Note this building has no elevator. Our king suite is a large room. Just what we wanted after several days driving. High ceilings and one large window overlooking the parking lot, Sink is in room next to a small area to hang clothes with an iron, board and luggage rack. Toilet and tub/shower room across from th bsink. Besides the king bed the room includes a good size desk area with lamp, sofa, side chair and coffee table. A dresser holds the TV, a microwave, fridge, ice bucket and plastic cups. Coffee maker is on the counter next to the sink. The bed was comfortable as were the pillows. The room temperature good. There were some cosmetic issues, but it also appears the hotel is making upgrades like 2 new hooks in the bathroom and new shower surround. So the important items are as you would want them. Breakfast from 6am -10am off the lobby includes coffee from a machine, juices, waffles, biscuits, sausage, scrambled eggs, cereals, apples, toast and yogurt. An ice machine and two vending machines are around the corner from the lobby. Restaurant, grocery and a few other business nearby. Close to the highway. Plenty of parking. Quiet.

Do Not Stay Here - Bed Bugs, Poor Management, and No Accountability…read moreI stayed at the Baymont Inn in Harlan, Iowa, on Saturday, July 19, 2025, and it was one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had. On Sunday morning, I was informed by other guests that the hotel had a bed bug issue--something that was never disclosed to me when I checked in. My sister's boyfriend even spoke with the front desk and that person said, yea we get them from time to time and we just spray for them - GROSS Once I found out, I immediately packed up and checked out. The front desk clerk refunded me for Sunday night and allowed early check-out, but I was still charged for Saturday night--even though I would have never stayed had I known the hotel had a bed bug situation. As a result, I had to take urgent and expensive steps to prevent contamination of my home: I washed and heat-treated all my clothes, blankets, pillows, and bags at a commercial laundromat. I also had to take additional precautions to protect my home and car. This was stressful, time-consuming, and costly--all because the hotel failed to be transparent. When I called to speak with the General Manager, I was shocked by how I was treated. She denied there were bed bugs, got defensive when I mentioned other small black bugs I saw crawling on the wall in my room, and then accused me of lying. She told me I was "making things up" because I hadn't mentioned the black bugs earlier. She dismissed my valid concern that the situation had caused me significant stress, saying that I "chose" to spend the money on precautions and that it was not her problem. When I asked why there were large drying or industrial machines set up in the downstairs hallway, she said it wasn't a flood issue--it was foundation issues on that side of the building. And when I asked about getting the room inspected, she told me, "If you want, you can report me to the state and they'll come inspect it." Her tone made it seem like she wasn't concerned at all--perhaps because this is a very small town and she likely knows who those inspectors are. That's just my assumption, but the dismissiveness was loud and clear. The front desk staff, while polite, looked visibly uncomfortable and avoided eye contact the entire time I was gathering my things--as if they knew something and didn't want to get involved. My brother and sister were also staying at the hotel, and they are just as disgusted by the situation. None of us should've been put in this position--and the manager's refusal to take any responsibility is appalling. Avoid this hotel at all costs. Baymont and Wyndham should be ashamed to have this property under their name.

This is Now Called the Cyclone Lodge. It is newly owned and Managed. Newly Renovated too. This place is much nicer than more expensive chain Motels. Totally New clean rooms. The Owners definately did a complete renovation of everything. This place is Decent. Flat Screen TV very good Channel Line up and with New Amana Room Heaters. Refrigerators and microwaves. It's American Owned and Managed which is a big plus. The Manager here Stephanie is totally awesome and very good people. My opinion of this place is Very Good. I urge all Travelers coming into the town of Harlan Iowa to definately stop in and stay at the New Cyclone Lodge. It's right next to the Hyvee Super Market. So this needs to be known that this is basically a completely renovated Motel and is very nice and clean and convenient. Make this Your stop when traveling US 59 going through Harlan Iowa. Hope to see much more good reviews on this site regarding this Motel/Lodge. Thumbs up to the Cyclone Lodge in Harlan Iowa.!!!

This stay was 4 years ago but deserves to be shared. Fortunately my friends and are I more of the…read more"laugh at the situation" kind of people. Our visit started off with a smokey lobby, a "sausage w/ legs" dog greeting us at door, a TV that was blaring STATIC (the cable's out was later explained to us - never did say why tv was still on??), and a gentleman employee more interested in talking on the phone than actually checking us in (didn't even know about free breakfast until next day as we were leaving). All of this should have been a clue but nope it get's even "better" - Progess into a warm smelly hallway to our room #105 (make sure you don't get this room). Open the door and BAM it's literally a frickin sauna in there - probably 110 degrees - no joke. OK OK need to turn on a/c - no biggie - walk over to turn on a/c and notice there is a de-humidifier running (it's water collector overflowing) and the carpet is soaking wet. We assume it's from the machine so I empty the collection bucket and proceed to turn on a/c. The room at this point smells a bit like rotting mice and mold - but based on reception in office we decide this is probably the best it gets so no complaints here. We're in Harlan for a b-day party that's probably going to close the bar down so we're hoping we'll just pass out and not notice the odor or flooded carpet! Get back to room at 3am and it's much cooler in there but the carpet by the a/c literally has water standing on it (apparently that's what the dehumidifier was for??) - the a/c must be leaking into room - explaining the mold on walls and freaky smell. But as previously stated we get undressed, tried to watch TV (cable was still out) and passed out. Now the one plus is that the beds were VERY clean and the mattresses were super comfortable! The next day we get up and get ready to leave that's when we noticed that when you flushed the toilet the pipes in the walls would SCREAM at you - no joke here either - it was loud enough to be disturbing yet super funny @ this point. All in all it was definitely a great place to make memories at and one we'll laugh about for years - but without enough adult beverages to pass out in I wouldn't recommend it under ANY circumstances!

They helped me find several fun things to do in Red Oak and the cities surrounding it. I definitely loved their helpfulness. Lobby/entrance: The lobby is a decent size lobby with plenty of places to sit at. I always love when a hotel has a porta cochère and this hotel has one! Breakfast area: So a continental breakfast is included with your stay. It's a very minimal breakfast. If it doesn't fill you up you can go to the restaurant they have on site or to the McDonald's right down the street. Rooms: The rooms are very large and spacious for a standard type room! I really enjoyed the extra space. Parking: It's free and they have a very large parking lot! Downfalls: 1. There was never anyone standing at the front desk. Whenever I needed someone I had to push a doorbell to get someone to come out from the back. I felt like I was disturbing them whenever I pushed that button. 2. Yes the rooms were huge but the bathrooms were very small. If I had a bathroom that was 1 foot bigger then it would be perfect. 3. Booking this hotel can only be done by calling. Yes I understand this is a small town and not a lot of tourist come to red oak. However it would have been nice if you allowed online bookings on either your website or through Expedia. When I was looking for a hotel to stay at your hotel didn't immediately pop up. I booked your hotel after I talked to my friends and we all agreed to stay there. Overall it's a good hotel and if I'm in red oak I will stay here again.
