We decided to refinance our home to make some improvements and clear out some high-interest debt. We assumed (erroneously) that our credit union, which had held the current mortgage for 15 years plus our bank accounts and car notes, and a flawless history of payments with them, would have no trouble refinancing us, even though we are now self-employed, and making 3x what we made when they initially approved us. ***WRONG!!!*** After literally MONTHS of asking for documents, changing rates, long delays waiting for info from underwriting, and unanswered questions, we finally abandoned them in search of unconventional financing routes. We looked specifically for brokers in the area who specialize in self-employed people, and found a few. Some seemed a bit "green," some sounded less than friendly or just weren't interested in a smaller refi. But Tatiana with the Tuttle Group was super friendly when she reached out, and helped us arrange a video consultation with Andy Tuttle, the wizard of the Tuttle Group. During the 30 minutes that Andy spoke with us, it was like a crash course in financial planning. Everything he said made so much sense, and we learned more about mortgage refinancing than MONTHS of online research and questions we had asked to our credit union. Andy was up-front and told us that our best option might, indeed, be to go with the offer our credit union had finally extended, and that he might not be able to beat it. Still, he took the time to explain how refinancing in this "terrible Fed-rate" era could be financially advantageous to us, and told us to check once more with our credit union to see their final terms and if they were still locked in. I was astounded that he would take that kind of time to talk to a customer he likely wouldn't get any money from. We decided to proceed with the Tuttle Group, even if they couldn't offer us a better rate, simply because it was a PLEASURE dealing with them, they treated us like family, and everything Andy said made such good sense. Throughout the 2-ish weeks that ensued, their awesome mortgage gal Annie checked in with us regularly to make sure all our questions were answered. They seemingly required FAR less documentation than anyone else. But their stated tactic was to present a perfect, iron-clad package to underwriting up-front, so that there would be an instant approval and there wouldn't be a need for further questions or documentation. (Imagine that???) In what seemed like the blink of an eye, we were approved and ushered through closing. We simply could not be more impressed with the Tuttle Group. We've helped numerous friends and family through the mortgage process, and it's always like being put through a medieval torture device. This is the first time getting approved and closing was a PLEASURE. We NEVER had to contact them for questions, because they were always checking in to make sure all ours were answered. They were super friendly, familiar, informal-yet-professional, and we always felt like they had our backs and had everything under control. We actually looked forward to their calls and emails...imagine that??? Even though were were looking for a silly, small refinance and shouldn't have been worth their time, we felt like we had called up a dear family member who gave us the "hook up" our situation clearly didn't warrant. When Costco changed from accepting AMEX to Visa or Mastercard, I decided to make the change to a…read moreBank of America credit card. It was marketed as a travel card that waived foreign transaction fees. It seemed like it would be of great use domestically as well as on international trips. Prior to the pandemic, I was able to come to this branch office to exchange cash for foreign currency, even though I didn't have a savings or checking account. I was still considered a customer here because of my BofA travel credit card. Sadly, post pandemic, this financial service center is no longer offering this service of foreign currency exchange even though their website and the BofA app both say the service is provided for credit card customers. I spoke with tellers and a bank manager at the location about this. I showed them the app. I showed them info on the website. The bank manager elevated the case to his manager and gave me the case number. I waited several days for an update, but heard nothing, so I called the local number on the business card. No answer, so I stopped by the bank to get an update. The bank manager was not in. Another employee confirmed that the "case" is just to get the language REMOVED from the website that says credit card customers can be assisted with foreign currency exchanges too. Not really the customer service that I was hoping for. On another note, I was robbed in Paris. All of my credit cards and cash were stolen on my day of arrival. I was on the train from the airport to my AirBnB when a large man literally threw himself on top of me. While I was pushing him off of me, he unzipped my purse and stole my change wallet with everything. Thankfully I still had my phone and noticed prior to getting off the train what had happened. I informed the train staff when I arrived at my station, but they simply gave me the address of the nearest police station. As soon as I got checked into my room, I started calling all of my credit cards to report them stolen. Charges were thankfully removed from all, but the BofA card was the hardest to deal with. I requested a replacement be mailed to me in Paris, but they said it would take at least 2 weeks, so it would not be available until I returned to the US. Thankfully AMEX was able to process and overnight me a new card within 24 hours to a address in Paris. My nephew, who lived in Paris at the time, loaned me some cash. I will forever be a fan of AMEX for saving me in that trip. BofA is okay, but they don't offer the customer service that one can find with other banks. After this upcoming trip, I will most likely get rid of this account because it has not served my needs.
