there, and there is ample evidence they've frequented that location) makes little sense. So puffing out your chest, and attempting to make me feel as if it's my fault you have a long line of customers waiting is stupid, wrong, and rude. Let's look at the facts, so we can understand why you all made me late for class today and gave me a headache: 1) I stand in the long pick up line. You didn't have my recurrent prescription ready. 2) You didn't have the script ready that my Dr. called in TWO DAYS PRIOR 3) You told me I'd never had the recurrent prescription filled there before 4) I told you that was false. I not only had it filled there. I took it for a month. You told me I was wrong. 5) I had to then drive home and get the prescription bottle to show you. 6) You never apologized for calling me a liar, but found a NEW way to call me a liar by telling me I picked it up at a store whose pharmacy i'd ever been at. 7) I asked for the manager, you told me he was out. I asked for the person above him. You told me the general store manager. 8) I speak to him. He tells me he can't really do much, and I have to wait until he speaks to the pharmacy manager. (Doesn't really sound like he's ABOVE the pharmacy manager, even though that's what I asked for). 9) You told me the bottle I brought was an inactive prescription and that my doctor called and told you to inactivate it, then later told me you don't have the power to see the real reason it was inactivated bc it was filled at another store. 10) I tell you it might've been filled there, but I'VE never been there. You tell me they have cameras (I guess this is when I'm meant to be scared, bc picking up/not picking up prescriptions is a criminal offense for which I can do jail time). 11) You go so far as to call and ask them the date and time it was picked up. I wasn't even in the state then, but WHATEVER. While you're on the phone figure out why it was inactivated, to which you respond "technical error) I CANT!!!! That basically means you all made a mistake with the script, and once again can't admit it. 12) I suggest AGAIN, you all call patients/doc when a dr. calls and you don't have the product to fill a prescription. 13) You THEN tell me the second prescription I need will need to be specially ordered, but that can't happen until TOMORROW, and it will take 2-3 days after it's ordered to be filled. ~I'm actually tired of typing. It got worse, but this is enough for you and others to know YOU ALL NEED MORE TRAINING, bc your skills are severely lacking. Let's look at a model example: I leave you, and decide visiting that other store might not be a bad idea. Walk in, and am reaffirmed in my knowledge that I've never been to this foreign pharmacy counter before. They let me know they have the prescriptions I need. I get my doc to transfer my scripts at your garbage location, have it moved there, and w/in 15 minutes they'd filled both prescriptions AND sent me texts to notify me. EASY. Fouad NOWWWWW you can say I've been there, and NOWWWWW they'll have me on their cameras. This ordeal wasn't all Fouad (but you're a terrible listener, just waiting to interject your thought, no matter what I say), and it wasn't a one off. It's an issue I've had there before (check the reviews, lots of people have), recommended someone call the doctor when they don't have the medicine my doctor has called in, only to be told I'm wasting their time, or be ignored totally. WHY AREN'T YOU LETTING SOMEONE KNOW YOU CAN'T FILL MY RX???? THE EASIEST ISSUE TO FIX. THROW THE WHOLE PHARMACY AWAY AND UNTIL YOU TRAIN THEM PROPERLY DON'T LET THEM WORK AT THE PHARMACY COUNTER AGAIN. They're not pushing greeting cards. This is someone's HEALTH and LIFE. Take your job more seriously, and have some pride in your work. read more

The reason I'm giving this CVS 5 stars, is all based on them being consistently friendly and helpful at all times. Even in the face of some of the rudest customers I've seen. I'm here all the time, and see the same faces every time. Even on my worst days, they seem to be positive and always seeing if a need help finding anything. This particular CVS has helped me out in a pinch many times since I've moved to the Van Ness area. Today, I was running late from my apartment and realized I forgot some important *cough* things that I forgot to stick in my bag. Already running a bit behind, I didn't have time to run back up to my apartment. Since CVS is so conveniently located right next to the metro, I was able to run in, find what I needed, do the self-check-out and be back on my way to work. I ended up not getting too much further behind schedule so it was a trip well worth it. Aside from today, I've had other good experiences here - always find what I need and I never stand in line for too long when I use their self-checkout. Also, on the one occasion where I had to return an item, it was super easy and quick! -1 star for the 2 occasions when I bought chocolate that had been kind of old. -------- 2.20.08 Update The last time I was here I used the self-checkout and in the middle of my transaction, the computer froze and I had to move to another register to pay. We figured since the computer froze that my credit card wasn't charged and we just had to ring everything in again. Unfortunately this wasn't the case when I checked my bill and found that my card was charged twice. I came in yesterday to be reimbursed for the second charge. I was worried that they wouldn't do it or would be a bit disgruntled. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The manager was really friendly and apologetic and made sure my credit card was fully reimbursed. So CVS gets +1 star . read more

If you live in the area, try the Tenleytown CVS instead. At Van Ness, I've only ever encountered long lines here and problematic self check-outs. Sometimes they have good deals, and I recommend using your CVS card because it gives you dollars back off your next purchases. However, I try to avoid this place as much as possible and get everything from the Giant next door. read more

It's a CVS. No qualms about the selection or layout of the store. This is conveniently located right by the Van Ness metro stop. It's a good go-to when locals don't feel like going into Giant for something quick. I do like that there are two self checkouts, but if you go in during any relatively busy hours, there is often a long line as it seems that only one other check-out attendant is usually manning the storefront. read more

This pharmacy gave me expired medication. When I brought it to the attention of the pharmacist he asked me if I took it, lucky i didn't. He said I would have sharp stomach pains and would be vomiting and in the ER...all he could offer me was an apology and refilled the prescription...I'm questionable about this pharmacy. read more

I've never been to one of the seemingly amazing CVS pharmacies that everyone else is compariing this one to. They're all just "meh". This one is equally "meh" but I'm generally able to get what I want/need when I want/need it. My prescriptions get filled with minimum hassle and self checkout does as it says. There is really nothing about this particular CVS that makes it special. The staff is often very slow, and the self check out scanners do not always work. More importantly, something I value most is the photography department. With this particular CVS being the most convenient, I frequent it quite often whenever I need prints. Unfortunately, the printers they have don't seem to print quality photographs. It could have something to do with irregular maintenance, but I've essentially given up on getting my photos developed here. Conveniently, the Walgreens right next door is finally open, and they have done a stellar job so far. read more

I patronize many different CVSs around the area. I like this one for a variety of reasons. First off, the pharmacy is definitely one of the more proficient ones. I was a pharm tech before going to college and I know that it does not take 20 to 30 minutes to fill someone's topical antibiotic (even during busy hours). This pharmacy is quick and courteous. This CVS validates parking for one hour in the garage adjacent to Giant. The self check out here is very convenient (not all CVSs have this). This is not one of the biggest or newest CVSs, but it usually has the sale items from the flyer - I hate when I drive to get a sale item and it is sold out. The employees here do not always have a light bulb on upstairs and sometimes are even rude, but I don't have to deal with them often with a self check out. All in all, a great CVS. read more

I just got home a couple of minutes ago from this CVS and thought of writing a review about how unqualified this lady named "DEE." I have been going to this CVS for the longest time but I would not let this night pass without mentioning how impolite, uneducated and discourteous this attendant is. She could not identify the similarities and difference of a coupon and the CVS card. When she finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel after our heated discussion, she did not apologize for her mistake but instead passed me to another cashier to save her face. Try to use the self check-out counter because it makes more sense to deal with a machine than talk to DEE or rather ask the help of the other CVS cashiers because 99% of them act with class and refinement. Two words.... TASTY KAKES!!!!!!! Ok I'm a West Coast guy born and raised, but I love my Tasty Kakes! I forgot I was on the East Coast... So one night going back to our hotel we stopped by the nearest CVS and what do I see right on front of me, a whole stand of my favorite treats! I was dumbfounded and grabbed two boxes and quick as I could! I was very happy to taste those delicious desserts once again, and thank you CVS for making this special moment happen! Why work in the area of customer service if you resent serving customers? The pharmacy staff members really need to be trained. With the exception of one very nice pharmacist, a lady who has been there since I relocated to the area almost 3 years ago, they are generally rude, disrespectful, and lack professionalism. A newer pharmacist (who I heard someone refer to as the manager on staff) seems to go out of her way to be rude and unpleasant through very basic refill transactions and it's unacceptable quite frankly, especially if she is setting the moral for her staff members. If the location was not so convenient I would relocate my prescription in a heartbeat, as I'm sure other customers already have. TRAIN YOUR PHARMACISTS.
