Why are so many businesses in Dodge City so dirty? I like DQ but this one is a far cry from what I'm used to. Also the drinks are supposed to go thru the straw... we aren't supposed to spoon them out. Kids are confused as to what they gotta do in such a small kitchen... maybe remodel this? read more

Stopping in for a little bit of an ice cream to cool down after a very spicy lunch nearby! This dairy queen is conveniently located off of Wyatt Earp Blvd. in Dodge City, Kansas. Offering all the Dairy Queen standards we were pleasantly greeted and quickly served. The restaurant itself is pretty basic, but probably in a little need of a sprucing up after a long pandemic. We needed to get from Omaha to Durango with a trailer, and while I might have tried to make the trip when I was in my 20s, I genuinely needed a night's rest in the middle of that trip attempted in my 40s. Dodge City was roughly halfway, and the suggestion that maybe there was some touristy Wyatt Earp stuff to distract us from the endless visual stimulation of black eyed Susans (those are those yellow flowers, Mildred) was enough to see us book a motel here. Well, the Earp stuff was a flop, and the motel had tragic flaws. After a lackluster Applebee's dinner, we were ready to never speak of this stop again, but on a Hail Mary pass in double OT, we tried to salvage the whole thing with ice cream. I can't walk into a DQ without picturing Parker Posey in Waiting for Guffman. A cursory inspection of the actual staff at this location demonstrated that I did not need to let my imagination wander very far from that portrayal. Nice small town kids, doing their part to fight Dodge City's considerable July heat. The family ordered a mix of cones and Blizzards; each was as good as they always are. No one behind the counter hurt themselves lifting any extra brownie bits or chocolate to put in our ice cream, but it wasn't "Chipotle-light" scoops either. You know what I'm talking about. Just as I was about to write off the whole thing, I looked across the way, and spotted this cute older couple sitting in a booth, enjoying a little ice cream on a hot summer day. And something about it melted my heart like so much ice cream in the sun, realizing that indeed, it's the simpler things that are the most profound. And suddenly, the glass-half-empty Applebee's burger slowly digesting in my gut, the tourist trap bait and switch Wyatt Earp museum operation, and the motel TV that turned off every 90 seconds for no apparent reason suddenly didn't seem like such a big deal. Instead, this time with my wife and children--The latter of which are not getting any younger, and soon enough will no longer join my bride and me on these cross country road trips--suddenly meant much more than anything else. Thank you, Dodge city Dairy Queen, for helping me find a little perspective in the most unassuming of places. As my counselor in high school used to say: if you wanna see God, don't look up. Look around. And while you're looking, have a little ice cream. read more

while traveling back to our home in Okla. we needed a quick bite to tide us over for the rest of our journey. I was expecting the same standards as our local DQ. I was shocked when the burger was cheaply made with absolutely no veggies, even on my husband's double decker. Mustard, catsup and pickles..Gross! Plus, we not only didn't get crispy fry's like we requested but they were stale. All DQ's are not created equal. read more

We walked in to a horrible sewer type smell and went to the bathroom (which smelled much better than the restaurant) and I was grateful it was clean. It went down hill after that. Everyone seemed new to their job, I had a guy walk up to the register to take my order, he didn't even acknowledge me, even as I smiled and started giving him my order, he just grabbed another girl who then started to take my order but decided someone else should so grabbed another guy. We got our food, missing a piece of chicken but didn't want to stay any longer than necessary so didn't go up for it as the line had become very long (we ate a late lunch at 2 on a Sunday, so we were shocked when a big crowd came in). We planned to grab blizzards on the way out as one came with one of our meals. I had a free mini blizzard coupon and the $0.50 off coupon from a kids meal bag. My total for all 4 mini's was $12 and change. He had to ask the manager to take the $.50 off, when she did my total went up to $16. I didn't even try to fight it. Just paid so I could leave this high school ran nightmare! I waited 10 minutes for 5 blizzards. Never coming back! Go to Freddy's if you are in this town ppl! read more

Good food and quick service. I noticed they had a rather large staff working and several employees seemed to be new to their jobs. I was impressed by their obvious desire to serve customers quickly and ring items up correctly. However I felt like maybe they lacked effective management or training since everyone seemed a bit confused and rushed even at 2 pm when we grabbed a late lunch. The dining room badly needed attention as every table was covered in crumbs. Still, for fast food I felt like we received a good value in our meal and they truly seemed to have good intentions. read more

Blizzards are great the work assigning seems to be off. Too many of the servers were working drive thru customers and neglecting the dine in customers. read more
