Note this building has no elevator. Our king suite is a large room. Just what we wanted after several days driving. High ceilings and one large window overlooking the parking lot, Sink is in room next to a small area to hang clothes with an iron, board and luggage rack. Toilet and tub/shower room across from th bsink. Besides the king bed the room includes a good size desk area with lamp, sofa, side chair and coffee table. A dresser holds the TV, a microwave, fridge, ice bucket and plastic cups. Coffee maker is on the counter next to the sink. The bed was comfortable as were the pillows. The room temperature good. There were some cosmetic issues, but it also appears the hotel is making upgrades like 2 new hooks in the bathroom and new shower surround. So the important items are as you would want them. Breakfast from 6am -10am off the lobby includes coffee from a machine, juices, waffles, biscuits, sausage, scrambled eggs, cereals, apples, toast and yogurt. An ice machine and two vending machines are around the corner from the lobby. Restaurant, grocery and a few other business nearby. Close to the highway. Plenty of parking. Quiet.

Do Not Stay Here - Bed Bugs, Poor Management, and No Accountability…read moreI stayed at the Baymont Inn in Harlan, Iowa, on Saturday, July 19, 2025, and it was one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had. On Sunday morning, I was informed by other guests that the hotel had a bed bug issue--something that was never disclosed to me when I checked in. My sister's boyfriend even spoke with the front desk and that person said, yea we get them from time to time and we just spray for them - GROSS Once I found out, I immediately packed up and checked out. The front desk clerk refunded me for Sunday night and allowed early check-out, but I was still charged for Saturday night--even though I would have never stayed had I known the hotel had a bed bug situation. As a result, I had to take urgent and expensive steps to prevent contamination of my home: I washed and heat-treated all my clothes, blankets, pillows, and bags at a commercial laundromat. I also had to take additional precautions to protect my home and car. This was stressful, time-consuming, and costly--all because the hotel failed to be transparent. When I called to speak with the General Manager, I was shocked by how I was treated. She denied there were bed bugs, got defensive when I mentioned other small black bugs I saw crawling on the wall in my room, and then accused me of lying. She told me I was "making things up" because I hadn't mentioned the black bugs earlier. She dismissed my valid concern that the situation had caused me significant stress, saying that I "chose" to spend the money on precautions and that it was not her problem. When I asked why there were large drying or industrial machines set up in the downstairs hallway, she said it wasn't a flood issue--it was foundation issues on that side of the building. And when I asked about getting the room inspected, she told me, "If you want, you can report me to the state and they'll come inspect it." Her tone made it seem like she wasn't concerned at all--perhaps because this is a very small town and she likely knows who those inspectors are. That's just my assumption, but the dismissiveness was loud and clear. The front desk staff, while polite, looked visibly uncomfortable and avoided eye contact the entire time I was gathering my things--as if they knew something and didn't want to get involved. My brother and sister were also staying at the hotel, and they are just as disgusted by the situation. None of us should've been put in this position--and the manager's refusal to take any responsibility is appalling. Avoid this hotel at all costs. Baymont and Wyndham should be ashamed to have this property under their name.

Friendly staff and a general manager that is a motorcycle enthusiast willing to share a little…read moreknowledge about the area highways, clean rooms, comfy beds, strong water pressure in the showers, along with a modest breakfast from 6 am - 10 am make this a decent value for a single king size room under $95 including tax. Personally my room was on the second floor down at the south end, you enter near the north end on the east side of the hotel so my walk, if I opted to stay inside and not park at the south end and enter through the south door, was about as far as you can walk within the building. Uncovered, but still they have, motorcycle parking was near the main entrance which is why I chose not to park at the south end. The south end entrance is locked after 11pm too and you can not access even if you have a room key (or at least I didn't see the option to unlock it using mine). So you could actually walk in through the south end and be just fine; however, they do not have an elevator or at least not one that I noticed for guests. The hotel is firm on their policy of no boisterous behavior which made for a very quiet hallway and quiet night. The king room I had was very spacious, I prolly could of had a meeting with 8 people in there and it would not have been crowded. Alos there is a refrigerator in everyroom so you can provide cool beverages. The rooms also have hair dryers, ironing boards, an iron, and a solid channel line up on the tv, The air conditioner cooled my room down to a balmy 66 degrees and with the curtains drawn and the lights off there was no ambient light even after dawn. So on that aspect alone it is worthy of a solid 3.5 stars. The only thing keeping this hotel from receiving 5 stars in my book is that they do not have a restaurant within easy walking distance or an elevator. Food option are limited as it seems this quiet town rolls up the sidewalks after 6pm but it's a nice hotel with a friendly staff offering all the necessary items you need for a good night's rest and relaxation. The pool is indoors and open from 7am until 10pm.

Looked online and found "Pet friendly" hotels listed but when we got to the hotels, they either were not "Pet friendly" or they had a 20lb max. Well one of our dogs is a 90lb German Shepherd so we were now stressed out, our dogs were hungry and anxious, we had no idea what we were going to do! We stopped on the side of the road to see IF we had any options and a deputy pulled up, asked for driver's license, insurance and wanted to know what we were doing?? We explained our situation and after he ran our information, he told us to go to this hotel. When we arrived, we were met with a friendly and inviting staff!! There was nothing but positive energy and good vibes!! The rooms were clean, and the hotel was so quiet. The awesome staff told us to park in the back under the camera so our SUV can be watched (we had a basket on the back and a 60-inch tv on top). Our continental breakfast was delicious, and we were so happy to have found this hotel. The only complaint is every time we took our dogs out the maid kept asking us if we were leaving so she could come in our room, but it was only 7:00am - 8:30am, it was annoying.

They helped me find several fun things to do in Red Oak and the cities surrounding it. I definitely loved their helpfulness. Lobby/entrance: The lobby is a decent size lobby with plenty of places to sit at. I always love when a hotel has a porta cochère and this hotel has one! Breakfast area: So a continental breakfast is included with your stay. It's a very minimal breakfast. If it doesn't fill you up you can go to the restaurant they have on site or to the McDonald's right down the street. Rooms: The rooms are very large and spacious for a standard type room! I really enjoyed the extra space. Parking: It's free and they have a very large parking lot! Downfalls: 1. There was never anyone standing at the front desk. Whenever I needed someone I had to push a doorbell to get someone to come out from the back. I felt like I was disturbing them whenever I pushed that button. 2. Yes the rooms were huge but the bathrooms were very small. If I had a bathroom that was 1 foot bigger then it would be perfect. 3. Booking this hotel can only be done by calling. Yes I understand this is a small town and not a lot of tourist come to red oak. However it would have been nice if you allowed online bookings on either your website or through Expedia. When I was looking for a hotel to stay at your hotel didn't immediately pop up. I booked your hotel after I talked to my friends and we all agreed to stay there. Overall it's a good hotel and if I'm in red oak I will stay here again.

A FINE PLACE IN A SMALL IOWA TOWN…read more This is not a deluxe hotel, but for the small town of Red Oak, it more than meets the need. If you are in the area for business or visiting, this is a clean hotel, nice lobby, rooms are large with moderate decor. It features a restaurant and lounge, and the service is very warm and friendly.
