The rest area had the usual pavilions and a couple of picnic tables. They had a small walking path that was roughly 2/10 of a mile. They also had the usual and expected vending machines. This is definitely a cool rest area, even simply for the Blue Angels fighter jet. If you are heading to Pensacola or even any further west on Interstate 10 and you get to mile marker 30, stop in and check this rest area out.

Some basic pilot info: Peter Prince Field is a public General Aviation (GA) airport owned and operated by Santa Rosa County. The airport identifier for Peter Prince is 2R4. The Airport is located approximately 3 miles east of the City of Milton, along Highway 90 (SR 10). The Airport has one asphalt runway, Runway 18-36, which is 3,701 feet long and 75 feet wide. The runway is equipped with medium intensity runway lights and a precision approach path indicator and is served by two full-length parallel taxiways (A&B).  The Airport serves the general aviation (GA) community, including business flyers, with two Fixed Based Operators (FBO); Aircraft Management Services (AMS) and Peter Prince Aviation Center. The airfield also has 23 aircraft hangar buildings, which serve approximately 139 general aviation aircraft. Peter Prince is a small unique airport that is close to beaches in the area. A round trip from Milton, circling around Pensacola and flying directly above Pensacola beaches to Navarre beach and back to Milton takes about 1 hour from take off to landing.

This is the Okaloosa County Rest Area for travelers heading east along Interstate 10. It is…read morelocated near mile marker 58 (though the center itself notes it as mile marker 60). When entering, cars will go to the left while trucks go to the right. Florida rest areas are open 24 hours a day. My visit to this rest area was on August 26, 2022. After traveling for a little while, it was time to take a break from driving and being on the road. This is the rest area we stopped at in Okaloosa County. The first stop at this rest area was to use the restroom. The restrooms were nice. They were pretty big for a rest area. They were also clean and well maintained too. Using the restroom isn't the only reason to stop at a rest area. I also took advantage of moving around and getting my body moving so that my legs don't cramp up while driving. They have a leg stretching trail, which is a little over a quarter mile in distance. There are spots here where you can take your pets to relieve themselves too, but pets are not allowed in the building (service animals only). There are several picnic tables, with some of them covered, as well as tree cover in the area too. This makes it a great place to stop for a bit. One of the signs here did surprise me a bit, as it noted that some organizations have permits to solicit at welcome centers and rest areas. We didn't encounter that on this visit, but it is good knowing this. Overall, the Okaloosa County Rest Area for I-10 East is very nice. There is something for everyone when it comes to taking a break, using the restroom, or even just taking in some of the sights or walking the stretch your legs trail. If your travels take you this way, this rest area is worth stopping in for a short bit.

Just your typical Florida rest stop oh, so I did like the little benches that almost appeared like little bus stops by the parking spaces. As I said, this is typical Florida rest area where it has the usual vending machines, ample space to walk your pet, few picnic tables and rest rooms. The rest area is relatively clean and it is a good stop before hitting Pensacola. I would definitely recommend to stop here.
