I explained that my hair was very short, but she assured me it would not be a problem and that she could braid my hair and add the crochet. Upon arriving at her shop and sitting in her chair, she increased the price to $150. I had brought two bags of hair, but she used too much, requiring me to purchase more. The next day, I noticed my hair was already coming undone. When I called her, she claimed my hair was too short to braid, which was why it was coming down. I pointed out that she had seen my hair beforehand and questioned why she hadn't told me initially instead of doing a poor job and taking my money. When I asked for repairs, she insisted on charging the full $150 again, which I found unfair. I repeatedly asked for another stylist who had braided my hair previously, but she refused to let me speak with her, later claiming the stylist was traveling for two weeks. I wish the shop would be upfront if they cannot do crochet or braid certain hair types. Additionally, regular braiders should know their fees. This felt deceptive, as the price was increased after quoting a lower one over the phone. I had read reviews beforehand, some of which described the same issue I experienced, so I take partial responsibility. Please read the reviews and avoid this shop to prevent becoming the next victim of such practices.

She was delighted that I was giving up the "creamy crack" for my natural tresses, and honestly, so was I. She was very encouraging, and gave me pointers on how to maintain my natural hair and keep it healthy. I didn't realize how much of a difference the maintenance is on natural hair as opposed to relaxed hair. Huge difference! In addition to the "big chop," I've had my hair braided by Ife on several occasions. I usually keep braids in for about 3 weeks, and I can honestly say that three weeks later, they were still looking fresh. What I like about Ife braiding my hair is that the braids don't hurt. Her technique is awesome. Her shop is located inside Phenix Salons, which consists of private shops. She stack her client's so you will not have to wait for hours at a time to be serviced. She is very good about allowing enough time to service each client before the next client is scheduled. My maximum wait time has only been about 10 minutes. I've waited much longer at other shops, so 10 minutes was nothing to me. The salon is the same strip with Home Depot, so parking is a breeze. It's located right off of I-10W and Fry Road. You can't miss it.
