We recently hired Green Plum Design (Ros Wyatt and Hector Huerta) to repaint our older stucco house. Ros helped us find the right colors, and even met with the owner of a house whose color scheme we liked. She gave us valuable ideas, including a simple but effective way to refurbish our front railings. Hector's crew did a fantastic job. They're professional and efficient, and clearly have been doing this for a long time.They prepped our house thoroughly -- repaired cracks and scrapped off a lot of peeling paint, then power-washed and primed. We had just installed new windows, and the crew was careful to protect them. Our surrounding plants benefited from their care as well. We had second thoughts about our color choice after the primer went on (it was close to our color but not an exact match which apparently is typical for tinted primer). Ros and Hector helped us understand the variations we were seeing and the way colors change in different lights. After some hand-wringing, we stayed with our original choice, and we were so glad we did! We've gotten many compliments. Green Plum is a wonderful outfit. We highly recommend Ros and her amazing crew from GreenPlum. While the wait to get our exterior house painted was long due to wildfire smoke delays, the pandemic, and her busy schedule, it was worth it. She kept in touch, coordinated scaffolding, recommended an excellent carpenter to take care of the wood rot we knew was an issue, and gave excellent advice on paint color. We are incredibly pleased and our 75 year old house looks like new. Ros does one house at a time so her crew are a well oiled machine. I take reviews seriously because reviews are people's livelihoods. First, yes we are in process of a kitchen remodel. Green plum painted both inside and outside ~18months ago. Our plan was to simply repaint over Green plum's paint job to match the new kitchen (no big deal) We were never quite satisfied with the paint job, but we just dealt with it. Here is a list of complaints that finally had me write this review. 1. We had to move up the paint job because of an opening in Green Plum's schedule. Not that big of a deal. 2. Green Plum (GP) wanted us to choose a color without us even seeing it on the house. Only after I requested samples put on, did they apply test colors on the outside. 3. After outside pressure washing the GP crew left standing water in the kitchen, which resulted in some loose tiles. Our kitchen is old, but we really didn't want loose tiles. Bigger deal. (See picture) 4. GP turned on the fireplace and house heater I assume to help dry the new paint? This resulted in our bench laminate to come off. (See comped us for this, just a little irritating) 5. Stains left on our kitchen counter top (maybe from washing the walls?) See picture, kinda hard to see though. 6. GP had to come out a few times to fix peeling paint on the doors and door frame. Maybe because of the wrong primer on the previous glossy paint or not washed? 7. Back to the kitchen remodel. A few spots of paint had peeled off prior to the remodel , but it wasn't worth calling GP. When we started removing the cabinets, large pieces of paint peeled off. GP's paint wasn't sticking to all of the walls. Some walls were worse than others, if this is truly because of the remodel, all of the paint in the kitchen should be peeling not just two walls and the ceiling. I could use blue painters tape and peel off pieces of paint (see picture), this was happening in the center of the walls, away from the old cabinets. GP says all of the peeling is due to the remodel, which I highly doubt. If you decide to go with GP. 1. Don't get rushed. 2. Get the warranty in writing (GP told me 5-7yrs talking face to face) 3. After the job is completed, go around the house with blue painters tape and test it out. Don't end up like us. The good thing is our contractor is having an easy time taking off all the paint (because it isn't sticking), it just delays our project and adds unnecessary costs to us. I probably wouldn't have written this if GP just owned up to it and said the walls were probably not washed properly and/or the primer wasn't correct and offered to help prep the walls for my contractor. Although I liked the colors I had chosen for each separate room in our house, they each seemed very distinct and individual and the colors didn't flow together in any cohesive way. We hired Green Plum design to design a new palette that would give each room a little bit of an identity, but work together pleasantly as a whole. I was thrilled with the colors that Ros chose. She listened carefully, thought about the problem and presented us with a palette that works beautifully in our home. While she was thinking about it she sent a few emails a long the lines of "what do you think about this?" and "imagine this for your bedroom." I felt that the resulting color scheme was gently and patiently guided by her, but truly came from our family's wants and needs. Highly recommended! read more

They painted the entire interior of our large "craftsman" house, which needed massive prep work including crack repair, trim repair, caulking, masking, taping, priming, etc. Ros and her crew spared no attention to detail. We are extremely pleased with the work done by the contractor, Ros Wyatt, and her excellent painting crew. We have an older bungalow home in Berkeley which had not been painted for many years. We didn't feel confident in choosing a color scheme and had a hard time projecting what the house would look like based on the very small paint chips and overwhelming number of potential colors. With Ros' guidance, expertise and patience, we landed on colors that are attractive, reflect our personalities and fit well with the style of our house and the neighboring house colors. The prep by the painting crew was notably thorough and immaculate. Many of our neighbors commented on the high level of attention given to the extended prep stage. From start to finish, Green Plum did an excellent job in painting the exterior of our house. Ros, the owner, supervised the job and was very attentive. She and her foreman met with us twice before the job started to go over details. Ros also went over color choices twice and was very perceptive about what would look good with the home's architectural style and the garden design. When it came time to execute the work, the crew showed meticulous attention to detail - making small repairs as needed and carefully painting the trim. They worked around extensive edible landscaping and a PV system on the roof without causing any paint chips in the garden, overspray, or damage. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Ros and the gorgeous color she brought to our house. We are first time home owners and bought, as most people do these days it seems, a very white house. White is great but because of the layout of our house made it feel a bit sterile. The floor plan is open with some built-ins but with everything white it felt blank and un-cozy. When Ros came over to help us, she listened carefully to what we were thinking, asked a lot of questions, and took a bunch of photos. We had some definite ideas but were also open to ideas. The cool thing about Ros is that she has vision but not A vision. She has an incredible sense of color and space and used it to bring our own ideas into beautiful balance. I completely second the other reviewers comments about her process, how she helps you to find what you are looking for--even sometimes when you didn't know what you were looking for!! Even though we changed our minds several times in between, the colors she suggested from our very first description were what we ultimately went with--and we could not be happier. The color in each room of the open area punctuates the transition from room to room without making any room feel completely cut off, resulting in coziness and openness together. She was patient and attentive to our needs, really listening to the ideas and concerns we might've had and guiding us to a fantastic conclusion. Due to an upcoming move we had a restricted time frame for getting the exterior of our house painted and Ros went out of her way to accommodate this need. I highly recommend working with Ros Wyatt. She is the only painter with whom I have spoken who genuinely cares about preventing lead exposure. Numerous other painters and contractors have expressed irritation with/disdain for the required lead safety practices even though I have literally been holding my infant while speaking with them. She was professional, knowledgeable, reliable, available and has a great crew of painters. Their daily clean-up was incredible and when they were completely finished, they even washed the windows! In addition to being a lovely person, Roz has a background in color consulting which was invaluable in helping me arrive at a color scheme. I was so happy with the exterior work that I had them also paint a couple of interior rooms and they also were able to repair a damaged stucco retaining wall and paint that as well.
