Six months later I noticed that they had been taking out payments of $25.00 per month for the past six months. When I called to inquire about this, the owner wasn't even available to take my call but I was told she would call me back the next day. I was trying to deal with Wells Fargo bank about the charge and could not put this off. When I told the person taking the call, I would turn this charge into the bank for fraud, she called me back in 10 minutes. As I was talking to her, I hadn't yet realized that they had been deducting these payments for 6 months. The owner pulled out some contract written up by a technician named Ethan. Ethan supposedly had written out the contract in such detail, as to cover this business's maintenance contracts, that it was confusing to my husband who is elderly and he didn't even realize what he was signing. The owner said she had been calling us for months to send a tech out here to check on our system but yet never left a voicemail, email nor did she send a follow letter. I did leave a local review as to which she responded defending the company's policies but again she did not follow up with a response by email or letter. She did however, respond online where people can see reviews but cannot see emails or correspondence. After I finally saw what she posted 8 weeks later, which was to defend her company making themselves out to be the victim I decided to pull the local review only because CS is a small town that tends to side with local businesses and so I decided to review her on a more diverse website. If you read other local reviews you will see both positive and negative reviews, so I will let you decide if you want to do business with them. I have not only dealt with businesses in Tx but in two other states I have lived in. I have also been doing business with small business owners in CS for 20 years and never has this happened nor did we find ourselves locked into a contract where my husband did not realize what he was signing. I do take responsibility for not checking my credit card charges more thoroughly or I could have stopped $200 worth of charges that we did pay. I decided only to persue this to protect those less fortunate so as not to sign something they did not understand.

Would not use them if they were the last company available. Poor customer service and they are…read morehappy to take your money. Make sure you read the contract on a service agreement before you sign.

They came on Friday to give a second opinion when a competitor quoted me a $14k complete replacement because my compressor was "dead" and would no longer function because of its age. The tech on Friday correctly diagnosed high superheat, and noted that the compressor was operating within expectations at off-design conditions. A root cause was not identified, but we had good guidance to work from and survive the weekend. On Monday, they came back out to follow up on the poor performance that persisted through the weekend. Despite leading them with the wrong suggested diagnosis, the tech evaluated the problem thoroughly and quickly found the root cause. The A/C was back to normal by Tuesday and will last several more years. Both times, the techs were inquisitive, knowledgeable, and honest. Great service and great values make this company worth your business.

They sent a guy out, and he called me with his diagnosis. He proposed to install a fancy thermostat with sensors in each upstairs room. I let him completely finish. Then I said that the last time I was there, I noticed cold air flowing downstairs when only the upstairs thermostat was on. And then the guy said they could fix that by installing new dampers. I said okay and we forgot about the fancy thermostat plan. It must have been all that was needed, because my tenants never complained again. SO - I'm happy that they competently fixed the problem, but I can't give 5 stars when they missed the real problem when diagnosing.

Wow, these reviews really swing in one direction or the other, huh? Well, I've personally had…read moremultiple good experiences with them over the past 18 months or so. I was visiting my family last year when their A/C went out- of course when it passed 100 degrees. Honestly, I think it happened Thursday afternoon, but between the temp and humidity and spending a good part of the day outside doing yard work, I think we all just thought we were individually having a difficult time cooling down. It wasn't until late that night that it became obvious, so it was early Friday morning when I called. My parents told me they had used Barker's several times in the past and have always been very happy with them, so I looked up their number and called them ASAP. When they answered I explained that I knew this was a busy time of year for them but I was very worried about my father's health considering it broke 100 the day before. They took me very seriously and said they could have someone out between 10am and 12pm- better news than I could have hoped for! Roughly 30 minutes later, Boomer called me and told me he could be there in 15 minutes unless it was better for him to wait until 10am. I gladly told him to come right over. When he arrived I asked him to wait a moment while I finished securing the animals and got my father masked up before he came in to check the thermostat. He immediately offered to mask up as well, which was kind and more than I would have expected. He worked quickly, efficiently and thoroughly. He took our situation into consideration and really helped us out. The service fee was $119 and worth every penny. Several months later I found out the A/C was out again, this time while I was out of town. I decided to pay the annual membership fee over the phone when scheduling a visit. It includes free quarterly inspections, waived service fees and a percentage off work that has to be done. I think it ended up being around $185. It definitely worked out as the 26 year old unit had to be replaced. I also get texts when they are going out there and it's been really convenient. They've worked around my mother's schedule for the quarterly inspections and have been responsive when she needs someone to come out and help her. I really feel they are taking care of my mother and it's been worth renewing the membership fee again. I've had no issues with any of the techs that have come out or anyone in the office when I call. I recommend!

Be warned about slippery warranty coverage. My mother is older and was having issues with her HVAC…read more We bought a new and quite expensive HVAC from Barker's some two years ago. She also pays annually for the maintenance plan that supposedly comes with addition coverage benefits. My mom is on a very limited income and is still paying off the HVAC in monthly payments. One of the reasons we decided to go with a new HVAC rather than a repair was because we would be covered by the warranty and not have to spend any additional money for at least a number of years. Well, it turns out that's not the case. When they came out to check the HVAC yesterday, they determined that the compressor wasn't working correctly. It's working at too high a pressure and is putting a strain on our system. He recommended that we buy an adapter kit for $319 that would help the compressor work better and without it the compressor could go out, trigger breakers, and out a continued strain on the HVAC system. We asked about the warranty and basically they're blaming the manufacturer saying that "they" won't cover the replacement of the compressor unless it completely stops working all together, despite the fact that it is not working within the warranties coverage period. Barker's claims that they only cover the labor warranty and that there is nothing they can do. When I then asked if they were charging labor to install the adapter to fix the problem, they of course conceded that they are. This feels like a workaround for the warranty that we thought we purchased and away for Barker's to make additional money even though the HVAC they installed isn't working correctly. Basically, our HVAC is not working correctly but we need to spend more money to compensate for the gaps in warranty. A quick skim through the reviews shows a number of other reviews with warranty frustrations.
