Get there early if you want a seat or pay extra for the small VIP section (which also has it's own bar area), plus a lot of Queens enter from this vantagepoint. Drinks weren't as expensive as I thought they would be, and luckily for me (the nominated driver) they had a good selection of non alcoholic options, including cocktails and beers, as well as juices n sodas. Staff were friendly and professional, bouncers fair and bar staff friendly and quick. Free parking in the evening. Da Playground Maui really sets the tone the moment you walk in. The place is colorful, organized, and gives off such a welcoming energy. You can feel right away that it's a safe and inclusive space, definitely LGBTQ+ friendly from the start. The bartenders greet you with a smile and a big aloha super attentive and warm. Drinks are on point too! The Margarita is a home run, poured heavy (if that's your style, you'll love it). The Lemon Drop is smooth and refreshing, almost too easy to drink because you can barely taste the alcohol so it's dangerous in the best way. Their branding logo with the rainbow lip bite is powerful. Everything about this place feels intentional, fun and inviting. The show itself was perfect. The way the performers engage with the crowd was amazing and pure talent from the heart. The outfits are bold, creative and absolutely stunning, adding to the power of the show. The crowd is incredible, going absolutely wild, screaming and of course letting out those Cheehoos that lift the energy even higher. This has to be the longest review I've ever written, but it's worth it. A place and experience like this deserves every word. Atmosphere was cool, but if you're a person of color, especially black wouldn't recommend bartender serves white people before Black people even if you were at the bar first and begging for there attention I really didn't appreciate it. I had a very disappointing experience at this club in Maui and would not recommend it, especially for Black people and other people of color. I was treated unfairly and ignored while others were served before me. A tall white man with brown hair behind the bar looked directly at me and chose to serve white customers who had just walked up after me. I was the only Black person at the bar, and it was clear I was being overlooked. Earlier, a white woman with blonde hair (with dark roots showing) had helped me when I ordered a shot, but when I later tried to get her attention the same way others were, she responded disrespectfully and told me she would not help me. This was blatant racism, and it left me feeling disrespected and unwelcome. I will not be returning, and I would caution other people of color when considering this place.i thought Ohana meant family but I guess that's not the case at this establishment. read more

My husband and i bought tickets for 2 champagne bottles totaling $168 and at the door they turned us away because we allegedly didn't purchase general admission tickets. And are saying its because of our "attitude " at the door. we followed all of their directions. We got in line and showed our tickets and was immediately told it was sold out and now all of a sudden its our attitude. staff and management were extremely rude for no reason. General admission is only $30 each and there is 2 of us and they still turned us away even though we have already paid $168 and still would not let us in. 0/10 do not recommend. read more

I appreciate places like Da Playground Maui! Came here on a Friday Night. There is lots of parking at the Maui Ocean Center parking lot. Cover was pricey at $20 but totally understandable to help cover the cost of the venue, dj's, workers etc. There is wide selection of drinks on the menu at an affordable price. The area is spacious with seating at the bar and a table fronting the dance area. I didnt try the food but maybe next time I will. Overall, I enjoyed my time here and would come again. read more

Came here to get a midday sip while out running errands. It was about 1pm so the place was empty. We order a couple of drinks, got some free chips and salsa (with yelp check in) and listened to some music. Pros: The music was really good. They played alot of mash ups between hip hop and rock. Also, they have free arcade games like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. Lastly, the bartender was super nice and told us how this place has live music on the weekends. So i'll definitely be back for that since I love live music. Cons: The free chips and salsa that we got with check-in were pretty bland. We didnt really finish them. I also tried a spicy salmon hand roll (same sentiments) The drinks were a short pour. I got a vodka martini and my glass wasnt even full. Typically my martini's are spilling over. This music venue has been around for a few years delivering a new entertainment spot for central Maui. However, this past weekend was my first time. The bouncer and door staff were surprisingly friendly. Easy to pay and enter with Apple Pay. The layout of the space is great with tables seating and plenty S.R.O. Ample dance floor to get down. Plenty of Airflow to keep patrons cool. Bar staff was super cool and friendly. Smiles all around with quick service. The only thing i would suggest is that they mop the floors once in a while. Great vibe, but bar is very sneaky. While one bar tender was able to serve cups of water, another said they only sold bottled water ($2!). In addition to charging for water, they automatically added an 18% gratuity fee when I ordered 12 shots at "last call". So like a dummy I didn't check because earlier in the night, when I ordered 13 shots, there was no gratuity fee added. It would have totally been ok if she verbally told me it was added, and I wouldn't have added tip on top of that. Mind you these shots cost $10! I never usually keep my receipts, but so glad I did. Always the best music on island...once dancing is "open" again it will be crazy hard to get in as so many shows it's hard to get in as it stands. We came to Maui for the second time and wanted to live like the locals for a few days. DaPlayground was a great time. Good live music and drinks. The bartender was great and even though it was packed , each side of the bar had a designated bar tender which was nice because getting drinks was very easy. After not attending musical events for almost 2 years due to Covid it was a pleasure to find a new place in Maalaea with live music! The venue is in Maalaea just past the Pacific Whale Foundation store. Lots of free parking available. Da Playground is a large space with tables for 2, 4, 5 or bar seating. The staff is very attentive and accommodating. My main complaint is that the chairs aren't very comfortable ( especially if you are a "larger" person) but the staff got me another chair that was a little more comfortable. The food menu is so-so--just nothing that was very exciting, but hey, this is a bar! I had the turkey panini one night and the chicken apple sausage the second night. Both were good, but not over the top. Draft beer (Maui Brewing Company) is $6 which is a great price for Maui! The venue has a variety of musical guests-something for everyone. I thought the sound system was a little echoey, maybe because it is a large warehouse type space, But, I'm hoping that this place makes it because we need a good music venue on Maui! read more
