My first visit, I walked out of there with a wine glass etched with the streets of downtown Carmel, and a pair of wooden dangly earrings made by someone who lives in Carmel. I seriously could have bought so many more things but I gave myself a budget. But I was eyeing a map of Carmel that would have looked great on my wall. In the store, you'll find lots of Carmel-related clothing to show off your school spirit, including Carmel school sweatshirts and Greyhound gear, scarves and beanies in school colors, and more. There are also sweaters and running gear promoting the Monon Trail! You'll also find jewelry, mugs and travel coffee cups, pillows, bumper stickers, and even tins of mints and treats emblazoned with Carmel insignia. And because Carmel is the roundabout capital of the nation, there are roundabout-related things like roundabout playing cards, roundabout posters, roundabout postcards, etc. The people who work here are very friendly, and I also found out that they are volunteers! The North Michigan Road store gave way to Nora and eventually this location on Mass Avenue along with Bloomington, IN and Columbus, OH. Certain things haven't changed - Global Gifts is still mission minded and kind and devoted to creating sustainable economic opportunities and safe/equitable working conditions for artisans and farmers from over 40 countries. They have a website where you can actually shop by country, including a current special upgrade to Priority Mail until December 16th. They have a delightful rewards club. They definitely do not spam, though you will get periodic e-mails about specials and updates regarding the current respons to the health pandemic. All products, 100%, are fair trade verified and ethically made. They offer free standard shipping on orders over $60. This location has a definite Mass Avenue feeling. It's worth noting that while all the Global Gifts locations are related, they're not always the same. The Mass Avenue location is a little more narrow, consistent with Mass Avenue stores, though they do a nice job of keeping things accessible. The front door is level to the ground and easy to access. If you need help due to mobility - trust me, these folks will help. It's worth noting that Global Gifts is a non-profit organization - 501c3. An awful lot of the folks you see in the stores are actually volunteers and many of them have been volunteering for years. Global Gifts follows a JEDI Committee Charter - "Global Gifts is committed to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in principle and in action, in the way we operate our business and the way we further our mission and vision in line with the principles of Fair Trade." As I recall, they started life out of a Mennonite Church and I believe many of those involved continue to be associated, though it is actually it's own organization/business I believe. What can you find here? Clothing items, chocolate, coffee, tea, home decor, wall decor, jewelry, books, some music, and a whole lot more. I honestly can't imagine going through my holiday season without visiting Global Gifts. The original manager back in the day, Julie, was a compassionate supporter of some of my own early outreach events including early Tenderness Tour events. The staff was very friendly when i cam into the store and talked to me about what i wanted. They did kind of leave me to fill out the engraving form by myself and didn't explain to me the fonts and what they look like on different surfaces but i managed. While waiting to checkout i decided to buy a new flask and have it engraved as well. I can see spending a little time walking through there one could easily spend a lot of money buying nick nacks and what nots and having them engraved for gifts. Not all the items in there were quality made and I'm sure none made in the USA (but what is anymore). I think that was my only downer was the quality of the items. But not everyone is buying the items and may just be getting something engraved. The engraving is done digitally and you are warned about the possible damage of your item. (this is done because the machine could malfunction and damage your item...if you don't want to take the chance i would recommend having someone do it by hand, which is also much more expensive) They can do them in a 24 hour turn around but i chose to wait until after the weekend rush to get up to Castelton. My items were done just the way i asked with no damage and were ready when i came to get them. I would definitely come back here for any future engravings.

Staff are typically friendly here and always offer to help and point out sales. I do like that they will leave customers alone though if you say you don't need help. I loved that I could see their beautiful holiday bouquets, gifts and decor on their website before ordering. I was able to order everything online and it was super easy and quick. The owner called me the next day with drop-off info and she was so sweet and friendly on the phone. The flowers were delivered on time and my grandma said that they smelled amazing.
