Nice to be welcomed by the owner/host with a big handshake and thank you for coming to our restaurant! Full Italian menu with fresh pasta, seafood and meat options. Very small indoor seating area with outdoor tables as well. Service was friendly and prompt. Waiter asked us when we would like our entries fired as to no rush through our appetizers and wine. This is a comfort restaurant, it not about turning over as many tables as possible. Food was all good and clearly freshly made. Owner could not have been more pleasant. We found this after reading other yelp review reviews. Upon entering, we were greeted by a man who shook our hands and said welcome. We knew that that was the start of a really good experience. My friend ordered ravioli and I asked for special pasta, which is garlic and lemon. Wowed wasn't the word the food was outstanding completely top-notch only to be met with equal and parallel service. After we were done with our dinner, we noticed the man that shook our hand, was sitting outside eating. I think him for greeting us when we went and told him I knew it would be a good experience because we were greeted. We sat and talked for 15 minutes with him. This family owned and run restaurant never disappoints, each meal is spectacular. While there are too many favorite dishes to name, we promise that you will be wowed by the veal, chicken, and seafood dishes. Excellent service in this little place! Well-prepared food made with quality ingredients and beautifully presented in perfect portions. Linen tablecloths and napkins were beautifully pressed with real roses in vases on the tables which made a fabulous presentation. Entire dining room was clean and orderly and pleasant. Albeit the place is very small and can only seat about 40 people max. Italy has many different regions which affect how food is made. These folks have strong Sicilian influence with many seafood choices as well as meats. My piping hot minestrone soup was chock full of flavor and many vegetables! I'm used to having beans in my soup, but here they used potatoes. It was very good. I wish some fresh, hot bread was provided, but was not. I ordered the linguine with scallops and mushrooms and asparagus. Wonderfully cooked and seasoned with barely enough sauce (more would have been better) I was rather disappointed that it lacked scallops. It's like one single scallop was cut into six slices and spread through the noodles. The mushrooms were fabulous, but really overwhelmed any scallop flavor. Overall, it was a very good dish. I recommend it as a good dining choice. Minor improvements would make this restaurant absolutely stellar!! read more

This was our best meal in London. Our meals were delicious and not very expensive. We went on a busy Saturday night and somehow got a table. Great service. The ambience of the restaurant feels like you're at someone's house. The tables are close together and the service is brusque. It's a couple that works there--the wife is hostess and the husband is waiter. He obviously takes great pride in his food, and will make pointed suggestions: "You don't want cheese with that, do you? Cheese doesn't go with seafood!" Of course, it's all in good fun and he would *probably* have given me cheese if I really wanted :) For starters, we got bruschetta which took me right back to Italy. The baguette is fresh and lightly toasted and the tomatoes are well dressed with olive oil and other seasoning. The homemade pasta is amazing, and I would especially recommend one of the seafood ones. For dessert, we tried both the tiramisu and cheesecake. I really enjoyed the crust on the cheesecake (my favorite part of any cheesecake!) and the mascarpone layer of the tiramisu was whipped into an almost foam. read more

My neighbor, who recently visited London, RAVED about Da Mario. It was touted as one of princess Diana's favorite Italian restaurant. So, on a recent visit to London, I made a reservation for dinner for me with 3 friends (the reservation required a£10 per person credit card charge). We arrived at our reservation on time. I hadn't seen one of my friends, who traveled from southern England, in years.... So we were catching up, not realizing we were on a 2 hour time limit. The waiter reminded us we needed to order.... So we did. About 1/2 hour before our 2 hour time limit was about to expire, we were strongly reminded to finish our meal. At the stroke of our 2 hour time limit, as I finished settling the bill, we again were strongly reminded to end our evening because we were keeping people who were waiting for our table , WAITING . The meal was just OK.... It didn't merit to acclaim.... And certainly when I return to London, will not be dining there again. I felt very unwelcome & unappreciated. For I am royalty when I go out for dinner and should be treated that way! It did not live up to proper British hospitality. read more

My husband and I were walking around exploring the city. We decided we were hungry for Italian food. This was the closest restaurant. We didn't make reservations but the staff was super lovely and fit us in. The food was so delicious. I wish I took pictures of what we ordered. Weirdest out of body experience ever: Walking into Da-Mario, being seated by the waiter/host, and realising it's the same guy who was working at Franco Manca two days earlier. In any event, aside from doing double-takes all night at our waiter, this is a solid restaurant serving simple, reasonably priced home-style Italian food. Da Mario is one of these rare gems in Central London - an unpretentious cheap eat with great authentic Italian food. The focus is on simplicity - the menus are traditional Italian served in dishes that are roughly the same size as the food (a rarity these days). A meal with wine and desert will set you back around £20. The waiters are all authentic Italian, and when the inadvertent touch of Italian chaos sets in, things are resolved with a smile and a lot of loud talking, which never fails to put a smile on my face. Would highly recommend it for those who like a cheap, simple and most importantly delicious meal. This is a truly authentic Italian resto with a friendly, homey feel. I eat here often and have always found the staff friendly if sometimes a bit brusque, which I put down to the Italian 'let's get on with it' bit. Last night, in fact, I had the tagliatelli with carrots and chicken, and it was really terrific. Their mozzarella starter wrapped in bacon was ok; I prefer their cold starters like their bruschetta. Friendly, fast service and excellent pasta. I especially love the penne al'arabbiata, which is rich, spicy and flavourful. I have tried many times to replicate that beautiful sauce at home without success! I used to eat here 2-3 times a month, and the quality of both the service and the pasta was always consistently good. Since I moved away from London I've missed this lovely place, and I always make sure to visit when I'm back in London on business. read more
