Not that people do, but if ever asked about the best breakfast burrito I ever had, the answer is easily the one from here. I was in Dodge City in June, on my way to Colorado. I Googled the "best breakfast in Dodge City" and this place came up. A mile away from my hotel, it was an easy choice. I saw the burrito on the menu, and the friendly host explained that it wasn't a breakfast burrito per se, but that they could make it with eggs and other suitable ingredients. It took a few minutes--not a problem--but came out soon enough, packaged to go as requested. I got in my car ready to hit the road, but wanted a bite or two while it was still hot. My oh my, was this perfect. Not too tight, but filled up nicely. I took a few bites and swear I wanted to eat the whole thing right there, but used restraint. I drove maybe an hour or so west and saw a rest area, where I inhaled the rest of it. So, so good! I don't have breakfast burritos often, but I've certainly tried a few since, and nothing has come close. I was annoyed for not grabbing a pic of it for the Gram. Now I'm doubly annoyed for not having one to share here... This was from a 12-day trip through five states with a number of fine meals, but that burrito is my No. 1 recommendation of all the places I visited. read more

When you come in the door you go to the counter to order and pay. They give you a basket of chips & salsa. We ordered queso cheese. The salsas & queso cheese were both too runny but good flavor. My husband order a steak burrito plate. The burrito did not have rice as a filler all steak. He really liked it. My pork and steak tacos were good. We are from Texas and we're really wanting Mexican food. Yelp gave them good reviews, so we wanted to give them a try. We walked in to place a to-go order. Restaurant was very clean. Counter worker was nice and helped to assist us placing our order. We ordered the carne asada plate and two super burritos, along with chips and salsa. We were suggested this place by a random man at the store. We are here for work and wanted to find the best Mexican place in town. This was where the man said it would be. Arriving, there was a pretty good line, but it moved at a good pace. I ordered a torta (added beans to it) and my husband ordered the taco plate with a michelada. Torta was a smaller sized one but it was FILLED. Wonderful. I didn't love it but it was definitely good and appealing. And the red salsa they give you with the chips was super watery and odd. But i did use that for my torta. Then next, my husband's tacos were pretty dry and boring for lack of better words. We are from Houston, TX so maybe we are a little too used to the REAL good stuff lol! But anyways he didn't even finish them. He did however really enjoy his michelada. The staff here is incredibly nice and willing to do whatever to improve your dining experience. I had my doubts about Mexican food in Kansas City but they were disregarded quickly. Chips and Salsa came with the meal which is very classy and a +1 in my book. The #1 Combo of the Taco and Burrito was great. The taco was delicious, served on a corn tortilla, and the salsa packed some heat and flavor. The burrito was stuffed with steak, onions, and cilantro which made it tasty. Order a side of salsa to add to the burrito and you'll be in heaven. In order to combat the spiciness, I decided to order the Horchata. Let me tell you, this was the best Horchata that I have EVER had in my life. I am from Phoenix, AZ, and tried a variety/multitude of Horchatas but this tops them all. The new menu is so good I always enjoy going there and trying new things and it's always pretty clean inside.

Ordered food and the cashier was nice. Waited and waited then became alarmed when the people that arrived then ordered after us received their food. We ordered two items and they had 4 at their table. When asked they explained waiting on one of my two items. When receiving my order I had to remind them we ordered a bottle of coke but he seems to think this wasn't true and proceeded to look for a receipt then ask the cashier if this was true. Reluctantly handed me the coke. Never included napkins or forks with the to go order. Ordered flautas and it's pictured with cream tomatoes and avocado but when I opened the container the rice was covered with lettuce and tomatoes and only cream and sauce was included in the little containers. They did not disappoint, this time I had the carnes platter and of course a large horchata! I arrived at Tacos Jalisco angry because I'd just paid $12 for flavorless, Whitey tacos at Vallarta. I was desperately yearning for some good Mexican food and silently pleading that the cook at Tacos Jalisco knew what they were doing. They do! The tacos were ....amazing. The toppings were onion, cilantro, lime and salsa. Not lettuce, cheddar cheese and a slice of tomato. The food was better at Tacos Jalisco. The service was friendlier. The toppings were tastier. The prices were lower. And there was some life in this place when Vallarta was a sad, vortex of vacantness. The real proof is that I had 2 bites each of 2 tacos at Vallarta then took them to go not sure I'd ever eat them. At Tacos Jalisco I got 3 tacos. I enthusiastically inhaled 2 of them and then realized I was full. I looked at the remaining taco, considered wrapping it up, but instead gobbled it down. Because it was so ....very tasty. read more

Tacos are one of my favorites, and considering I'm in Kansas, I must say these are quite good.

Food is great. Atmosphere is nice at times the music can be a little loud, but the food is terrific and fresh big Pluss.

The guacamole is super liquidy not sure where it comes from. The chips were really soggy and soft, not crunchy. The salsa with the chips is really strange. Like water and jalapeño juice mixed together or something. The quesadilla was mostly a mountain of molten cheese, and hardly any meat, and only eat a tiny bit of it had to dig the meat out. There were no other customers around. It's not a very popular place. read more

Currently sitting here with more than half of my food still on my plate. Not very pleased with the outcome of this meal. Service was okay, I was ordering my food and the cashier continues to have a conversation with the man behind me and trying to take my order at the same time. Red flag number one. I asked for sweet tea they said they didn't have it so I asked for a coke instead. The cashier proceeded to ask me twice what I wanted to drink after I had already told her. Overall cleanliness of the place 6/10. Paid $18 for a flautas plate that came with bag guacamole sauce and bag sour cream. Also a squeeze of mayo, which I never had served with the flautas plate. I don't know what the beans are but they taste expired. The chips were borderline stale with watery salsa. Only thing good on my plate was the rice and coke but my stomach is already turned over, I can't finish it. . Not once did a server come check on me to see if I needed anything. 1/10 honestly overpriced and just plain disgusting. I'm from Texas where we don't come across food like this often. Ok, we've got a landmark review on this one. I thought I would mention that because it's not everyday that I find a place that sets the new standard. So I pulled into Dodge City starving! And after arguing with the hotel I had checked into last night, and leaving to find another (also a landmark review), I wasn't in the best of moods. Anyone who has read my reviews know I have two favorite Mexican resteraunts that have held that standing for quite some time. El Jardin in Commerce City, Colorado (because of their world beating green chili), and Birrieria Diaz in Bethany, Oklahoma because of, well, everything. I'm gonna say this right now, after one meal- a meal I was disappointed about getting mind you-, Tacos Jalisco surpassed both of them. That's right, this is my new favorite Mexican food. It's close mind you, but it tops the list. I ordered the number 8, which is a grilled, shredded chicken plate that comes with beans and rice. And a huge tortilla to make your own tacos with. The chicken had cilantro, lime, onions. The tortilla was simply Devine. Yes, Devine. So damn good! And the chicken? OMG! Sooooo good. Savory, a little spice and wonderful! The beans were excellent too. I can honestly say, it was probably better than any ribeye I would have found and as good or better than any of my favorite taco and Mexican spots. Tacos Jalisco was terrific. I will be changing my route when I travel back home to include Taco Jalisco every single time I make the trip. read more

Ah... going to Dodge City, Kansas, a former wild frontier town of the Old West, but now a town that celebrates it's rich history in a more refined way. History aside, Dodge City hosts a large Hispanic population, rich culture, and great Mexican restaurants. Speaking of great Mexican restaurants, think Tacos Jalisco, in Dodge City. The menu is extensive and offers a wide array of all of your Mexican favorites. After checking out the menu for a couple of minutes, I stepped up to the counter and ordered #12, which just happened to be "7 Mares" soup. After placing, and paying for my order, I had a chance to wander past the condiment bar, which includes fresh lime, cut radishes and pickled vegetables. If I closed my eyes and went into a daze, I'd almost think that I'd been transported to Mexicali, Mexico, rather than being in Dodge City. "Caldo de Siete Mares," better known as "Seven Seas Soup," is a Mexican version of fish stew, and it's popular in Mexican coastal villages. Soup includes seafood such as shrimp, octopus, squid, crab, mussels and whatever else, and tomatoes, peppers and a savory broth. Oh yes! Such a delicious soup! The soup was amazing, the beer was cold, the chips and salsa... ditto amazing. I did find it a little interesting to find soda crackers... where were the corn tortillas? Tacos Jalisco has all of your bases in Dodge covered, including amazing food, super friendly service, comfortable dining and very reasonable prices. In Dodge City, KS, you don't have to take a trip to the Mexican State of Jalisco to enjoy outstanding Mexican food, as all you have to do is to pay a visit to Tacos Jalisco to enjoy some of the best Mexican cuisine that Dodge City has to offer. read more

So I must have been in a hyper-critical mood today. I was planning a lengthy 3 star review until I went to leave. That's when, as I was thinking about an appropriate tip to give, it hit me. I was getting out of the seat and the table hit me in my over-stuffed belly. My criticisms are mostly cosmetic. Like why can't I have a real knife and fork if I'm staying in to eat? And why do I have to listen to women screaming on that telenovela while I'm trying to stuff my face. But when I thought about the tip I realized that I would have happily paid 50% more for that meal, and there's no way that lines up with anything less than four stars. The taco was great! The burrito was good. The chips were good, but I suspect the would be great in non-covid times. The salsa was a little heavy on the cilantro for me, but it was still very good and I know some people LOVE their cilantro. All-in-all, I was disappointed that Gorditas was closed but this place did not disappoint me at all. read more

I had the flauntas - I asked for carnitas but was told they couldn't because they were already made. Tacos Jalisco is an undoubtedly authentic and upscaled taqueria that will leave you very satisfied IF you "get" the ordering concept and can assess the menu all at lightning speed upon entering through the door. My advice to a first timer is not to come here at a peak time. I went to dinner with a very large party and it was chaos. At Tacos Jalisco, you order at a counter from a menu that you cannot fully see until you are directly in front of the server taking your order. It's a big bright menu with pictures and small print up high on a wall stretching over a huge space like a carnival mural. I didn't get pictures because it was just nuts! First, there is an orderly grouping of tacos, tortas, burritos, etc. all on platters followed by a seafood and soup grouping, appetizers and then beverages and ala carte items. I found the whole process noisy, confusing and stressful as you try and find out what to do, what comes with the platter, and what the things in the pictures are. Speed reading and taking in the food art; you choose a presentation and then the type of meat - beef (unknown, I asked!), pork, chicken, etc. if it's from the first grouping. They give you a stand with a number and you find a seat. If you need specific seating, secure it before you order somehow, if they're busy, or it may not be available after ordering. We were 25 strong at 4 tables and it caused quite the stir. I had the grilled beef carne asada platter and my husband had the carnita taco and torta platter. There are complimentary thick chips and a thin watery vegetal picante salsa that is not for the faint of heart. It will hurt you. A condiment wagon has beautiful sliced radishes, a pickled Jalapeño, carrot, onion medley, sliced limes, and cilantro. I have to be honest and say I didn't like my little tiny strips of chewy grilled marinated beef or the gigantic chewy flour tortilla that came with it. I made a gigantic chewy unpleasantly jawbreaking but tasty taco and labored over 90% of it. The beans and rice were average. The guacamole was heavily diluted with onion and tomato. My husband was gloriously happy with his jet fuel inspired taco and torta platter and he munched deliriously on radishes and sucked down his entire bowl of salsa along with a plate of Jalapeños. Surprisingly they have oysters on the half shell here and mixed seafood soup, shrimp cocktail, beef soup and octopus. Under different circumstances, I might have been more adventurous. I have to mention the incredible carved and brightly painted Northern Mexico booths and chairs. They really jump out at out at you. I wish the servers had. Only one server had a command of English, it seemed, and the one who didn't became progressively more sullen as the place was hanging from the rafters busy on a Saturday night. Overwhelmed. I would guess. Tacos Jalisco is an interesting, vibrant authentic place, though, that deserves more than one visit. Our platters were $10.99 each and served on compartmentalized styrofoam plates with plastic utensils. I do wish they had plates!! read more

Interesting concept. Looks of a regular restaurant but setup of a fast food joint. You walk in and the menus are up front. So you have to order immediately and they give you a number before they bring it to your table like any sit down restaurant. Menu is huge and encompasses all types of protein from local beef to seafood. Drinks are by the bottle including water. I think personally it's a mistake and is costing the restaurant more money than serving drinks from a cup. It would be cheaper and more profitable if they did it traditionally. Once I make my order I can't add more to my experience without having to go up front and order again. I had the three tacos meal that included chips, salsa, guac, rice with veggie medley, lettuce, and beans. They hook you up quite a bit here. My friend ordered a burrito and it was 80% meat. Kinda regret not offering that. Anyways food is solid. Bathrooms could be better. The paper towels were empty after washing up. Odd considering the restaurant was almost empty during the lunch hour. I would come back because it's local food and the portions are great. But next time will be mindful to order everything I want. Also the bus lady with her large noisy trash bin with wheels was obnoxious top the experience. An absolute must stop if you are passing through Dodge City. A warning though: come hungry! The food here is absolutely amazing and comes in large portions. Each order comes with an order of chips and salsa. If you are a spicy salsa person, this is the salsa for you! Very spicy for my tastes but also super delicious!! The chips are warm corn chips and also very good with the salsa. For my meal I got the #1 which comes with a small soft shell taco and a very large burrito. You can pick the meat for both, I chose their beef. Along with the taco and burrito, you also get rice, beans with cheese and what they called a "mayo salad." I am not a fan of lettuce so I asked for them to leave that out and they replaced it with more rice. Here is my break down of each of the foods: Rice- Spectacular. Maybe my favorite part of the meal which is unusual for me as I don't normally like rice all that much. Guacamole-Also spectacular. I had it on a few of the chips that came with the salsa and it was easily some of the best salsa I've ever had. Beans- Very good. They had good texture to them and the cheese was a nice touch. They appeared to be white beans with the usual cheese on top you see at Mexican restaurants. Beef taco- Absolutely amazing. The meat was perfectly cooked. Overall, the taco had a bit of spice to it but not too much. Very enjoyable for sure. Beef burrito- Same concept as taco but in a burrito. It was very large and almost completely meat.
