At first, I thought it was going to be like other empanadas that I've tried which have a crispy shell however these empanadas are similar in a way, but are very different in texture. These empanadas are a bit softer on the outside and have a denser inside filling which include potatoes and beef and it was quite delicious. I thought I could eat both of them, but after one I was full. I will definitely be back to the restaurant since I'm always in that area and it's literally five minutes from where I live. Pass the "Dead End" sign and you'll see Jalapeño de Fuego across the street. This small house used to be Celene's Deli back in the day, then the deli changed ownership before the current owners took over. This is a family owned business and local to me so I was happy to give it a try. The new owners have done a good job of slowly renovating this structure over time. The first time I visited this restaurant it still maintained some of the older appearance including a rather scary looking gate in front and a pretty old paint job. However, during my most recent visit I was happy to see they have really cleaned it up, repainted and there's even a cheerful sandwich board outside welcoming you in. Inside they have changed the space so there are now proper tables and seats (whereas before there was only window counter seating). There are still a few of the original window counter seats, but not as many as before. LCD screens overhead feature their menu and you order off to the right. The space is not huge, but it is comfortable and doesn't feel old or grungy in any way. That's welcome in a family owned business, some of which get a bit worn out over time. The couple that owns this spot are really nice and cheerful. I appreciate their smiles every time I visit. Here's what I had during my most recent visit: TACOS DE POLLO (Chicken Tacos) Four tacos come in one order with a soft shell, chicken bits and vegetables. Pieces of lime are provided if you want a bit of tartness on your tacos. They provide both a green (mild) and red (spicy) sauce to go with it. If you wish, they also have a version of a chili oil sauce which is very tasty and a bit different in flavor than the Asian varieties. If you really dig the chili oil they sell them in jars. This wasn't the best taco I've ever had, but it was darn good and I enjoyed it. QUESADILLAS DE POLLO (Chicken) I know, hardly adventurous but I was trying to steer away from red meat for health reasons. The quesadilla was great. Good amount of chicken and veg inside with a nice layer of cheese on top. Interestingly they precut the quesadilla into four pieces and then package them with some guacamole and a tiny spoon to scoop it! Nice touch. I'm really glad I have such an eatery in my neighborhood. Good food, a family business, friendly service and a nice atmosphere. All factors that make it more than worth a visit!
