She sent me to have three teeth removed. While I was waiting for those sites to heal I lost the tip of another. I went in to have the tip repaired and she also did purely cosmetic fillings on the outside surface with the warning it might not last. She was right. It didn't. I paid over $800 for a gloss that fell out after two weeks. It's been a year now and the tip repair has fallen out, too. I had a partial plate with six teeth built for almost $2K. I can't wear it. It gives me a speech impediment. She said, "Oh, just read the newpaper outloud." There is so much plastic I can't find my alveolar ridge to form an l, n, d, or t. There is even plastic on the back surface of the upper front teeth, that I can't form an Italian l either. I'm a voice professional and must be able to perform in Italian, French, and English as well as demonstrate to my students. The only positives about the office are the delightful woman in the front office and the very healthy croton that gets morning sunshine through the window. Avoid at all costs. I have spoken with others who unanimously share my opinions, but they don't seem to register reviews here.

The staff were genuine, attentive, and professional -- you can feel when a clinic truly values patients, and this one does. My first visit was excellent. The care team listened, took their time, and never made me feel rushed. The atmosphere was modern, clean, and relaxed. Staff encouraged and reinforced positive habits rather than shaming anyone for what they "should" be doing -- a huge difference compared to other places. The first set of x-rays was essentially free (saving me hundreds), which stunned me. Both the dentist and hygienist were thorough, careful, and patient. This is how dentistry should feel: professional, compassionate, and centered on care -- not billing. I highly recommend Gorges Dentistry to anyone in Ithaca looking for quality dental care.

I have an Excellus plan through the marketplace. They initially told me that I would receive a reimbursement check in 4-6 weeks... That time had passed so I called back and someone said they would get back to me later that day (no one ever did...). I waited another WEEK and had to call back again. When I spoke to a person this time they had trouble looking me up because the person initially taking down my information had it completely wrong... same birthday (month/day) but wrong year, same first name, but wrong last name, and the wrong street address (but the same street number...). Very odd and unprofessional - it seemed like they were trying to multitask or looking at information from two different sheets... It made enough sense to confirm it was me, but had SO MANY errors. Either way once that was resolved she said I would get a check for reimbursement withing a week. Another Week goes by and nothing so I call back AGAIN! And this time I find out that they cannot submit the claim because its through the state (I don't know how they missed that on my initial visit, but they did.) SO I had to call insurance and submit the claim on my own just to find out that Gorges dental was "out of network" - so now Im stuck paying "out of pocket". I WOULD AVOID THIS DENTIST AT ALL COST IF YOU HAVE INSURANCE THROUGH EXCELLUS, OR ANY PLAN THROUGH "THE STATE".

It doesn't even have that awful dentist office smell! I was pleased with the way Dr. Whipple explained my dental issues and what the appropriate treatment would be. Be aware that they don't perform root canals in office, but refer you to an endodontist, which can be good or bad. For me, it's inconvenient to have to go to another office (hence the four star rating), but there's certainly nothing wrong with having a specialist do the procedure. I plan to have my routine care at Seven Valley Dental from now on.

In particular, I was told that they accept all insurance there. Then after I get a bill for more than $400, and brought to their attention that my insurance would not cover that, I was told first that they don't accept any insurance, and secondly that I was wrong because no one there would have told me that to begin with! The tried to explain to me how it was all my fault that I had misheard what I was originally told. I was also told that I would receive a follow-up call from the office manager to discuss further, but I have heard nothing after multiple calls to their office. Talk about bait and switch. Swindlers. Take your business elsewhere. There's something rotten below that enamel.

The care they provide is genuine, and they will do whatever they can to make you comfortable. I've even been offered a blanket and a foot massage! Unfortunately, with Integrative Oral Health, you have to apply through Medicare to recoup the money you pay for the visit. Unfortunately, Excelles won't reimburse the full amount. The dentist's receptionist will apply for the reimbursement on your behalf. We also apply ourselves because the forms didn't get through the system a few times. I have tried the other dentists listed by Excelles, and I was NOT happy with their service. One tried to pull out my bridge and said I needed a deep cleaning, which wasn't true. The other dentist called me the day before my appointment (that took months to get) and cancelled on me, saying the hygienist wouldn't be in that day!!! I was not very happy! I felt like I was on an assembly line with these dentists. I would definitely recommend Integrative Oral Health because they don't jerk you around, but treat you with respect.

Called up Dr. Zax's office and the appointment making process was pleasant and quick. That's where the positivity of this review ends. I also want to preface this review with the fact that I am NOT one of those people who is terrified of the dentist. I have never been afraid of any doctor. I spent nearly three hours at their office from start to finish. For a CLEANING! A Cleaning! Waited in the waiting room for a half an hour. Sat in the torture chair for an hour and a half. Waited another half an hour for the doctor to review the Grim Reaper's work. Waited ten minutes for doctor to get off of her cell phone. Listened to the doctor try to convince me for another ten minutes that I "might" have a cavity (I am 42 years old and have never had a cavity) and that I will need to come back and get it "fixed" for a few more hundred dollars. The rooms were freezing. Maybe they need to be, I don't know. The dental assistant proceeded to tell me everything that my previous dentist had done wrong in the last twenty years. Picked at my teeth with her mouth-hatchet for far longer than I've ever had anyone do in the past. My entire mouth was sore for two days (again, a first) and I had a headache for 24 hours after that appointment. The receptionist is very cheery. So thanks for that. Good music in the office too. Yeah, that's all I got.

However, when a service/business really goes above and beyond to make my experience positive, I believe it is very important to have a credit where it is due End rant. I have been to Dentists that would make Hannibal Lecter look like Daniel Tiger (I'm a dad... that's the only comparison I could think of right now ) and, thankfully, they're getting easier to identify; no eye contact, little to no communication, asking what type of insurance we have before any attempt at a polite greeting, suggesting a ridiculous amount of dental work followed by zero explanation of WHY, without first, asking about the initial reason you are there, and lastly, racing from room to room at a speed that seems cartoonish in order to get through their 50-75 patients a day as the only dentist in house...etc etc. same old GD racket. WITH ALL OF THAT SAID, the young Dr. Singh at Wilson dental in Dryden NY, immediately put me at ease by showing none of these behaviors. In fact, he did the complete opposite of all of them. I felt seen and heard. I wasn't just another Medicaid ID #. It was such a relief and I couldn't have been more grateful. Lastly, while the young Dr Singh was treating me like a human being, the woman at the front desk along with the hygienist in the room with me, helped tremendously by keeping an eye on my daughters in the waiting room and really went out of their way to make sure that they were comfortable while waiting for me. I cannot say enough good things about the positive and consistent experiences I continue to have at this dentist. I'm hoping that the staff will eventually read this and know how incredibly grateful I am after years of seeing the worst dentists possible.
