Been to a few luau's and this one seemed was the most elevated and authentic experience. You're greeted with a fresh lei and personally escorted to the bar for the first of as many mai tai's as you'd like. The performances were culturally focused and I left learning a few things about the history of luaus and the influence of Polynesian heritage in Hawaii's formation. Performers were all talented and entertaining, but you won't get a fire-knife guy or an emcee who's cracking jokes. If you're looking for a minstrel show for tourists, this ain't it. The 4 course-menu was tastefully prepared and presented. Our server explained each of the dishes and I got the sense that everything was locally sourced within a few mile radius. The service was outstanding. Before dinner, you'll get the typical roast pig unearthing. And there were a few other stations that were interesting - Hawaiian bowling, hula demonstration, live band, etc. And of course, you're right on the waterfront so you can watch the sun set and have a beautiful view while you sip the aforementioned unlimited mai tai's. This luau has been going strong for 40 years, and I am so glad they survived the Lahaina fires. Pros: - Authentically Hawaiian, not just a mashup of Pacific Islander countries and cultures. - AYCE(?). You can definitely get seconds, but not sure beyond that. Keep in mind there are a lot of courses, so you don't want to stuff yourself and miss something later. - AYCD. I had so many lava flows the waitress was giving me grief (in a joking and welcomed way). - Entertaining performance. There's a story through the whole show and multiple acts, sorta like how Cirque du Soleil does it. It's more culturally educational than flashy. Even my hula-nerd dining companion was impressed. - Locally based, so your money goes into the community and not some hotel conglomerate 2000+ miles away. - Food was plentiful (even before asking for more), with more hits than misses. Not the best food I've had on Maui, but nowhere near the worst. - The view and locale, duh. - All the staff were great, with plenty of aloha. Cons: - Yeah, it's pricey. The way I look at it though is you're paying for the food, the show, AND supporting the local community to keep its rich culture and history alive as well as helping them in a small way recover from the tragic fires. Plus tips are already included. - Wish there was a non-alcoholic price option so the non-drinkers aren't subsidizing the drinkers. - The pre-dinner walk around time was a bit short. You don't really have enough time to stop by every display/event/demo. I know they time the dinner & show with sunset, but maybe open up a little earlier? Etc: - Most people are kinda dressed up (aloha shirts, flowy dresses), but shorts and tees weren't too uncommon. Our experience at Old Lahaina was pretty exceptional. Once we arrived, we were welcomed with flower leis and escorted to our seats, where our server Tyson greeted us. Tyson was one of the highlights of the night--very soft-spoken, very patient, and super sweet. Our group of nine was seated at one table (even though I had emailed in advance and was told they could not accommodate more than eight at one table), which was a pleasant surprise. , The second highlight was the food. You can tell the food here is high-quality rather than typical buffet-style fare. And even though it wasn't buffet style, there was plenty of food, and if you wanted more, you could simply ask, and they would bring more of whatever you wanted and liked. Keep in mind it is also an open bar, so take that as you will. The third highlight, of course, was the performance. All the performers seemed to love what they did and brought such great energy and style. Each one also showcased their personality through their performances. I will say there are no fire dancers here, but that is because it is not part of their culture, to my understanding. One thing I would note is that our group of nine was between the ages of 23 and 26, and we were definitely the youngest ones there. The most incredible experience, with amazing performances and delicious food! The parking lot is tiny, so I recommend getting there early to find a spot. When you enter, you're immediately greeted and giving a beautiful lei. Since we got there early, we were able to walk around and enjoy the various activities they had prepared before the food started coming out. We also checked out the spectacular view and grand venue. There are plenty of welcome drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic. It started sprinkling and then raining during the luau, but it did not detract from the experience! The service was incredible. All of the employees were so friendly and kept checking in with us to make sure we were good on drinks and food. And the food was delicious! I really enjoyed the appetizers: the guava butter and sweet potato chips were phenomenal. The assortment of proteins for the entree was super impressive. The drinks were sweet, fruity, and delicious! Mind blowing, it's been 29 years (December 1997) since I last visited the old Lahaina Luau, it may have changed locations since that time but it was just as incredible. The exceptional service from initial booking, to changing our reservations due to the weather, the staff was incredible. The presentation of culture and traditions are so heartfelt, regardless of how many nights a week the same routine is put on, you feel like it's the first time just for you and your family. We sat stage side low, on Matt's at the ground level (if you have bad knees it's not for the weak). Our server Brysen was amazing, he was charming and oh so accommodating. Everyone we interacted with was incredible. To he able to celebrate your heritage and traditions as part of your job is a blessing. The dancers, singers, drummers and the kitchen staff were delightful. It was truly amazing that after so many years the Old Lahaina Luau continues to hold on to the integrity that built their brand. We loved this Lu'au! The atmosphere was beautiful, the service was amazing, the food was tasty, the drinks were great, and the performance was wonderful! It started off with us entering the parking lot with a friendly staff member showing us where to park. We were then greeted with a lei and a drink. Before dinner we walked around and saw some demonstrations, bought crafts from locals, and saw the pig ceremony. The food was served family style and in between courses there were dances. The stage was done nicely so everyone could see no matter where you sat. It started to rain on us and they quickly came around with ponchos for everyone. Old Lahaina Luau opened up its door in 1986 and since then has grown from humble beginnings and a place barely scraping by to a full-capacity packed house seven days a week. If you didn't know, a luau is a traditional Hawaiian feast that combines a multi-course meal along with celebratory music and dancing. The luau will cost you a pretty penny: ~$230 per adult (13 years and older), $140.31 per child (3-12 years), and free for infants (0-2 years). There is limited parking on-site but there is overflow parking across the street at the Cannery. We received complimentary mai tais on arrival and took pictures during sunset and played some of their games. Then we got to see the unearthing of the pig where they pulled it from an underground oven as it cooked. Once we got back to our seats we started the meal service. We were served a four course meal with a ton of food! We had complimentary bread that went great with the guava butter. Our starter course consisted of hummus, fresh chips, haupia, and kūlolo; my favorite was the hummus. The traditional Hawaiian course consisted of kalua pork, lau lau (pork wrapped in leaves), lomi lomi salmon, ahi poke, and pohole salad; my favorites were the kalua pork and the ahi poke. The main course consisted of flat iron steak, fresh caught fish, pineapple huli chicken, leafy greens, and sweet potato; my favorites were the steak and chicken. Lastly, we ended the meal with a pineapple sponge cake dessert. Bonus that there were unlimited drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) throughout the night! Throughout the meal and during the last hour of the luau there were a variety of performances with lots of storytelling. The shows highlighted the history and culture of Hawaii and you can really tell the performers were proud of where they came from. I had never been to a luau before but had heard of some friends not having the best experience at previous ones. We still decided to come and chose this one because they serve the food at your table instead of buffet-style. This luau has 200 employees serving the 340 daily guests over the course of the three hours. It was a well-oiled machine and a big task to put this production on every night. Overall this was definitely a unique experience I'm glad I got to check out. This luau is more expensive than others in the area and even in Hawaii but they're not as nice as this one. This was a very cool experience and seemed much more authentic and curated than the luau we saw at the Sheraton, for instance. They gave you so much food and the dancing and costumes were amazing. The view at sunset is gorgeous and it was really fun to see the pig get dug out of the charcoal oven in the ground before the luau began. I haven't been to a thousand luaus, but this one was definitely nice. The servers were attentive and descriptive about the food and kept asking if we wanted more. We really enjoyed the Old Lāhainā Lu'au for our last night in Maui. They had some amazing service from the beginning to the end of the night. The venue was incredibly well manicured with great activities from prior to the dinner and onto the end. We were first greeted by a host who let us know which path to take towards our seats. We were quickly greeted by someone else who then gave us some leis and tasty mai tais. Afterwards, my husband and I walked round to look at the different Hawaiian activities and vendors they had. Many folks took photos next to the ocean as the sun began to set. We enjoyed our dinner that was served by Nichell and La'a. Nichell was super knowledgeable and brought amazing energy to the table! Great cultural experience! We did not get any professional photos as there were so many people and I did wish I could've seen the unearthing of the pig more; for the same reason. But the workers were kind and the family we were seated with were great company. This was our first outing for the honeymoon and we really enjoyed the show. The only downside was the food portions were not enough and we ended leaving a bit early because we were starving. So I would keep that in mind. I've been to a luau before but the Old Lahaina Luau was truly an amazing and unforgettable experience. It felt so intimate and I really felt immersed in the Hawaiian culture from start to finish. The space itself is absolutely beautiful & the whole evening was thoughtfully done! From the moment you check in, they welcome you with a lei, a mai tai and walk you to your table. We had the front tables where you sit criss-cross style on the ground, which gave us such a close and personal view of the main stage. (I wouldn't recommend this seating option if you're uncomfortable without back support for a long period, but for us it was wonderful.) Before the show begins, you can walk around the grounds, take in the atmosphere & even watch the unearthing of the pig that will be served for dinner. It was such a unique and memorable touch. They also have photographers taking photos that you can purchase for $20 which we did as a nice keepsake. Dinner was a delicious 4-course meal and everything we tried was fantastic. Our waiter was AMAZING!!! He was so personable and attentive which made the experience even better. The show itself was top tier: beautifully done, engaging and so full of heart. I especially loved the special dance they did for couples celebrating something; being on our honeymoon, that moment was extra special for us. We got to dance under the moonlight and it was so romantic. At the end of the night, they even send you home with banana bread (It was delicious!!! I wish I had grabbed more!) My only tip: parking can be scarce. We showed up 45 minutes early and just managed to get a spot, so I'd recommend either arriving early or taking an Uber to make things stress free. We've been going here since I was a kid -- I loved it then for all the activities (unearthing the pig, learning Hawaiian dances or games) and now I love it for the performances and vegan food options!! And the people. Everyone who works there is awesome. Our server team was David and Mia and they kept us fed and watered and drinking (open bar! lol). They helped out with my 11-month old nephew and gave us our banana bread take-home snack to go when we had to leave early. I'm vegan and another person is vegetarian and they were super helpful in getting us our separate food and explaining what it all was. I was very impressed! Loved the watermelon poke and the banana dessert was so big and decadent. The music and dance and storytelling is as always so impressive and beautiful. Just an excellent time. Old lahina luau has their operation well oiled. Arrival, seating and timed meal delivery is very organized. Never had to ask for anything. Our server was really on it an overflowing with kindness. That just made it great by itself. Drinks are good, the entrees excellent and plentiful. What pushed it over the top was when watching the pig being removed from the Imu (oven) there were some nuggets of pork skin still remaining. I was at the back standing next to the chef and pointed it out that they are leaving some of the best part behind. He assured me they wouldn't. While seated dining on all the goodness he actually found me In the crowd and handed me a plate saying he found a good piece for us. My wife fought me for it! Good food, good service, good show! This is the best luau I've been to in terms of the food and drinks. Your dedicated server brings out your four courses right to your table. No need to get up and make a line. You are welcome to ask for seconds but believe me you will leave FULL. Also pricing includes an open bar so you are able to order as you please! They have a great drink menu and anything else that tickles your fancy. Stars of the show: taro buns with honey guava butter. The buns so soft and that butter! Our experience before was way better than this time. We went here again to celebrate my SIL and BIL 10 year wedding anniversary. Maui is their favorite vacation spot in which they visit every year. And they go to this Luau every time. But our experience for a special occasion is not too good. We were greeted by Nichelle with leis but as a group of 7 she forgot the person at the end of our line. We needed to let her know that there was still another person but she was still holding one lei. She was only talking to the people in the front, explaining things to them. I believed she asked if anybody wants drinks as we were passing by the bar. The question didn't get to the people at the back until we just passed the bar as the walking distance from the entrance to the bar was short. When we notified her that some people wanted drinks. She got upset stating that we already passed the bar. She wasn't really friendly to us, with an attitude when talking. And does seems like she wanted to be there. We were seated at the very back, far from the stage, close to the bathroom. We didn't get to enjoy the show as we see everyone that gets up, blocks the view from the show. We also got the traffic from people using the bathroom and staff from the kitchen. The only person that was really friendly to us was Uncle. He said he has been working there for years and his Grandson is actually working with him in who we met at the end of the night. read more

the best luau experience i have had! my friends and i went to splurged on this luau because it was one of the best in maui (~$200 each)! i would recommend getting there early to get parking in the closer lot, but there were guides to another nearby lot. we were welcomed with a personal "host/hostess", their signature mai tais (choice of alcoholic or non-alcoholic), and leis :) the venue is beautiful for picture taking. decor is very green, and it's right by the water. they had vendors selling handmade crafts, people playing on the drums, and a mini "show" of the slow cooked pig. staff was friendly and welcoming. we ate slower than everyone around us, so service told us they were coming less frequently because they didn't want to take away from the luau show. i am vegan, and they were able to accommodate a whole luau menu for me! the take-home banana bread that they hand off is also vegan. only giving a 4 out of 5 stars instead of 5 out of 5, because i dont know if i love the food, but i really think its personal preference. overall, lots of food and drinks, great service, and an amazing show. i would definitely recommend while in maui!!!!!! read more

The food was a huge spread 4 course meal given throughout the night at our seats. Each dish had Hawaiian heritage and tasted fresh. Ofcourse we had our favs but no complaints about any dish. We wanted to experience Luau in Maui island and found this place recommended by a lot of people online. We had to join the waitlist and finally got in for a time slot 6 days later. Upon arrival, we were greeted with Leis and cocktails. The venue was large and had an open view of the beach. Dinner was at sunset time so it was beautiful! What came first was appetizers including veggie chips, taro cream, pudding, hummus etc. My favorite was the veggie chips. It included large pieces of deep fried taro and sweet potatoes. The chips were lightly salted and were a great snack. What came next was the show where they dug out an entire roast pig from Hawaiian underground oven. It was entertaining and educating! The main courses had salads, roasted pulled pork, steak, fish, and chicken. All the meats were super tender. My personal favorite was the pulled pork (roasted from the underground oven!). It was a little salty but paired well with poi. The dessert was a pineapple cake with real pineapple chunks in it. It was refreshing, but we were already pretty full at this time. The highlight of the Luau was the grand performance. It was fascinating to watch Hawaiian dance Hula so closeup with such a beautiful scenery. Don't come here for the food bc it's sub par not only for the price you pay $250 per person but I honestly would have preferred a subway sandwich for $7 than the vegetarian meal. Even the meat meal was terrible. Salty, dry, old, no flavor, just terrible taste. I never waste food but I packed it ALL up for the stray animals who might eat it bc they are hungry. The grounds are beautiful, the shows and music is wonderful, they have a photographer who takes your pic but it costs $20 and they print it already for you and bring it to your table so it's hard to refuse, the drinks come all night long and it's unlimited w the price. They serve you a LOT of food (both in variety and quantity) so I checked off a lot of my Hawaiian food bucket list in one meal. Once in a life time experience. We were lucky enough to come here when the kids were small and again recently. It was such a wonderful experience from start to finish. The weather and grounds were extremely beautiful. Check in was easy and quick. Riz greeted us with a lei and took us to get our first drink then walked us to our table. She was extremely charismatic and funny, definitely set a fun vibe for our family. We walked around and took pictures and watched the imu presentation. Once we sat we were served the many delicious courses but the Puaʻa Kālua was the most impressive item for me. Never had one that tasted this good! Seriously the best! Everything and I mean everything was made and presented well and the food tasted quality and authentic. CJ and Tasha were such great servers and took care of every need. My husband and I spent out honeymoon in Maui. We stayed for a week. We have always wanted to check out Old Lahaina Luau. We read great reviews about it and heard from locals to check it out. My husband reserved us seats in the floor. We wanted a front row experience to the show. Parking lot was small - so make sure you go EARLY!! My husband was lucky enough to find a spot and squeeze in haha. I saw people who weren't as lucky having to park in a parking lot near SAFEWAY. But the walk was not long. Majority of the people that came, wore Hawaiian dresses and shirts. A lot were celebrating anniversaries, wedding engagements, birthdays, etc. Good vibes everywhere. Majority were adults, but there were young people and kids as well. When you get there, you line up. The staff are friendly and will show you where to line up based on your reservations. The location itself, was beautiful. You're near the ocean and you get to see the sunset. And when my husband and I went, there was a breeze now and then. Weather felt nice. As you start to head closer inside, you are greeted by your host and a lei. You receive the option of what drink you would like (either alcoholic or non-alcoholic). The host also reminds you where bathrooms are. The layout of the seating (both on chairs and on floor) was nice and organized. Not too tight. Whoever made reservations (in his case, my husband), there is a card with your name on it, welcoming you. And there's a simple pamphlet giving you the history of the place. Definitely give it a look and read. If you reserved seating on the floor, your seat is a pillow. It's not hard and not too soft. In the middle. The grass or lawn where the seating is, is artificial grass. And it is clean that there were people already taking off their shoes. We were seated with other people there. I don't think I saw seating specifically for 1 couple. And that was fine...it encouraged us to talk and greet other people at the table. Our waiter or host came to the table and introduced himself and what his role is during the event. Very kind. Then took down orders of drinks. While food was being prepped. Everyone is welcome to walk around. There were different areas where you can participate in. My husband and I got to learn the names of the instruments that will be used during the show. We even got to hold and play them. We got to participate in a game and we received a free fake tribal-looking tattoo. My favorite was learning how to dance with the pu'ili, which was made of bamboo. And we even got to watch someone make POI, which we learned is very good with the Kalua pork because of how salty it can be for someone. A lot of people were fascinated with the ocean view and sunset, so there was a lot of us taking photos haha. There was a photographer there taking pictures - my husband and I decided to not wait in line to do it because we wanted to see other things. But I believed the pictures taken will be available for purchase? Food was presented and described to each table by out host. It was a la carte style. Portions were good. I saw some tables asked if they can have seconds because it was delicious. My husband and I loved EVERYTHING that was served. We cleaned every plate! haha. The drinks you can order are unlimited until the bar is closed. So me and my husband definitely took advantage of that. I mean, you paid your it...why not?! haha. One of the main reasons we went to a luau is not just for the food but for the show. And Old Lahaina Luau gave a wonderful show. I was blown away by how graceful they moved. I loved the costumes. During the show, you get a narrative as well. And there was an opportunity for all couples to stand up and dance while they sung and performed. Very romantic. Overall...I definitely recommend! Especially if you are figuring out what to do in MAUI. Yes, it may be pricey...but definitely worth it! And...you get a free banana bread to take home. This was my first Luau and it was definitely was a vibe. We came early and waited until 5:15 for them to let us in. The first 30 minutes we walked around to grab pictures with the beautiful ocean (the place is next to the shore so makes for great pictures.) They had a few games as well as some basic hula stuff. I think the star of this show was definitely the food. Course meal was BOMB and everything tasted delicious. It looks like a lot of food but it's not too bad, we finished all the food no problem. You get to try out maybe 10-15 different dishes which is pretty crazy. Definitely better tasting than the Luau that serve buffets. In terms of drinks, it didn't taste that water downed TBH, you can probably get turned if you wanted too. Now for the shows, it was okay. It's very historical but if you're expecting anything crazy like the fire dance then you'll be left disappointed. It's purely hula dancing and explaining alot of history of the past on the island. The performers were great though just it could be boring for some IMO. My thoughts? I overall enjoyed it and learned a lot. Was it worth? Hard to justify since most Luau are expensive but I feel I overall had a good time. (4/5 for worth) You will have to share a table with others unless you have a larger party. Food won't be shared besides for your party though which is good. We came to the luau on my second night in Maui and had a blast! While it might seem pricy at $230 per person, considering the quality and quantity of the food PLUS a very entertaining and educational show - it's actually really reasonable! Before the show starts, you can get drinks and walk around the property which is stunning. There were a few different vendors with home made goods, and I wish we had gotten there earlier so we had more time to explore. The crowd then gathers around as they unveil the roasted pig from underground - so cool! There is SO much food and with unlimited drinks, you can really get full fast! My absolute favorite was the fresh ahi poke, which was really simply done. I ate fresh ahi almost every day of the trip and this was possibly the best. I felt like some of the pork was a little salty, but still delicious. I LOVED the flat iron steak but the catch of the day was meh. The hula chicken was also really yummy. I would have loved to have had the Haupia for dessert rather than as an appetizer but that's just my preference. Two of those in our party were vegetarians and they had customized the various courses to give them similar dishes that were vegetarian instead. Service was delightful - it's clear that tbey are very selective about their team, and train them very well. Each server is assigned to only a few tables, so he or she has lots of time to engage if you choose to. The show was excellent and had a lot of interesting historical details that I had never learned. We chuckled about how as soon as Hawaii had a female leader, the US came in and decided to take over. Hawaiian history is incredibly interesting and learning about it at a luau is a unique immersive experience that is well worth your evening! read more

This is a wonderful luau to experience. I started to go to this luau over 20 years ago. First attended when I got married and now my husband and I have the pleasure of brining our 15 year old to this luau. First and foremost the service is wonderful! Our server Kona took such great care of us and I hope that we see her again when we come back. We were greeted with a lei of beautiful fresh orchids along with a drink when walking in. They invite you to walk the grounds take pictures with a photographer and join activities. Then you can watch the ceremony of the pig coming out of the imu. Then the food is served. You definitely won't leave hungry. The food is so flavorful and cooked to the right temperature. The kalua pork, lau lau pork, chicken, fish, taro and so much more was never ending. Midway through dinner dancers appeared sporadically until they bring out the big show. Overall an experience that we will return to each and every time we come back to Maui. read more

We were here 26 years ago during our honeymoon and was one of our must do when we returned to Maui. This time we brought our 2 grown kids with us so they can experience this once in a lifetime dinner. The place is well run joint. From parking to greeting to pre meal activities to presentation of meals and show itself are all top notch experience (if you weren't here 26years ago). I recall unearthing the pig was little different, show had fire tumbler, and show was different then. Price was little cheaper too ( we paid over $900 for family of 4 this time around). Ambiance 5 stars Service 5 stars Food 3-4 stars (both tuna and salmon were off...believe me we eat tuna just about everyday while we were in Maui) Show 4 stars (ladies were aging...hope locals continue to grow and recruit Hula tradition) Price 3-4 starts (this was by far the most expensive dinner and we eat at Nobu other night and was half the cost). Coming out to Maui for the first time vacationing and had heard of this place from my now wife when she came over 20 years ago when she was 15. She said she remembered how great of an experience she had so we booked it for our trip! Let me say from the moment you arrived to this place you felt welcomed. Everything was so well organized and they welcome every family with a lai and walk you to your table. Our host for the Evening was Randy and he took care of us the entire night and genuinely made you feel like Family! I was pleasantly surprised with the food because I was under the impression you would pick what you would like to eat but you actually get served everything on their menu which also comes with an unlimited open bar! Definitely get your money's worth! Coming from a restaurant background all I could think about was the execution of the plating and presentation of the food. The freshness and quality of the food for so many people at once! Kudos to the BOH/FOH team and whoever is expoing the food! Amazing job! This is hands down the best Luau on the island. Yes it is more expensive, but definitely worth it. The food is great and the table service is excellent. None of the buffet style that you get at other Luaus, and everyone has assigned seating, so no rushing to get a good seat, all the seats are good. And take some cash to but something from the local craftsman before the show starts. read more
