Chris made a bunch of mistakes. He came back and fixed a few of those, but never came back and fixed the ones that I asked him to fix later. One of the posts is not attached to the brick column. In addition, my guy is telling me that the two gates that put in are no longer functional. I've told this, but he has ghosted me. He certainly cashed my check ASAP. I wouldn't use him again for all the money in the world. He's a crook as far as I can tell. He is incredibly expensive and does incredibly sloppy work. read more

I had Chris install a deck and fencing about 5 years ago. When we decided to put a roof over the deck, I called him back. I contacted him on a Saturday night. He answered, gave me a quote over the phone from a few pictures and came out on Sunday to take a look. He helped us through the permit process with the city and once permit was received, he finished in the three days he said it would take. I will call him again when needed. read more

Just had my fence replaced by Chris with CW Fencing. The process was started with removal of my old fence and installing new post. He initially quoted a three day turnaround but, unfortunately, it took two weeks, no fault of his. it was due to weather, as we have been having rainy, severe storms almost non-stop. At the first sign of a break, his crew and he were here to complete the job. During this entire process, Chris kept in constant contact providing updates to make sure I understood the delay. He even agreed and came out during a small weather window to get one of gates installed for needed access to the yard. Chris was very pleasant and professional to work with, took care to carefully move and put back my yard decor, very mindful of the flower beds, and cleaned up all debris. SCAM - TOOK MY MONEY AND NO FENCE. We moved into the Tollgate neighborhood in the fall of 2019. While we had a great experience with various vendors during and after construction of our home, I was quite disappointed by the fence company we hired - CW Fence and Deck. We made our decision based on Google reviews, only to find out most of the reviews left were fake and by his own family members and himself. It's easy to spot now based on his writing style and grammatical errors. We paid $5,100 in a deposit about a month before our close date so we could ensure we could start the fence upon closing. The start was very important to us, which is why we started the process so early. We were told this would not be a problem! Unfortunately, upon closing, we couldn't get the owner to give us a start date, just a vague 'maybe next week' if the weather permits - let's be real, we've had a beautiful fall and mild winter. After weeks of asking, we finally stated we would like our money back. This is when Chris Waller (the owner) sent us a rapid fire of such aggressive and rude emails that is not appropriate for us to share, said we ruined his Thanksgiving among other things, etc. We definitely didn't feel comfortable or safe with him setting foot on our property. This was very unprofessional and unsettling coming from a business owner to a paying customer. Chris Waller/CW Fence & Deck has refused to give us our money back and threatened to take me to court over lost future wages...for a job he never did. We attempted to agree to a loss of 20% per his contract for aluminum materials just so we could be done, but he refused to provide any proof our fence was ever ordered. This is when he fully stopped communicating with us. Looking back, there were many red flags. While his website said he accepted credit cards, he would only take a check. After our 1st meeting, he hounded me three times for a check in one day because he told me I needed to pay a deposit in order for him to hand over a drawing to give to our HOA (which ended up being denied because he couldn't even provide a correct drawing which I had to correct myself.) Considering he cashed my check immediately, I am wondering if my deposit was used to pay for something else. Other red flags included me having to ask for a photo of what the aluminum fence would look like. I also sent him the brick information as he never bothered to ask for this information (we needed this to build masonry columns to match our home). I regularly had to contact him when it should have been his job to ask me all this information. After speaking with the Williamson County Clerk of Courts, I was shocked to find open cases against him for similar fence issues. I contacted a few of the other homeowners and this seems to be a common theme - take money but not do any work. I am amazed he can be in business and prey upon so many homeowners. If you are looking for a fence company, we do not recommend CW Fence and Deck. I would give 0 stars if possible. read more

AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS!! This guy is an absolute nightmare. The wood is horrible quality and not uniform. He threw this shotty job up in a few hours and left. The gate was on backwards and was unusable and there are nails sticking out without posts all throughout. The slats were bowing by 24 hours, and not a single post is the correct 6ft apart; in fact, no two are the same distance at all. There is also a huge gap varying in size all the way around the bottom. Chris was extremely unprofessional, rude, and off putting. We called him back to tell him how unhappy we were and he told us it was our problem, and walked away from us mid sentence. Be wary of Chris. His work is appalling and his attitude and professionalism are even worse. This is the state of our fence after less that 5 years. According to several companies who have reviewed his work he cut corners on lumber, using non pressure treated boards of different sizes. Even stained immediately, the fence is literally falling down less than 5 years later. My wife made the second mistake of calling him for repairs. He charges her $600 for a service call then never returned, stating he only said he'd fix his terrible work for free if he got around to it and the money was for the service call. They built my wood privacy fence in March of 2015, and I am more than dissatisfied... Here are all the things that are wrong with my fence: 1. Multiple sections of the fence have a smaller pickets 2. None of the sections between posts are the same distance, ranging from 6' to 8', then the last one is 10'...REALLY??? 3. A lot of the spacing between the pickets is off or crooked, even in the front, facing the street. 4. The posts he installed were totally eff'd, with big gashes, seems like he gets the rejected wood to save a buck 5. There's a huge gap between the fence and the gate door 6. Gate isn't wide enough to get a ride-on mower through, something I didn't know to consider but he should've alerted me to. He had to come back because we noticed one of the pickets was not nailed in at the top and there was a nail sticking out of another post. Upon completing the job there were piles of rubble left in my yard that was dug up to accommodate the fence posts. Plus, not only did he tell me that the fence would be sealed when I confirmed over the phone, but he fully backed out when I inquired after it was installed. I'm apart of an HOA that requires this, so I wanted it to be included...should've got it in writing I suppose. When he asked for the final payment, I shouldn't have given it to him until I was satisfied. However, I did get him down a few hundred dollars. Absolutely the worst contractor I have ever had to deal with. Would not get a building permit. The deck was not built to minimum building standards. Dealing with Chris it absolutely one of the worst nightmares I have ever had to deal with. The craftsmanship Is terrible. Tried to overcharge me after the contract was signed. The deck boards are warped and 4 x 4 railings are crack and separating. Poor quality of wood choice. Bragged about how fast he could build the deck. fast equals poor quality and it shows. Spent over $8000 on a fringe that is now crooked, boards bowing & now driveway gate is falling apart. We have called Chris, the owner several times & he says he will come by just to fix the gate not the boards b/c they are out of warranty time even though we had it put up less than 6 months. This guy is a scam artist. I talked my neighbors into using him to replace a fence between our houses and had to apologize to them all after it was done. He uses substandard materials. The planks are varying widths apart. Some are three inches, some are four and some are almost five inches apart! It's not level at the top and I see lots of nails that aren't even nailed in to anything. Boards are already starting to warp. I made him move one of them because it was so crooked and he Asked me where I wanted it. ??? Seriously???? I thought you were supposed to use a tape measure and a level. CW Fence and deck built my fence in Jul 2013. Upon completion I approached CW Fence and let them know I was dissatisfied with the stain. He told me it would even out after a "few rains." It did not. I called CW on 13 April 2014 to let him know that boards on my fence were detaching, could he please repair them? He told me that was not covered on the warranty. I asked to see a copy of the warranty and he refused. I then began to further inspect my fence and found that more boards were detaching, the vertical slats were not evenly spaced and he said he had no control over the distance between the slats, the stain had not been applied evenly, he failed to put a 2x4 post in concrete which should have been a 4x4 post in concrete adjacent to my home. I can push that part of the fence over by hand. The gate does not close properly. There are multiple areas where it looks as though two pieces of boards were used to make one board so the aesthetics of the fence are very poor. The quality of craftsmanship is very poor. The top of the fence is uneven all the way around the yard. He also challenged me on the phone to say these things to his face, which I felt was an aggressive approach. He ultimately said he would not be coming to my home and hung up on me. I would encourage others to not choose CW Fence and Deck if you are looking for a quality built fence. read more

To all the new residents of Williamson County and the Nashville metro, avoid CW Fence at all costs. IF they get around to building your fence within 3 months of signing an agreement consider yourself lucky. Either someone is being trained, someone has left, they're delayed from "rain" even during weeks of pure sunshine, or some other excuse. When they do get around to building it they may or may not use your specifications, and they may or may not build it to code, and in most cases they will magically discover "rock" that requires extra drilling to the tune of $500+ that they won't tell you about until the fence goes in. Oh, and they likely won't use the same materials as agreed upon either, so what you end up with is a roll of the dice. On top of all that, we had an issue after the fact with the fence workmanship and they refused to cooperate. We had to bring in a different contractor to repair what CW installed, and unsurprisingly this new company found no rocks require drilling or any other impedance. Caveat emptor to the max. read more

Hired CW Fence. He sold me on doing a cedar fence instead of pressure treated pine and I am glad I did. It is a much better look, the color is beautiful. They delivered on time, despite rain several days and neighbors who initially did not like me putting a fence up. But when finished, even the neighbors had to admit, it was beautiful. Chris the owner was on site every day working with his crew and answering my questions. He handled the rain delays and the neighbors coming over with professionalism. Read the contract though, the price he gives initially does not include digging through "rock and root", removing brush, any changes to plan due to working around utilities. Best to have them mark the utilities before they give you a price. Change orders increased the initial price by 25%. Still very happy with the fence. read more

DO NOT HIRE. DO YOUR RESEARCH. My husband and I did not read all of the reviews that were available to us at the time. Regretfully, we hired CW due to his kind nature on the phone and when he came to our house to measure for a quote. DO NOT FALL FOR HIS INTIAL KINDNESS. We were told that we could choose any style wood, deck and railings we desired, and if we could furnish some photos, CW Fence would build to our specifications. Photos were sent, contract was signed and money was exchanged for the deck project. We tore our deck down ourselves, to save a few thousand bucks, on CW Fence & Deck's timeline. We were without a deck for over a month, due to all of the delays on the part of the company. When I called to ask for our money back and that we would go with someone else that could get to the project in a more timely manner, he screamed at me on the phone and told me that his wife had just had her tonsils removed and that he had to take care of his six sick children. I fell for it, felt bad for the guy, and allowed the project to continue, regretfully, waiting another two weeks past the second promised date to start. MAKE CW FENCE PULL PERMITS AS STATED ON THEIR CONTRACT. READ THE FINE PRINT. We ended up pulling the permit on our deck ourselves, after the deck was completed (yes, per the codes office, that is completely legal, just not preferred). CW Fence came to our home to build the deck on days when my husband and I were both working, and started the project. the holes were dug and footers poured, but that's the last of the good news. Once the deck was completed, we pulled the permit and the inspectors noted a lot of discrepancies. This is the reason Chris Waller did not want to pull a permit, so that corners could be cut, and work could be done as quickly as possible. The wood is a lesser quality than was promised and the screws and nails (we were only supposed to have screws) are not exterior, they are interior grade (read: cheaper). The wood stairs leading to the deck start at 18" off the ground. My elderly mother cannot use that step and has to go through the garage to enter the house. There are no railings on the stairs, and the steps that we had agreed upon to step up from the lawn onto the main deck are altogether missing. There is, instead, a 36" drop, with no stairs or railing, to the ground from the edge of the deck. All of this was discussed and agreed to, example photos sent and understood, prior to the deck project beginning. Needless to say, there are six codes violations that are so gross, that we are in the process of taking the deck apart and re-building it ourselves. The cost of doing so is going to far exceed the original deck cost and at such a great amount of time. Since the "date of completion" we have been hounded with phone calls and emails to send the remaining amount of money on the contract. We have politely refused to pay for a job left half-done. One of these emails stated that one of his workers had fallen over a rock in our garden and was going to be out of work for six weeks. Chris Waller then asked for our homeowners insurance. DO NOT FALL FOR THIS. He is supposed to be licensed and bonded (insured) for workman's comp. We have also been threatened, lied to and downright insulted. As one other reviewer said, he does include his religious beliefs in both his sales pitch and his threats to us by insulting our religious beliefs after his job was left uncompleted. Beware of this company! Waste of money and shady work! Bad communication/ Liar! Was promised the fence would be done within two weeks after we gave him a deposit. It was well over a month and there weren't any weather issues. Then one day he just shows up and starts digging for the post unannounced. During some warranty issues (yes warranty issues, he will need to come back to fix his mistakes) he tone was aggressive and took several more weeks for him to address. He will lie to you as well, when asked about staining my fence; he said to wait a couple weeks for the wood to dry out. Well within a couple of days some boards were splitting and the frame was pulling away from the post. He said that "If you have not sealed it than that's the problem" I reminded him of our conversation about staining and when should it be done and he said "I didn't say wait a couple weeks and that he would never tell his customers to wait to sell" Total Lie!!! He also said that he would send a crew out in a couple days to nail the frame back to the post. Still waiting on that to happen! Reckless! When he showed up unannounced and started dig for the post, he didn't call before he dig to check for underground utilizes. Or even check where my irrigation system is and actually install the gate directly above a sprinkler head. He told me that he didn't need to call because "He knew there isn't anything back here" Not only did he put the gate right on top of a sprinkler he came with inches of hitting a underground line. Scam! Once he has started, he will scam more payment in cash! He demanded I pay an extra $150 in cash because he allegedly broke a tool. Apparently this is a normal practice for him as other has reported the same thing. Horrible quality! As mentioned above the wood started to split and the frame started to pull away from the post within a couple of days. But that is just the beginning. When the job was so called completed, he left all the debris and bags of quickcrete in my yard. I had to clean up nails, piles of debris from his mess. Also I had to go and buy myself handles for the gates. He didn't even put handles on the gates to pull open or close the gates. Many boards where not even and not nailed in! I still find lose boards today almost a year later. Within a couple of months the fence started to lean over and was falling down. That took another couple weeks for him just to come out and push some quickcrete around 1.. Yeah just one post! He literally just pushed the fence back and his helper put some quickcrete around a post and stomp it down and used a rock to hold it in place. He tied the end of the fence into the outside of an existing fence instead of post and now that fence is damaged because of how he nailed into the outside board instead of the frame. The gates pulled away from the frame as well because he only used two cheap hinges on 48in wide heavy gates. They needed 3 hinges on gates that size. Also the lack bolts he used were way to short and pulled right out. The issues go on and on. I have never had a disappointing experience like this in my life. He just isn't a good business person, the work is horrible and illegal and he will scam once he starts. I hope no one else will have the experience of dealing with CW fence company and have to constantly to this day still fix the a fence not even a year old. I won't even both dealing with them now, because it's not worth the argument and if the company is named after him. If he take pride on his work with his name on it the first time, why trust him to fix it. If I could rate lower I would. Dishonest business owner who invoked the name of Jesus in his sales pitch then failed to follow through on his promises and was dishonest. Posts were supposed to be set in concrete- dozens were not, and most others had minimal concrete. Gates were incorrect size- failed to fix. Owner cornered my wife, intimidated her and made her pay a "rock clause" of $350 when there were very little rocks in my yard. Scam. On property signed price quote of $1,900 provided to complete request. finished half of the work then requested additional $2,500 to finish. Purchase Date: October 26, 2016 Problem Date: November 23, 2016 Quote Amount: $1,900 Payment Amount: $3,500 Dispute Amount: $1,600 Payment Method: Checks (2 checks for $1,000 and $2,500) Requested CW Fence and Deck to provide a quote back in mid-October 2016 to perform two services: 1.)Bringing 4 fence gates and locks to code in Franklin TN. given we had a pool in our backyard. 2.) Provide options, given rot iron fence, to lessen gap between posts so our 2 small dogs could not squeeze through anywhere. They surveyed the property stating $1,900.00 that would include the 4 gates and "wrapping" the fence with wire zip tied to the fence throughout the entire backyard. I responded with question around cost for each item -- they replied back $550 for the 4 gates and $1,350 for the wrapping of the fence including labor. I called them on October 24th and we set a time to meet with Chris from CW Fence and Deck at the house at 5:00pm on October 26, 2016. He showed up early at the house, around 4:00pm (again was live of the property where the work was to be performed) and provided my wife with a Proposal and Agreement to sign. Since they were early, I was not present, he left before I arrived at 5:00pm. The signed agreement was for $1,900 and included the request for a $1,000 check up front as a deposit with $900 due on completion. My wife provided him with a check of $1,000 for the deposit as requested. I contacted them again on November 18, 2016 inquiring as to when they might start/finish the work given no one had contacted me since they cashed the $1,000 deposit check. Talked to a lady in the office that informed me it would be Wednesday of the next week. On November 23, 2016 they showed up at the house in the morning to complete the work. My wife was home but I was not. During the morning they approached my wife and told her the fence was only half done but they would need another $1,600 to complete the rest of the fence. Under duress, my wife agreed to have the work completed seeing as she saw no other option given only half the fence was completed. She felt cornered and scammed. Once they determined they had finished, they knocked on the door and asked my wife for the additional $2,500 check ($900 original due + $1,600 additional). My wife provided them with a check for the entire $2,500 amount requested. When I arrived home later that day I noticed the work had not been completed - a portion of the fence was not wrapped. I contacted them by phone the morning of October 28, 2016 to inform them that they did not complete the work and inquiring about when they would return to complete. I also asked they to clarify the discrepancy between the $1,900 quote for the services and the $3,500 in total they requested from my wife as payment for he services. They stated that I told them I needed 250CN feet of wire and the need was double that amount? -- I have no idea how much CN ft. were needed to complete the work since fencing is not an area of expertise. I do not even know how big a space makes up a CN ft. -- that is why we contacted a fence company -- for their expertise in this area. He had no interest in discussing the issue further. They surveyed the property twice before any contract was signed, therefore they should have been in a great position to accurately estimate the cost to complete the entire job requested. I have zero expertise in fencing and yard dimensions, why I looked for expertise in this area. I had this co put up a fence in Jan 2015. They started later than planned and once the posts were in immediately my yard guys told me they were not fence posts they were cheap 2x4 not meant for fencing, but when I asked him he said the guy didn't know what he was talking about. Once done it was attached to my house very flimsy and I asked if I could have is sprayed and sealed and the cost, he said yes. A few months went by and I contacted again and asked about staining because boards were detaching and he said well you should of had it sealed and stained. I told him the posts are also cracking and he again said becaus it wasn't stained. So I said that's what I thought you were going to come back and do. Then he contacted me a couple days later said he drove by and say no boards detaching when you can clearly see one whole side of the fence bowing from the street. After that never heard from him again, until his crazy wife started calling my phone out of the blue and showing up at my house over a year later, which btw I have no idea who she is saying that I had an affair with this horrible fence building person who never came back to complete the fence or fix the now falling apart fence that was just built in 2015. The absolute worst company, super unprofessional, horrible quality and so much drama it's shocking.
