I had a gift certificate for my recent birthday and signed up for a massage and facial. The massage part with Joy was great and I would absolutely get another massage with her. The low star rating is for the facial with Shahla that I received. I signed up for an acne facial since I'm one of those unfortunate people with adult acne. Beyond the initial questions of how to describe my skin and confirmation that acne is a problem, there was zero communication until "Thank You" at the end. There were minimal extractions and when I got home I saw that my face was still covered in acne that wasn't extracted. To top it off, despite saying I had dry skin, minimal post-facial moisturizer was used and I had an uncomfortable walk home with over dryed out skin from the treatment. Very disappointing since I rarely have the opportunity to get facials and was really looking forward to starting off Fall with improved skin. read more

I'm a college student and new to Burlington, and I was a little worried that I wouldn't find a good place to get my eyebrows and lips waxed. I booked a time here and came five minutes early. It wasn't busy, and we started right away. Amber was nice, polite, and friendly, and made the process of waxing easy and efficient. I asked her to keep my eyebrows natural, and she did it exactly the way I wanted. She also did a nice job on my lip. The rose quartz massage DOES NOT USE rose quartz. They place one on your chest at the end, but use regular hot stones for the rest. The hot stones are nice, but if you are looking for the energetic benefits of rose quartz this is not your place. read more

I've had two bad experiences here getting my eyebrows waxed (despite the fact they are more expensive than other salons/spas in the area). The first time my wax was OK but I also had requested my eyebrows be lightened. Despite reassurances from the girl they would be lighter after the processing, I ended up with eyebrows so dark that all my friends noticed and told me I should get them redone-- it was embarrassing with my blonde hair. The second time I walked out with significantly thinner eyebrows than I wanted. The cleanup afterwards was also lacking- I had oil running down one side of my face with wax left on the other (as well as stuck in my hair). The atmosphere is not that great either- the walls must be super thin since I could hear girls in the hall gossiping. I have since moved from the area but wouldn't go back if I was still in Burlington. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! Let me first start off by stating that I NEVER write reviews and I am not one to complain. However, I recently moved here from California and frequently got Brazilians at European Wax Center. They were amazing! Very quick and painless. I was extremely disappointed to discover that there was not one located in Burlington. I am always skeptical of new places and do extensive research to find the right place. After countless hours of research I decided that Cynthea's sounded like it would be a good choice for me. Boy was I wrong. I have never received a worse wax. The woman didn't have a clue what she was doing! She waxed over the same place at least 3 times and we all know that that is a huge no no. After going over the same spot multiple times, I finally told her to just do one big strip to get rid of the rest of the hair and the hair that didn't come out just to pluck because I couldn't take it anymore! I had never been in so much pain! I left in tears and with a hack job of a wax! It was a scaring experience and I definitely won't return to Cynthea's. The only positive about this horrific experience was that the woman at the front desk, who I believe was the manager, was very sympathetic and concerned. She told me that I was free to leave without paying which was the right and kind thing to do. read more

I would have written a great review because the lady was very fast with my Brazilian and of course I appreciated that. But two days later, I could not be more disappointed. She did not tweeze or get out any ingrown hairs and it is already starting to show! I did not pay $60 for that! The hairs that she did not tweeze will be ready to wax in probably a week or so, so I will either have to tweeze them myself, or have to deal with them being there for another FOUR weeks. I don't know if it is this spa, or the particular woman that I saw, but I am definitely not satisfied with them. I am already looking for a new place to go. In 2010 while prepping for my wedding I decided to have Cynthea's Spa (Allison) do my makeup. Being that I was getting married nearby in Burlington Allison came to my hotel and took GREAT care of me. The trial run prior to the big day was fabulous. She really listened to my needs and the basic feel of our wedding. I love looking back at those photos! After my wedding my normal hair stylist (who'd been doing my waxing) moved out of the salon she was in and I didn't know where else to go for a good Brazilian. I tried out Cynthea's and was NOT disappointed! Just the sanitation end of things alone is a breath of fresh air - no "double dipping" in the wax pot. I stick with one person now (Kayla) and she has been AMAZING for me. My eyebrows look great and the whole experience is quick and relatively painless! Is it more expensive then some other salons? Yes. Worth it? Hell YES! Amber is a GREAT deep tissue massage therapist as well. Always leaving relaxed and pampered. Please note: the spa is UPSTAIRS and is small. Staffed well but sometimes you will have to wait a moment to speak with someone. After all, a small local business cannot have everyone at every spot all the time. I had been to Cynthea's once before and had a pretty good facial. I went back recently to have a facial and get my eyebrows and lip waxed. I know, it can be delicate doing this, but it has always turned out fine for me. Facial was great, like the last one. But the wax is an absolute nightmare. She slopped the wax onto skin that did not have any hair on it and then stripped off bare skin along with the hairy skin. For the price of that waxing, it should be expertly done! Sure, I got a facial beforehand which added to my skins sensitivity, but if you get any facial waxing here please be sure to have them take their time and be careful where they are putting the wax. Or you'll end up looking like a hot mess like me! read more

The spa is cute but when I walked into the waiting area, the top 40 radio station was playing which was not relaxing at all. Once in the massage it took a good ten minutes to adjust the head pillow so that my face didnt keep hitting the metal bar on the edge of the table. I was understanding while we tried to fix it three times. I would have thought the therapist would have added some time onto the end of the session to compensate for the inconvenience and discomfort but I looked at the clock and there was no extension at all. She hit my Achilles' tendon at least five times before I had to say that that is not comfortable and hurts! Not once during the session did she ask how the pressure was, the massage had a bit of a frantic feeling and it was difficult to relax. Some parts were good but my overall experience was mediocre at best. The receptionist was not very personable, kind of avoided eye contact. When I come into a spa I expect it to be welcoming and relaxing. Unfortunately it fell short. read more

I am so horrified by this place it makes me sick! I am from New York and was excited to get married in VT! I chose Cynthea's Spa because of it's semi decent reviews and it was one of the only spas available for my wedding date. I should have known Immediately that Cynthea was a crook when she said a minimum of three girls needed to have their makeup done before she even considered applying makeup on me (the bride!). When I agreed to this sham, I went for my consultation the week of my wedding. The amount of makeup she applied on my face was preposterous (even after I repeatedly asked her to make it look natural) and when I said there might be too much, she said it was what I wanted!!! The audacity of this woman was tremendous and my hairstylist was even appalled. A professional makeup artist would know how much makeup to apply for daylight and this lady had no clue. All she could talk about was her dreams of working fashion week and how she was an athlete. When I decided to cancel her services she forced me to pay for not only the makeup session but the TRAVEL FEE!!!! She did not move one inch from her salon and she made me pay for her travel to my house (which never happened!!) . I'm just disgusted by this woman and her sneaky way of business. She nearly ruined my wedding and I ended up having to do my own makeup (and I did a better job!!) . Please don't go to her if you are considering using her for your wedding, and her dreams of fashion week are over (my best friend runs the majority of scheduled fashion week shows including the Victoria secret show).
