We were a group of 7 people and paid nearly $3000 for all of us to be "VIP", which included premium alcohol, priority boarding and roof top seating. Upon arrival we boarded with everyone else and headed to the top deck. The wind was awful so as you might imagine, it was not enjoyable. I wish they would have cancelled. We didn't cruise, we went to a harbor for shelter from the wind and hooked up to a mooring. The wind was so fierce that our group went below to eat where the staff was preparing the food. The food was okay. Not at all worth the price and don't fall for the lobster up charge of $70... it wasn't worth it. The crew was great. The drinks were readily poured, which was appreciated. With that said, the entire group agreed it wasn't worth the money and we wish they would have canceled due to wind. read more

1 star. I paid almost $1000 for 3 people for what was advertised as a luxury sunset catamaran cruise and that was just general admission, not even VIP. Unfortunately, the weather conditions were so windy that almost everyone had to move inside, and there weren't enough protected tables for guests. My mother, boyfriend, and I ended up eating our "luxury" dinner standing at the bar inside. My Mother hardly touched her meal as she got tired of standing. For the price point, I would have much rather the company rescheduled us or at least offered an alternative experience if conditions were going to make the cruise this unenjoyable. There was nothing luxurious about this experience other than the price tag. The one bright spot was the photographer girl working that evening. She was genuinely wonderful and honestly made the trip for us. She was kind, professional, and the best part of the experience. read more

We had originally booked a different sunset cruise, but that company cancelled our cruise twice (once due to not enough people and once due to weather). It was down to our last night in Maui, so we started frantically looking for another company to see if they were going out that night. We called Alii Nui, and they said they were still planning to go, so we immediately reserved a spot. We took a Lyft to the dock area. I will say their location was a little hard to find based on where we go dropped off. You have to go around to the opposite side, so give yourself a little extra time. It started sprinkling just as we were getting on the boat, but luckily there is a covered area down the stairs that everyone could fit under. They were getting everyone drinks at the bar already. Before taking off, they shared with us that the water was a little rough, and if we easily get sick, they could rebook you for another day. They were feeling confident about the weather, but also warned that if the rain got worse, they might not take the boat out. Well...the captain's instinct was right. There was just a small rain cell right over us, and a few minutes out from the dock, we were past it. The crew immediately started getting all the seating dried off and getting the snacks prepared. They were all amazing! They kept everyone safe and dry and even went around wiping glasses/sunglasses off for everyone. The snacks - jackfruit and pork sliders, along with several yummy dips were the perfect amount to fill us up. The drink selection at the bar was great as well. I figured it would be really cheap well type options, but I was wrong. Good craft beers and wines, as well as lots of good cocktail options. Not long into the ride, the captain spotted whales. We were at the very beginning of whale season, so there weren't as many out yet; however, he kept his eyes peeled, and we got to see a great display with several whales out. I will say this sunset cruise was a little pricier than the others we looked at, but we had the best time. There were a variety of age groups, but I don't feel like anyone felt out of place. Good energy and music without being crazy. Everything was top notch, and I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a sunset cruise in Maui. We had the best time on our Sunset Dinner Cruise aboard the Alii Nui Sailing Charter in August 2026. The Signature cocktails they advertised were outstanding. They even walked around and took orders and brought your drinks to you. Customer service on our cruise was over the top, not only were our drinks served to us, but the Captain and crew all walked around the decking talking to everyone, they brought me a napkin when I inquired about one, and even came around to clean everyone's sunglasses. The crew was very personable and the weather was amazing. Also, the appetizers and barbecue sandwiches were delicious. They even had vegetarian. I have been on many cruises, but this one was the best by far. They do not overbook so there was plenty of seating and room for everyone to move around. I highly recommend it. read more

Not only were we late getting back to the dock, but we also didn't get to partake in as many delicious drinks and snacks because we were distracted by WHALES COMING UP TO US WITHIN 5 FEET FOR OVER AN HOUR! However we were well compensated by all of Taylor's (photographer) awesome underwater pictures of the curious whales. They were so docile and genuinely curious about us and the boat. Probably the best catamaran company on the island. We did the Turtles and Tacos tour and we loved it. Staff were really great and there was even a photographer on board that took pictures of us in the water and on the boat. You pay a single price for all photos she took and it was very reasonably priced. They served chips and salsa right away, good chips but the salsa quality could have been improved, came from a jar. Tacos were darn good and the cocktails poured freely. We saw lots of turtles and fish even through it was pretty windy and the water was a bit murky. 10/10 would recommend. read more

Awesome experience from start to finish. The four of us, me, my wife, and 2 sons, went on the 5-hour Molokini Crater snorkeling trip with Aliʻi Nui and had an absolute blast. The entire experience was beginner-friendly, very safe, and extremely well run. The snorkeling site itself was amazing. My sons and I had snorkeled in the Caribbean, Bali, and other parts of Hawaii, and Molokini checked almost all the boxes for local fish sightings. Clear water, vibrant marine life, and great conditions. What really stood out was how well they catered to my wife, who is a beginner snorkeler. The crew took great care of her, made sure she felt comfortable and safe, and kept a close eye on beginner snorkelers throughout the trip. That made a huge difference for us. Exceeded expectations! A really great captain and crew took care of us during the trip. We went on the turtles and tacos excursion through NCL. The Alii Nui catamaran was a gorgeous craft. Immaculately cared for and clean. We boarded and settled in to our spot for the day, threw our stuff down and grabbed drinks from the open bar. Basically just alternating between margaritas with Grand Mariner floaters and Mai Tais all day. We snorkeled when we got to the off shore reef. The flippers and snorkel provided were all in good repair and sanitary. Didn't see any turtles, but managed to see some cool fish through some very cloudy water. After about 45 minutes we headed back, but not before stopping to see a couple humpback whales swimming nearby. The taco bar was really good with both chicken and vegetarian options. Mango salsa, sour cream, shredded cheese, hot sauces, white rice - all the stuff you would want on a taco bar! Super friendly and professional staff. Throw in for a cash tip at the end. Take this trip. It was a fun half a day on the water in gorgeous Maui. read more

The crew was amazing, headed up by the charming captain Josh, who made sure we didn't miss any whales and sailed so smoothly despite a pretty wavy ocean. We spent about two hours on the water whale watching on this catamaran, Alii Kai. Overall, the experience was just... okay. The drinks were okay, the service was okay, and the boat itself was okay. Nothing was particularly bad, but nothing really stood out either. The food was the most disappointing part--pretty subpar, and there were essentially no vegetarian options other than potato chips. The crew also wasn't especially welcoming or engaging. It felt more like they were simply at work and we happened to be on board, rather than creating a warm or fun atmosphere for guests. All in all, it wasn't a negative experience, but it wasn't a particularly positive one either--it was just fine. If I go whale watching again, I would probably try a different company. read more

My wife and I were in Hawaii for the first time and celebrating our 15 year anniversary. We decided on the sunset dinner cruise for our final night there and we couldn't have made a better choice! She was initially hesitant, but it turned out to be her favorite part of the entire trip! The crew was excellent and accommodating! Took the Molokini snorkeling charter on the Alii Kai after many years of snorkeling adventures on their sister boat, Alii Nui! As always, it was spectacular! Amazing boat and crew, top notch service and food! Great locations and, of course, awesome snorkeling! Lots of choices for snorkeling in Maui, but in my opinion, there's only one choice, Alii Kai and Alii Nui! Also, we took the Royal Sunset Dinner Sail a few days later and it was amazing! Captain Jordan and her almost-all-female crew were not only warm and cheerful but also incredibly hard-working and skilled--raising sails and serving with seamless ease. Super nice/friendly staff and they had us seeing humpback whales within 30 minutes of leaving Maalaea Harbor! The staff for this whale tour is fantastic and probably provided the best service we had on any excursion while in Maui. They offered a great full breakfast buffet as part of the morning excursion (eggs, sausage, banana bread, juices - and a full bar). Staff was all warm and friendly, they gave great information about the whale life cycle and migratory patterns, and why Maui is a great place for the mothers and young whales to hang out before migrating. They even offer to take photos for you and offer to clean your sunglasses so you get the best view of the whales while on board, amazing!!! read more

We just had the most amazing time on the Alii Nui. We booked the Tacos and Turtles midday trip. The rains the previous week prevented us from snorkeling but Captain Josh and his crew were able to convert our trip into a whale watching excursion. We saw several pods of whales. The captain brought us close, but not too close, to the magnificent beasts. The boat trip was the highlight of our trip. read more

This may be a wonderful experience for a lot of folks. This was not the case for us. We are in our late 30s and early 40s. There was one couple our age or younger and seemed to be having the same amount of fun as us. Pros: friendly captain and crew, good drinks that flow freely, smooth ride. Cons for us: seemed to be geared toward an older crowd; most on board were 60-75. The older crowd seemed to have poor etiquette with blocking stairs, spilling drinks thinking they're the main character. My husband and I were standing on the railing and missed the first appetizer. They did give us one while waiting at the bar as an afterthought. The food was underwhelming. We anchored by the restaurant highway which was unfortunate. Ultimately, wish we would have spent this amount on a nice dinner at a seaside restaurant. read more

We went on the whale watching tour from 1 to 3 PM. It was a great experience. Maximum of 60 guests on a new boat that just got in December 2024. There were free alcohol (beer, seltzer and wine) and light apps (sliders, fruits). You can pay for transportation when you purchase tour tickets online which is $9.95 per person roundtrip where a van picks you up at your hotel. Cheaper than an Uber. Would recommend! read more
