A note from one of the staff or owner. Which we did call before going there and there was no answer. His response to me says a lot about this place. Beware! He responded again and basically said shoulda made an appointment days in advance cause they're always busy and booked out. So although they say they accept walk ins, I'll take it that they don't take walk ins based on what he said to me. Continues to throw tantrums and lol over a 1 star review when all he should do is take accountability and do better. Maybe a voicemail that day set up saying you guys would be closed that specific day or hey maybe having "barbershop outings" after your business hours not to inconvenience customers. Needed a haircut badly... my regular barber has been on vacation for a month. So... decided to just go to the mall close to home... I don't make a fuss about hair, it'll grow back in a month anyway. Anyhow, after work, I headed to Kamakana, Google Maps failed me, had to call to find out where they were actually located. Finally found the place, receptionist was very nice by the way... walked in and was seated in less than 2 minutes. Myles was the young man tasked to cut my hair. Very polite and upbeat personality. Asked me how I wanted it cut, I told him flat top and he went to work. Historically, I've pretty much had my hair cut by the same person for 40 years or so... the reason being is because no one can really cut a flat top. It's either rounded or ends up like a crew cut. I can do that by myself with a flowbee, I think lol. Anyhow, Myles didn't seemed rushed, he took his time, and did a really nice job cutting my hair. I think all the "extra" stuff is ok, but next time, I'll pass on the gel and spray. It's a nice touch, but not needed for this old guy. Like I said to Myles about the final result... "What do you kids say nowadays??? This cut is FIRE!" I'll continue to go to my regular barber because it costs a lot less... but if I ever need to get my haircut in a pinch, I will ask for Myles. read more

Quality. Vibe. I just wanted to give a shout out to Landon at the Kapolei location. My son's barber cancelled last minute on a busy weekend of banquets and proms so finding an available barber as such short notice was close to impossible! My son was so depressed and so upset. He cried all day. Then a friend told me to try this shop. I booked it for anybody with an opening. My son was so nervous that it wouldn't turn out the way he envisioned. When we walked in, we immediately loved the local vibes of Hawaiian and R&B music! Place was pretty packed! Our appt was at 6:30pm and Landon had my son in the seat at 6:28pm ready to roll. I let them conversate and when I came back with a cinnamon roll in case things didn't turn out right. Bruh. He was beyond stoked! Landon made sure my son walked out happy, clean, and FRESH! Went in for haircut and it was my first time here. Barbers name was Richard, haircut was not what I wanted at all and he only spent 20 minutes cutting my hair. Half that time he was on the phone talking while cutting my hair and i thought that was super unprofessional. Seemed like a cool person but I had a terrible experience and haircut was $47 not including tip for something I hated.. will never go back. 20 minutes of half effort for $47 is ridiculous brah. Partly my fault for not being more specific, and he did say he wanted to get it to how I like, but the effort just wasn't there I felt. Update: received a call the next day from Richard. He apologized for our interaction, and explained the situation behind the phone call. Also apologized for the way the haircut came out and wanted to make amends by offering a free cut to fix it. I was very upset yesterday, however I truly respect him reaching out to me after reading this review and trying to make this right. People like this are hard to come by in life. Someone who is good and honest with their craft. If I could give zero stars I would! I decided to come here because my son was wanting a haircut and his normal barber is always booked up. Upon going into dakine barbershop I read the walk in policy and everything on the door and I figure it's empty I can get my sons hair cut. The girls initially pretended like they didn't see me and my son walk in. Than greeted me and asked if I had an appointment I told them no I wanted to see if I could walk in. The girl handed me a clipboard and said put your name and number and we'll call you. I figure it'll only take 1hour to 1hr and 30mins yes at the most before they call me to come back. This was around 5pm today. I'm writing this review .... it's now 9pm and No one called me to come back to cut my sons hair. I will never go to this barbershop again. What a joke. And a waste of my time. The pricing in here was pricey as well but I said what the heck anything for my son. It's worth the price. So I literally waited for a call that's never came. Just awesome! Definitely an awesome location to get a haircut. We had passed it a bunch of times on our shopping trips and finally walked in for a haircut. The front desk staff was so friendly and got us right in at the same time. The staff is really attentive and detail oriented. They are great with suggestions and the time we spent in the shop seemed so chill. They had the football game on (I don't know a single thing about football) but it definitely creates fun banter and conversation amongst the staff. I was really impressed with my barber and I love my new haircut. The line up on my facial hair is probably some of the best I've ever had from a barber. The barbers were always late, had rated R movies playing in their "kid friendly" shop, and filthy dirty. We were referred to Jayce by a family friend and we are very happy! Customer service is THEE WORST. I walked in at opening on a Sunday but they said the wait would be about 1hr 45min so i put my kids name down and did some shopping. We couldn't wait bc we had somewhere to be so I went back and made an appointment for the following day, Monday at 4pm. The next day we arrive at the barbershop 10-15min before our appointment so we check in. Immediately I'm informed that our barber is just finishing up a client, cool. Then 4pm comes and he still is "finishing up". Although I don't say anything, the receptionist comes up to me and says he's finishing up and she apologizes because she took that client as a walk in because she felt bad for them. BAD?! New to Hawaii and was going here every week for about a 6 weeks. I was being cut by the guy in the back MYLES and the last time I went when it came time to pay he told the cashier to charge me a extra $10 then walked off. I asked the lady why am I been charged $10 extra and she said she didn't know. I politely ask her to tell him can he come here to explain. Understand I've been coming here and pay the $20 for a beard trim. He's says oh it's because when I cut your hair I'm going over the the 15 minutes to do a beard so I have to charge you.. Huh? That's never been spoken to me before since going there. He said I already explained your making a seen and I have other people I have to help and told the cashier to not charge me and walked off. I already have him a $7 tip and I told the cashier here take the extra $10 as it wasn't about the money but the principle. I go to my phone and in the website it shows beard cut is $20 for 30 Minutes. So he lied and tried to charge me more felt embarrassed and walked off smh. I spoke to the owner who cuts hair there and and all she said was he should have told you earlier and your correct it's 30 minutes for beard not 15 minutes like he tried to say.
