This joint, I discovered from a friend who had spent a year or so studying in Seoul. During that time when she brought me here, I had just also arrived from South Korea and happen to be hankering for the lettuce rolls I'd enjoyed during the short trip.
Albeit a bit on the gritty side, the place was reminiscent of the Korean Barbecue joints in the Korean capital. There used to be felt-tipped pen signatures on the walls, patrons leaving their marks of approval. (Though a recent renovation had cleared this out, making way for a cleaner look.) The food serving is generous - we got the unlimited pork barbecue. They use locally-sourced ingredients, meaning the taste and the seasoning remains faithful, the texture and the tenderness of the meat do not. But the usual shebang that make the meal enjoyable are there: the tabletop grilling action, the condiments, the ritualistic way you assemble your rolls, the many many pickles and appetizers and the soup - the chilli paste soup!
I introduced Daewang to my family and in spite the fact that my folks always complain how the establishment refuses to turn the airconditioning on sometimes, I find myself being dragged here at least once every two months. read more
