The way they worked with us, communicated so well and remained focused on providing an excellent end product, in our case two coats of solid stain on Alaskan Cedar. Ok.....we have finished this project-and it was HUGE. (March-August non stop huge.) No change to the review left while in process-this outfit is just top of top. MAJOR shout out to Frank-the crew chief. I have never worked with such a super cool, uber competent, would die to please you, guy. Seriously! We just had our house painted and they did an excellent job! I've never seen any painters so precise and meticulous as they were. They scraped the entire house, sanded the entire house, caulked every window and power washed before they started painting. I say this because most painters are not that meticulous. Every single day they cleaned up everything. One day I looked into my side yard at clean up time and one of their painters was vacuuming paint dust off of some old bricks that were lying in the yard. The lead painter was very courteous and always told us ahead of time what they were going to do so we could prepare. I got six quotes and theirs was the most expensive but was much more comprehensive about what they said they were going to do. I am a perfectionist and when they did touch ups I found tiny little places hidden away that no one would ever see and they had no problem touching them up. All in all I would highly recommend these painters to anyone who wants an excellent job done! read more

Yikes!!! I thought I had a review out here for Cydney and her crew and I guess I forgot to post back in 2010. We choose Cydney after accepting bids from other painters for our house in Rockridge. Cydney bid on painting the exterior of our home AND included a color consultant with her bid. Her bid still was the best of all we obtained. She and her crew were very conscious of our neighbors, especially with the removal, scrapping, etc. of old paint from our home. Cydney was meticulous in ensuring our neighbors were not disturbed by the process. While we did 'breech' the change of seasons with the cold and light rains starting to set in, Cydney and her crew were able to complete the job well before the heavy rains. We are always astonished at the number of folks that slowly walk by or stop and look at the paint job done by Cydney and her crew. They are always quite complimentary and of course we let them know who did the work. I would not hesitate to recommend or use Cydney again on our house or any other property. Just had Cydney and her crew paint the outside of our house. I had bought a house that had been subject to a quick flip and the paint job had failed after less than a year-- a horrible stucco on wood situation. Cydney came in with a great bid and was a pleasure to work with--from colors to checking in once if not twice a day to monitor progress. Steven her right hand and Francisco the lead on the paint crew were always on time, hardworking and helpful. They cleaned up every day. Cydney Ortzow painting just finished painting the entire exterior of our Temescal area Craftsman home, and we are pleased to say that their service and the quality of their work were absolutely top-notch in every way. Our job was not a simple one -- it is 2+ floors with a high roof, on a hill, so it required scaffolding. And there was lots of prep work to be done -- we hadn't had the exterior painted in too long, so there was lots of scraping and sanding for their crew to do. They found various pieces of damaged wood hiding under the previous paint, and worked with us while we had dry rot repaired. And they kept the job moving ahead on schedule despite these wrinkles that arose. Stephen kept us super well informed throughout the job. The painting was done in October-November amidst a series of early rains, and they were adept at navigating the storms and only applying paint when the surfaces were dry. And the crew was impressively hard-working, pleasant, and trustworthy. We were happy to have them around. Most important, the overall results exceeded our expectations. We think the house looks great, not just in general appearance but in the house seeming so much better sealed up and protected than it was before. And did we mention that their price was comparable to others', for clearly superior work? Overall, our experience with Cydney Ortzow was as good as it gets. Cydney Ortozow Painting just painted the exterior of our condominium complex. She and her crew were fantastic -- they did great work and were very professional. Our homeowners' association did not have enough funds in reserve to do such a big project and, thus, we were each chipping in money over and above our monthly fee. In short, price was *very* important to us, as was quality of the work (we were doing the job less for aesthetics and more to protect our homes from the upcoming rainy season). We did a lot of research and got bids from seven other painters, including larger companies and smaller ones. Cydney's price was incredibly reasonable, made all the more so by the positive feedback we received from her references and the great work we saw by doing "drive bys" of other jobs she's completed. Beyond offering a very fair price, Cydney and her employees are courteous, professional, and perhaps most important: they do good work. In a sense, once the deal is made, the painters have a financial incentive to rush through a job (especially since our job was interrupted by a few rainy days); they get paid the same no matter how long it takes them. But that's now how Cydney operates: the painters took their time, making sure everything was just right. I'll also say that our condos presented no easy task, with four different two-story townhouses and all kinds of "nooks and crannies." I have finally found a painting company that is professional about everything. Thank goodness; I've had some doozies before. First I had her paint the trim on my house, and I've had her do several other inside painting jobs since then. Every time she has been wonderful at advising me on colors, and she knows the types of paints to use for things like metal, concrete, vinyl, etc. Her guys are always -- yes, always! -- on time, they work hard, and they clean up afterward. I called up Cydney to help me repair the interior paint on my 100+-yr old windows after I had some work done on them that tore up the paint terribly. I had gotten an atrocious bid from my previous painter, who I guess didn't really want the painstaking job, so he made a ridiculous bid, I think to avoid taking it. I'd heard good things about Cydney. She was prompt and reassuring. She quickly assessed the job and gave me a quote that was 1/3 of this previous quote. I appreciated her knowledge and willingness to get the job done in a not-too-distant timeframe, so I gave her that job, knowing that I had other projects she could do if this one worked out. It did work out, and she ended up painting my porch and staining my new front door. Whenever small touchups were needed, she and her crew addressed them immediately. They gave me advice as I navigated what kinds of varnishes and sealers would work best on the door. When the door threshold needed to be re-painted, after getting scraped by the door before it fully dried, they did so quickly, without complaint. I would (and will) hire them again. I recently hired Cydney to paint my property. From the start, I was very impressed with the way her workers were very careful to not get debris and paint drops on the premises. It was a beautiful paint job, but after it was done I noticed that the body color was a little off from the original. Since the manufacturer of the original paint went out of business, the paint had to be color matched and it was a little off. Fortunately, I had had a quart made for touch up and it was a good match to the original. I bought the paint and Cydney agreed to paint another coat and now it looks just like the original! After looking at one job she said she did not have time to look at the other projects, so she had her assistant look at job # 2, but he didnt' have time to look at the last project. she never sent out any estimates and would not return my phone calls about why she was not interested. Cydney, with her assistant Stephen and her fabulous crew led by Francisco, just completed painting the interior and exterior of our home. We appreciated Cydney and her teams flexibility and assistance with color choice. We had the painting done in stages to accommodate our living through it. We have an old house with many eccentricities and Francisco was excellent at developing solutions to tricky paint scenarios including painting around the vines that we wanted to keep growing up the house. Cydney Ortzow Painting did a beautiful job painting the exterior of a duplex in Berkeley that I own. The prep job was thorough and the sanders that were used were connected to vacuums, which minimized the mess. My tenants were impressed by the professional, respectful crew. Details are important to me and the lines are so crisp on the paint job that I am very impressed with the skill of the painters. Despite the care used, the flagstones had some paint spots on them, but once this was pointed out, the spots were removed at an impressive speed by the crew. I have had nightmare experiences with painting contractors in the past, including a painting crew who left a door unlocked, which lead to an attempted burglary. On another occasion, a painting contractor made decisions for me without consulting me, changing the paint color and sheen, supposedly to save me money. I was so relieved to find that Cydney's company treats their clients with respect. What a refreshing experience!!! Corners were not cut . . .the quality of the job is so great that I will probably not have to hire a painter for quite some time, but when I eventually do, I plan to call Cydney Ortzow again. read more

If you plan to occupy your house throughout a major remodel project -- for my wife and me, it was a complete kitchen remodel, taking four months -- then you'll probably want to have friendly and cheerful workers around. Cydney Ortzow can supply those. If your project will include painting an exterior wall, including windows and doors, then Cydney Ortzow can provide competent painters for that work. If your project will include painting interior walls, ceilings, or trim, then you should consider what you'll expect in the way of careful execution. Cydney Ortzow might not be your best choice if you tend to be very particular about details such as straight lines at junctures (for instance, wall-to-ceiling), clean edges around window glass, no paint on floors or cabinets or window/door hardware, and so forth. read more

Cydney & her crew just completed an interior paint job on 1911 craftsman house in Oakland for us. Their work was impeccable. Cydney was recommended to us by a friend, and we're grateful for that recommendation! First, the bid included an hour with a color consultant who was amazingly helpful. Second, they stuck to the schedule we asked for, and were there every day of the agreed-upon period--no flaking out or running off to other jobs. Third, their work was beautiful--they were incredibly precise, neat, thorough, and did not cut any corners. They prepped woodwork, repaired damaged walls, etc before starting to paint. The paint job itself is excellent (2 coats everywhere) and looks beautiful--even with lots of different colors and lots of trim to work around. Then, they even went back and touched up mistakes made by previous, messier painters (such as where the earlier colors had been slopped onto the trim or ceilings). Fourth, they took incredibly good care of our house while on-site. They papered all the floors, removed all the hardware and outlet covers, protected all the window coverings and appliances, etc etc. They kept the worksite spotless throughout, and left it completely clean afterwards. Cydney's is not the cheapest painting business out there, but she did her best to keep the costs within our budget, and was always willing to make changes as we added and subtracted pieces form our original plans. Most importantly, she and her crew were worth every penny of their very reasonable cost--not just for quality but also for peace of mind--and we are happy we hired them.
